I know Rick and Denise very well. they are indeed left of center which is normal and balanced these days. somethings they have too many tasks at hand to give the person in a hurry that 100% but never from want or desire to fulfill your every need. when you hear about the Presidential elections and how tax hikes affect the small business man, well these are those people whom work their rears off to raise a great son nearing high school graduation with a moral compass set dead center on stand up and right on. as honest as the is long, they care for you as the person you are. their immediacy of service may suffer for a few moments, but slow down and don't hurry to go have a car wreck being flustered. you could be in Gary, Indiana or Jacksonville, Florida as an alternative? Is a switch worth it? NOT! never would be............. be as wonderful to them in return as they are to you and lap up the humanity that ekes out in volumes. they are only human, compassionate, and sometimes in the weeds sort of speak. but you'll never find two folks more committed to what they do for all whom come in their doors. Run by a couple. A somewhat ditzy couple. Drive up, don't drive through. The woman was lamenting that she totally forgot to buy an entire denomination of stamps, which was a laugh for me since I just wanted to send metered mail, but it would've been a major annoyance if I actually wanted to order stamps. It's a good location and dedicated to one thing -- mail -- but service is relatively slow for a place that emphasizes speed. read more

Went to mail a package today, and decided to stop by this place. Turns out it's a really cute and cozy family run operation. They actually check both UPS and USPS to see which one will give a cheaper rate for the package, that's pretty convenient. Best service anywhere. Better than a post office box, because I can also receive packages from Fedex, UPS, DHL and the rest. I never worry about packages getting swiped from my porch anymore. My address looks like a prestigious apartment number on Riverside Dr., unlike a similar service across town where my address was so complicated that many people got it wrong! I dropped off some Christmas packages to send to family on December 18th. They were incredibly unorganized and overwhelmed by so many customers and packages. I was concerned about how they were just putting packages all over the small space they have. Turns out my concerns were legitimate. One of my packages is still in "pre-shipment" on Christmas Day meaning it never left their store and is in Austin on Christmas Day. Also, another package is in transit and didn't make it by Christmas. So 2/3 of my packages aren't there on Christmas Day. Again, I dropped off my packages on December 18th. If you're gonna run a store that does shipments you should be ready for Christmas. read more

I have been with this company for well over 12 years. Rick and Denise are awesome people. They own the place. They will call me when I have a package. Rick has notarized all of my important documents. You will simply enjoy the face to face contact and know that they care about things that effect you. When I lost my job, Rick worked with me til I got back up on my feet. Lets see your local post office do that. I highly reccommend them if you get lots of packages and do not want to spend all of your time trying to track down your carrier or wait til it finally makes it back to the post office. read more

Really friendly service. I've always seen the same person working, and he likes to be on a first-name basis (which is hard for the ridiculous amount of customers going through everyday). This guy also notarizes...on Saturdays(!!!) which is really hard to find in Austin. If your motto is to keep Austin weird and support your local business, then this is where you should go for your postal needs. It's true that it is run by a couple and service may not be as fast as a Kinkos/FedEx, but these people work 10x harder than the high school brats rolling their eyes at Kinkos and it's just an overall very honest business. I used to think this place was amazing, easy and fast. I own a business and went there today to send a package. Normally I have a bunch of priority boxes from the post office. In this case I didn't have one. I already had my shipping label that I already paid for. The lady told me to grab an envelope so I did. I had to explain again that postage was already paid for since I do priority shipping and the label is already there. I said thank you and I was about to walk out and she asked if I paid for the envelope. I stated my apologies as I thought they were free and stood in line to pay. She felt bad so she said that her husband would find me a priority box in the back and she starts to rip open the package. I told her it was okay and I'll just pay and use the envelope. Her husband the owner comes back out starts SCREAMING at me and says "You have to pay for the envelope even if you don't use it" I'm not getting you a priority box, and if I do then you still need to pay for the envelope since it's been used" Not only was it used due to his WIFE, I was about to pay the 1 for it. Who cares. I could not believe he was screaming at me with another customer there and while I was paying for it. I thought that was insane. I took my things (and still paid for it) called him back as stated I'm reporting the company to the BBB. Not a good experience at all!!!! read more

Awesome small business. Compared to the excruciating pain and time-wasting that the Post Office will inflict at any opportunity, Rick and Denise are such a joy to do business with. They are super friendly, efficient, know you by first name (how they remember, I don't know, but they do..), actually care that you are getting the best solution for your needs, and can do it all in about 3 minutes flat. I moved away and they forward my mail by priority mail whenever I call and ask - Rick will go look what's in my box and tell me what's there, e.g. if I'm waiting on something in particular. They call to let me know when I've received Fedex packages etc. Oh, and they have U-hauls and a chihuahua. read more

I've had a mailbox at Drive-Thru Postal for 2+ years now, and Rick & Denise are some of my favorite people in Austin! They do a great job, even when the shop is crazy busy (and it does get busy!). If I'm expecting a package, I can always call or text to see if it's arrived before making the drive over. They have helped me successfully ship out tons of packages, including multiple boxes to a friend in Zambia, which have all made it to their destination-- incredible! I appreciate that Rick will take the time to determine the best shipping option for my budget as well. And of course, having the option to drive through is awesome when I'm in a rush/ have the dog in the car/ weather is bad/ parking is scarce. I can't recommend Drive-Thru Postal enough! read more

If i could give 0 stars that would sum up how i was treated here. Went in there with my mom who only speaks spanish. Which made everyone in there look at us in a weird way. The old white guy who worked there was off laughing with a lady of his own color. He looked at me and said "that'll be 60 cents" with a rude attitude. After giving him the money. I looked at the printing machine and asked him how it functioned. He didn't answer me but 3 seconds later proceeds to tell me, "your letter is in the mailbox BA BYE". never going back read more

When I moved in with my boyfriend (who has used the service for years) and went over to pick up my mail for the first time, Rick was *overjoyed* to meet me and then called my boyfriend to tell him I'd been by and had picked up our packages. The second time I went over, he saw me open my mailbox and let me know I had a package -- recognizing me after meeting me just the once and recalling that he had something for me. Not only do Rick and Denise provide great service, but I feel like my mail and packages are safe in the hands of very mindful folks. Drive-Thru Postal is a strange little island of small town hospitality. There's a definite quirk factor (that adds to the experience) and if you're looking for professional detachment this isn't the best option. A little bug-eyed chihuahua hangs out in a plastic mail crate behind the counter and apparently Rick told my boyfriend today that I'm a real catch :) read more

This place is the best. Post Offices and mailing centers get a bad rap for being boring, slow and generally a terrible use of time. This place is the exact opposite - this is a one-man show, and he is FAST - I was there for 5-10 minutes (total!! at 9 am on a weekday!!) to get a passport sent in Priority Mail. He took care of me, the people behind me, the guy in front of me, and two people at the window all at the same time - everyone must have been in and out within 5 minutes at most.
