Fantastic friendly and helpful staff. We loaded up on gourmet popcorn and seasonings, olive oils and vinegars, plus a serving tray, popcorn bucket, wine tote and god knows what else. Had to go back to the car to store it because it was too much to carry around. The upstairs section lets you taste maybe a hundred different types of oils and vinegars. They have serving suggestions and select recipes for the current season. They ahve things to serve them in (although the bottles themselves look very nice). Downstairs are the other kitchen items with special seasonings for everything you might want to serve, special things to serve them on, etc. etc. etc. We bought a popcorn bowl with a grate in the bottom for the uncooked kernels to fall through. We've used it several time in the first week home and it really works. The popcorn itself is delicious and the seasonings we bought for it make it even more so! I'm going to visit this store, and its sister store across the street, every time I'm in Vineyard Haven.

In Downtown LA there is a fantastic store that has an insane number of knives... maybe too many. This store claims that they they have the biggest selection of knives in New England. I feel like they have enough good knives to have a varied enough selection for different preferences, but yet not overwhelming their customers with too many choices. I got a great bread knife that I'm really happy with recently. It's just the right weight (not to light) and has a really comfortable grip and an "elegant" length. It makes cutting breads really smooth and easy to cut very thin slices. It is apparently their best bread knife, and at $150, I think the price is right. Despite being on Beacon Hill, I don't feel that their prices are high or unreasonable, but just right. The store is fun to browse through for many other kitchen or cooking supplies or gifts. As a well-stocked mom and pop store it has that quality of surprise at finding something you never thought about. The personnel is also very helpful. I've been there a couple times and they seem to be knowledgeable and willing to help, to explain things and answer questions. They have personal experience with the things they sell.

And my husband and I even purchased several items (which I regret for the reasons to follow...) Cons: Unfortunately, I could not agree more with the review for this shop posted by Jasmin. When entering the shop, the lady working there (possibly the owner, I am not sure) looked directly at my husband and I without saying a word. Just watched us then began chit chatting with someone about her weekend plans. When it came time to check out for a couple of items I wanted (a candle and a shirt) she still did not say hello and simply said when I put down my items "you can not buy the shirt here. You have to buy it at the other register" ( There are two registers.. apparently there is two shops that are connected. I guess the one register is for the clothing part of the shop only). Fair enough. So she began wrapping my candle then stops, sets it down and says in a huffy tone "I do not accept credit for a purchase less than 10 dollars" ( even though between my two items it was over $45). I understand some businesses have this rule, but the way she said it could not have been any more unapologetic. So I said that I will just get the shirt then. Without a word she turned around and walked the ten feet to the other register. So I followed her awkwardly. She stood behind the counter without a word, bagged up my shirt then stared at me so I handed her my card. Without a word she then slammed my card down onto the table after processing it. Still not a word! By this point I was not happy. I put my receipt in the bag and as I walked away she says in a snarky tone "thanks". A tip for her if she reads this: You work in customer service and could really afford to at least pretend to be friendly. You could start with saying "hi" to potential customers when they walk into your small shop. Or maybe just smile to even acknowledge them. That would be a start. Or maybe don't and just continue to receive this sort of feedback.
