Waitress used the old "oh, its to stop people sitting on their phones" excuse which I found insulting since I just wanted to google something in our conversation, not sit on my phone and I don't have a New Zealand SIM as I'm on holiday. Just be honest and say "We are too stingy to share with paying customers or too lazy to change the password periodically. A good idea would be to call the SSID 'office' instead of 'Gintrap'........and also put a cell blocker if you are all so concerned about people using their phones since locals were using their phones all around us. One of the three ladies who were serving, with short hair and glasses has no peripheral vision, we were waving our arms 10degrees from her 12 o'clock, we thought she saw as she looked, then she walked towards us ...... then over to other people, plus failed to hear. Anyway, the food made up for the poor service, the food is actually a five if they just fire all the idiot women who are serving and hire people who belong in the restaurant and service industry as none of the three floundering around me and my mum did. Seafood soup was perfect, prawn salad was amazing. I loved the mushroom risotto balls even though they were a bit too salty. Bravo chef, boo to the three waitresses and manager/owner for the service and lack of WiFi. That alone made us move on immediately after our meal so you missed out on 6 beers just because of petty stingyness; think about that; as that is more than the cost of unlimited Internet at your prices. So, if you negate the stingy minded manager who doesn't want to upgrade to an unlimited package or whatever; and fire the idiots for incompetency and replace them with good staff, this place would be a 5 with it's perfect Napier marina location and great food.

It's always a bit of a crap shoot when vacationing and trying to find a good spot for dinner…read more Emporium was a winner for us today. We made a reservation online although when we arrived it wasn't too busy and we were able to get a seat outside on the sidewalk. As most places do not have A/C in town, this was preferable to the somewhat warm restaurant. Our nice server Michaela took good care of us and made some good food recommendations. We started with the prawn toasts (indescribable but REALLY good), then followed with Fish and chips (light and good) and the coconut chicken salad which was shaved cucumber, poached chicken, coconut, and peanuts with a light refreshing dressing-quite good (according to my spouse). A bottle of Rose topped things off. The menu has quite a lot of choices so it should be easy for most people to find something that interests them. Nice food, nice service, nice meal.

A little inattentive, but we got everything we asked for, we just had to ask for everything. We had fish and chips. There was a lot of fish, flaky and perfectly cooked. I was on my way to breakfast and was leaving the immediate area, but wanted to make a stop here to…read more"check-it-out", get a little take-out for later! I had been travelling throughout NZ and pretty much been hitting several F&C shops from Auckland to Wellington, Napier, and in-between. Granted, I didn't hit every shop in this amazing country, by any stretch, but in the 2 weeks here, I hit as many as I could. My criteria for F&C (all food, actually) is all about value, as I am certain that most of the time you can get superior quality without having to get banged for your bucks, and the Frying Dutchman is proof in the puddin'! I'd have to say it was the best I had in all of New Zealand, there were comparable, maybe (I said, just maybe) a few a tad better, but the price, the friendliness, and quality is unmatched. Heck, if I were a local, this would be my go-to, without doubt. The owner and his pop were there, and they were great folk (which seemed to be par for New Zealanders in general). They were happy to chat me up, and giving me and my sweet pie some sweet info about fish, the area, etc... I ordered one Hoki (fish o' the day) and Tarakihi (because I could compare it to others I'd tried). The intent was to put it on the back seat, got get breakfast, then try it later; but the smell and the golden battered, large pieces were making my mouth drool, so I had to pull a few chunks. AND, MAN-O-MAN-O, MANNNN, juicy, flaky, mouthwatering perfection. The batter was perfectly crisp, not that thick (crappy) bready/heavy kind, light in color, clean, fresh (seemed to be in fresh oil that is mixed with other foods). It was so good that I ate it sparingly over two days, like rations, as I continued my travels; and guess what... I never heated it up after that, and it was still delicious!!!! Of course, I recommend, you get this, and eat it fresh out of the fryer, which I wish I did (and then I would have ordered a lot more to go)! If I ever make it back to NZ, it goes without saying, it'll be on my itinerary to hit this place up again, fo' shur!

I was fully wasted, or perhaps exhausted would been a better choice of word. So I took out my trusty iPhone and googled for food options. Sadly, there aren't many yelp reviews for the region. I normally wouldn't expect any authentic Asian restaurants in a small town like Napier. When I stepped in the doorway. I saw loads of people waiting to get their meals to go. So I thought maybe this was gonna be a decent place for dinner. I sat down, had a look at the menu. First thing that got my attention was, why the heck do we have to pay so much more in Auckland for the same food?! Omg, the mains were all under 20 bucks! So, I ordered a prawn Pad Thai, a chicken red curry, a entree of deep fried spring rolls. Service was very efficient. I had the food in front of my within 10mins after ordering. The red curry was so tasty, I couldn't think of an Thai restaurant in Auckland that could match it's quality. The aroma of the coconut cream filled my nostrils. It was intoxicating. They use the thin rice noodles instead of the thick ones for their Pad Thai. And that didn't disappoint either. It wasn't greasy, and the noodle was still firm to the bite and not soggy like some places. I am not sure what's happening to me lately. But I kept finding the cheapest thing on the menu to be the tastiest. The entree of deep fried rice rolls. Omg it's like nothing I have tasted before. It's so delicate yet crunchy, the accompanying dipping sauce compliments the subtle flavours beautifully. And all that for 8 bucks, what a steal. If I visit Napier again, I will be sure to eat at Sri Thai again.

Both excellent tho do remember to specify how you want them cooked (if they don't ask you). Otherwise they will do a default mild and we like it more spicy than that. Finished by sharing the baked ice cream which was also yummy. Not inexpensive (NZ$90 between the two of us) but good service, great food plus 2 beers and 2 wines made it great value. Definitely recommend
