Last time we came here for Buffalo soft serve and it was replaced by Jersey cow soft serve. I'm a sucker for soft serve so I had to come back to try this. It's better than Strauss. It's a lot thicker and creamier than the Strauss soft serve. I was impressed. I'm glad that they now serve the Jersey cow soft serve because the Buffalo one was pretty boring and too sweet. They no longer serve the Buffalo soft serve because the company was bought out and now they use the Buffalo milk for other items like cheese and no longer sell it for soft serve. Love this little market and if I move to Sausalito, I would be coming here quite often. And not just for the soft serve. They have a lot of very interesting items here. The items are all marked up a bit but otherwise good quality items and the food looks good. I've enjoyed their hot lunch here. All the prepare Foods look good too. I normally go across the street to Joinery for lunch then stroll down here for a soft serve. read more

Got this message from "Christopher B" blaming me for what i was charged by the store. I assume this person works at Drivers: "There is no way two tomatoes cost $19-20. Your herbal soda was likely $6. So you likely were inadvertently overcharged (it happens with some of the older ladies who do check out), and you should have brought it up right then. Who doesn't pay attention to what you're being charged? In any event, those tomatoes aren't 2# each. You should rethink your unfair review and take responsibility for your inattentiveness first." What a busy body. Anyway, no, i didn't know what i was charged until i left the store. As anyone can probably attest to, pretty often these days when being rung up, the checker doesn't say the total anymore - they just scan your items and tell you to tap. I really appreciate the selection at Driver's Market, but I've consistently had a very uncomfortable experience at the register. There is one regular cashier (Lauren) whose behavior makes a simple transaction feel like a confrontation. Between the heavy sighing, the eye-rolling, and the way items are handled quite roughly, it creates an incredibly tense and unwelcoming atmosphere. It's a bit of a deterrent when you feel like you have to check who is working before you decide to walk in. I've recently moved away, and while I'll miss the products, I won't miss the stress of checking out. A neighborhood spot should be a friendly experience from start to finish; hopefully, management can look into the service at the front. read more

Came here on a weekend and we were pleasantly surprised to find good food in Sausalito. We got the Nepali Gorkha chicken wrap, which was surprisingly very good, and then we also got the caprese panini, which was also pretty solid. The place is very cute. Came in for a quick snack and got a Cuban sandwich ($16). The bread was crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The sandwich had thin slices of pickle on it which was a nice contrast to the salty ham. We took a lap around the market and prices were pretty high. read more

My friends and I grabbed some soft serve from their exterior window on a Saturday afternoon. It wasn't busy at all. We were able to make our order through the online system. Shortly after ordering, our soft serve was at the pick up window. I got the swirl on a cone with sprinkles. It was delicious, and I would definitely come back. read more

I was born and raised in Sausalito so it has a special place in my heart. I've watched it change over the years as I came to visit my parents. Driver's Market encapsulates that Sausalito community vibe. Curated products, beautiful produce, local + unique finds and also just the basics. Running a small local business is hard work, but they make it seem like it's not work at all, more like a service to the community. I appreciate that the prices are high, but we're paying for the proximity and that special touch: the menu items at the deli (oh my, that cuban sandwich is bomb!) and the selection of items from bread to cheese and all of the wine, booze, beer and other canned delights! Plus the lil bits bowl of cheeses is such a fun way to taste test their amazing cheese selection. And, of course, the soft serve. But for me, it's the warm, personal service of the staff that stands out. Over the years, with visits to my parents I got to know some of the staff - not all by name, but that's on me - who were always warm and welcoming. My mother would put on her little backpack on Senior Tuesdays and do a weekly shop at Driver's. She would tell me stories of how they would hold her favorite nut milks and cashew yogurt for her and then pack it into her backpack for the trip back up the hill. And when she no longer could make the trips down the hill and I would stop at the market on the way home, it was those special staff members who would see the sadness on my face and ask me how I was doing, always making me feel better than when I had walked in. Her name I know - Lauren. And she always checks in on me when I go in. Now that my parents have passed, and I've moved back into my childhood home, I am lucky enough to call this my neighborhood market and feel like I'm a part of the community when they pack my bags safely for my walk up the hill. read more

I love Driver's Market. They have a cute little take out window where you can order ahead and pick up food from the deli. I should get regular food but I always order the Double 8 Dairy soft serve buffalo milk gelato in a sugar cone. ($5.50). So if you would like a lovely treat, go to Driver's for their soft serve! I have been a customer at Driver's Market for many years and, as a resident of Sausalito, I couldn't imagine it not being there as part of the community. No matter what time of day (breakfast-Dream Green Juice or Bagel. Lunch-Sun Trail Salad or Tuna Wrap. Dinner- fully prepped meal or just fresh veggies for cooking at home) I always go there first. But it's not just the convenience and the fresh food--it's the people. We purchased two sandwiches from Drivers Market and both were excellent. This is a very busy place at lunch time so order and take some time to shop the market offerings. We purchased some groceries and the sandwiches and the price was very reasonable. If you are hungry for a sandwich on fresh rolls, this is a spot to try. read more

It took a while to be ready though. Nonetheless, It was so delicious and the chipotle aioli really added to it. By mistake I picked up a bag that was actually not mine, and only discovered the error when I was back to my business on Bridgeway. Since I was not able to go back to their place to exchange the bag, one of the owners came himself to my place to do that. I do not know how many business would do this nowadays. Driver's Market is a pricey excursion but a great place to stock up on unique pantry items in a town where its hard to impress your tried-it-all foodie guests. This small, compact store offers a wonderfully curated, welcome and unique gourmet food selection for this part of Marin. Favorites for us include their tinned fish section featuring Fishwife, Patagonia, JOSE Gourmet and other Spanish and Portuguese tinned fishes, fresh and canned pickled items, a beyond your wildest dreams selection of unique jams, nut betters, teas and chocolates, unique gourmet popcorns, oils and vinegars and a small but mighty selection of bakery items and prepared salads. Postscript: One of my fancy jams (pear and ginger) had expired several months (exp. September 2022) before I grabbed it at Drivers. Wasn't until after I opened it and ate it for a week, that I noticed. Was disappointed by that, so definitely check. read more

Found this place on the way to a different deli today and I'm so glad we went in! They have a great selection of hot and cold sandwiches and salads. They also had a ton of cold drinks for purchase. Everything was reasonably priced and the staff was nice. Next time, I will check out the cheese section. It looked really good from across the store. They are off the beaten path which was a bonus. This is a nice spot, filled with lovely things. They've got quite the selection of gluten free, vegan, and specialty items. Before a Saturday picnic, I'll stop to pick up snacks and drinks. My friend and I were looking for an organic grocery store in Sausalito where we could grab lunch. Per recommendation of our friend, who is from the area, we drove into downtown Sausalito to check out Driver's Market. Driver's Market is a quarter of the size of a supermarket, but it has everything to satisfy your health-conscious needs. The place is pricey, but I think that's expected from these types of stores. The store has a good selection of vegan and gluten-free items. Many of the brands that Driver's carry are ones that I've seen at Sprouts or Whole Foods, but I also saw some import and local brands that were unique to Driver's. In addition to the organic food, the body/bath products are made with natural ingredients. I loved that there was a little healing section with smudges (i.e. sage, palo santo, cedar), incense, and specialty clearing sprays and blends. Driver's Market has a solid deli case. In this section of the store you can also get food made-to-order, including hot food items. My friend ordered Dal, which was a lentil puree with Indian Spices. It was delicious! I had the Kickin' Tofu wrap, and it was very good and tasted so fresh. The Kickin' Tofu was flavorful and had a spicy kick to it. As much as I'd want to give Driver's Market a 5 star, I'm deducting a point for its fly problem. When my friend and I were eating our food at the communal tables, I noticed a ton of flies flying around and especially over one table. read more

Just off the main street of Sausalito, I found a gourmet grocery store! Super exciting since I love discovering new foodie places. The shop has it down right. Hand sanitizer on a table by the door. The cashiers are plexiglass protected. The produce is beautiful and fresh. There's a front-facing section with all CHOCOLATE! There are brands of chocolate from Hungary (???), some Good Food Award winners and local brands such as Charles Chocolate (SF), Feve (SF) and others. I know this store is going to be trouble for my pocket book! ;) The tea & coffee aisle is mesmerizing to me. I'm into to tea at the moment. There are small artisan tea makers from SF I've never heard of. For sure CoVid19's SIP order is messing up my knowledge of the latest goodies on the market. The deli is fantastic. Grab-n-Go salad boxes, falafel...omg, the cheese refrig. As Californians we are so lucky! Our state has a bounty of everything life needs. There are locally made soaps (goat milk!), lotions, bath products including adorable tiny scrub brushes that are travel ready. Oh right. This is Marin & Sausalito is a posh town so why shouldn't there be a shop with refined, well-curated products? The Driver is pretty and a savvy shopper will revel in its environs. Get that wine that looks pretty in its bottle and will be mighty tasty too with all the food you buy here. read more

First time here. My review is based entirely upon the sandwiches. My daughter and I were on our way to the Fort Baker area, so we stopped in. I was looking forward to this place because of the many rave reviews for their sandwiches. We ordered two of the house specialty sandwiches with meat. One had turkey and they other had salami and something prosciutto like. We both liked the "sauces" and bread choices for the sandwiches. It was good a sandwich, but I would not go out of my way to get a sandwich here. I'm glad I finally got to try this place. Because of inflation and being in Sausalito, I'm not sure if this place is expensive. $12-ish dollars for a sandwich and $6 for a bottled drink. You make the call. read more

Small store but great selection! Background - I live in the East Bay, and was looking for a store that sold Macadamia Nut Butter. Instacart showed me that Driver's Market was the only place in the Bay Area that had it. So I thought I'd drive an hour to check it out. At first, I was disappointed by how small the store was. How much can they fit into such a small store? But then I looked around, and was VERY impressed by the selection! Lot's of great beer, high end groceries, and Macadamia Nut Butter! It reminded me a lot of a small Draeger's Market (but Draeger's doesn't have Macadamia Nut Butter). Most of the negative reviews about this place were of the delicatessen, so I decided to try that for myself. Unfortunately, they stop making fresh sandwiches after 4:00pm, and I got a pre-made Cuban that they warmed up for me. It was actually VERY good, but I didn't get to experience them making a fresh sandwich. Overall, I thought the place was fantastic for its size. read more

Extremely rude management. I used to come in Drivers Market all the time when I was a child and people there were so friendly and kind. When trying to speak with a manager they raised there voice at me and were very disrespectful. Everything here is over priced and the Deli doesn't have good food anymore, a real disappointment. I used to be so fond of this store too and now it's turned into an overrated business with rude staff and cheap overpriced product. I do not recommend..."Sausalito Gourmet Delicatessen" right across the street has much better priced goods that are even better than at Drivers Market, I highly recommend that store instead. Please PAY attention! Be aware of this establishment. My family and I were on our way out the door after purchasing our snack items when we were stopped by an employee. They said " you need to pay for those drinks!" when we in fact just got done paying and we were on our way out.. This needs to be addressed due to false accusations and these kind of situations should be directed in a more appropriate manner. We were paying customers but now we will reconsider our options.
