This is a great local breakfast spot with a lot of variety of healthy bowls, sandwiches, wraps, bagels and lots of smoothie/coffee options. Place was busy but we were able to snag a table. We all enjoyed our meals. I had the bagel sandwich with sausage egg cheese bacon and hash brown. This was a filling sandwich. I had their lilikoi smoothie and this was very refreshing in the morning! Highly recommend this smoothie and the breakfast sandwich. Would definitely come back to try some other items!
#48 in my NEW ENGLAND & NY COFFEE SHOP SERIES Came here more so for their Erewhon dupe smoothies and decided to get the sunbent smoothie. It was a mix of dragon fruit, coconut, and mango. Very aesthetic and refreshing! I was hoping it was going to be more sweet (not because of added sugar) but because of the fruits, however it was a little too tart. My partner however got their mocha and it was delicious! My uncle also equally enjoyed his oat milk latte. Overall, they have a very large space to study/chat in, plus lots of drink and food options.
Came here around 10 AM and there was a super long line!!! my 4 stars goes towards the food, the egg sammy was really good! The coffee (banana caramel latte) was lacking a little bit though, and didn't really have much flavor. Would definitely go back, but would order a different flavor of coffee!

A cute subterranean spot for coffee, smoothies and food. I just stopped in for an iced americano and a flat white and both were solid. Given the line out the door, the staff were friendly and patient and quick get the beverages prepared.
Drift was definitely on the expensive side, but worth it for the experience. My husband had the iced cold brew with caramel and oat milk, and it was excellent. The kids enjoyed bacon, egg, and cheese bagels along with water served in aluminum cans, which was a nice touch. I had a chai latte that was a little lukewarm, but still good. Overall, everything was very good. I loved the atmosphere, very earthy with beautiful natural wood details, and the swinging seats were a huge hit with the kids!
After arriving via the Providence Newport Ferry, we were looking for a place to grab some breakfast. We checked our Yelp map and wandered around the area, looking for a good venue. We drifted across the street to the Drift Cafe, and once we finally found the correct entry (downstairs using the right side of the restaurant) we entered this popular and somewhat eclectic little cafe. It wasn't easy finding an open table, the venue is small, and Drift is popular. We ordered a breakfast sandwich and all day breakfast plate, which took about 10 to 15 minutes to arrive. Both of which were hot and tasty. We'd be delighted to return here.
Good food and quick service Good atmosphere and a nice spot to relax and sit while having a drink. They won't rush you out, you can take your time. Do go early to avoid the line. I recommend the iced Turkish latte

Solid cafe in Newport. On Thames street so very busy and parking can be tough. I came on a Thursday around 11:30 am and it was packed. There was a line to order. I ordered ahead online and my food was ready earlier than it said it would be so I would recommend doing that if you come here. Great menu, lots of aesthetic smoothies and coffee drinks. Healthy options. I got the bagel sandwich with egg and avocado and added a hash brown. Sandwiches are really customizable. It was good, avocado was perfectly ripe. Ingredients tasted fresh. I probably wouldn't add the hash brown next time (1.80$) because it wasn't crispy and kind of just tasted like potatoes. Not overly priced though. Sandwhich was (10.80$) with the addition I made. Employees are really nice here. Super cute inside. Couches and swinging chairs. Nice place to hang out and enjoy some food and drinks. Would definitely want to try their coffee next time.
Drift cafe rocks! Excellent selection of smoothies, coffees and bowls. Got the blueberry recovery and was so so good! My girlfriend and friend got the other pictured so aesthetically pleasing and they both loved them as well. Place was clean, pet friendly, and the workers were kind as well especially with a line almost always out the door. Do keep in mind it is Newport so you will pay a little more but honestly was really good and would come back.
Have been here a few times now for coffee and it's always good. I love this cafe---it's the cutest one in Newport for sure! I'm so happy they expanded; i think the larger space suits them well! Their viral smoothie didn't disappoint. It was very yummy! I have loved everything I've had from here! Service is great. The girls here are always super helpful!
A lovely local breakfast place in Downtown Newport. The food is always consistent and delicious. They serve smoothie bowls and other breakfast options. It is on the pricier side for the portion/size, but you are paying for quality ingredients and it is the only place of its type in the immediate area. Service is quick. You order at a counter, then grab a seat. There are only a few spots to sit - and most folks eat then leave to make room for new diners. I would not recommend as a "sit and hang out" type of place. read more

This is a local business husband and wife owned. I love getting a quick bite to eat and coffee here. They can get very busy especially in the summer months and have a great online ordering platform where you can order ahead if you are in a rush. I used to work right up the street and put my lunch order in advance. My go to is the iced lavender vanilla latte and iced matcha latte (I am a huge lavender lover so also add in lavender to my matcha too!) They just opened up the cafe with a newly renovated area next door and expanded the place. They have free wifi where you can pop into your laptop and work remote for a few hours. The staff is always so friendly and work hard. They are quick even in the super busy months. They have cute signage hung up and the cafe has a modern bright earthy vibe. read more
Drift Cafe is the epitome of a hip, local establishment. All the reviews hit the marks with long lines and wait times in peak season, but the effort is worth the experience unless you are a die-hard Starbucks or Dunkin' person. Drift is as "crunchy" as they come, and while that used to be viewed as a negative previously it has been all the rage in recent years. They have a feel of hippy meets hipster in terms of their offerings and ingredients used, including all the "in" exotic and health-related items like acai, chia seeds, CBD, and of course everything is organic and sustainably-sourced. The space is very bright and vibrant to accompany the smells of coffee, oatmeal, and blended fruit. Seating is pretty difficult to come by unless you are there super early or during the tourist offseason. It's a really well designed space, decorated to bring brightness (it's primarily a breakfast spot) which is offset by the colorful food and drinks. The personnel and attitude matches the space. Bubbly personalities take your order with a smile and are as pleasant as the aromas that fill the space. I've been here a few times and I've never had an issue with my order or the service, which is pretty amazing considering the volume they do on a daily basis. The food and drinks are imaginative and unique in a world of copycats. From the Purple Chill Pill smoothie to their take on Turmeric Golden Milk they have forged their own path on top of the typical offerings of your favorite coffee shops. The food is equally unique, not necessarily in the ingredients used but in the variety of offerings and combinations. You have your typical breakfast platters/plates, hot oatmeal/cereal, smoothie bowls, and sandwiches. What you get for the price paid is a real value in my opinion, but hinges on quality over quantity. You shouldn't leave Drift hungry, but don't expect the 3# of greasy diner food you can get at half the cost at a Denny's or local diner. Drift has become my favorite spot in the downtown area to grab n' go or sit (when a seat is available) for breakfast. The complaints I've heard and read all relate to the waits, long lines, and size of the seating areas. I honestly don't have an issue with any of those after reading about it before trying Drift, and their food and drinks only further solidified in my mind that it was worth the wait. I would recommend Drift to anyone that is in the area and wants a healthy, filling, and invigorating start to their day. It doesn't come without it's costs (both time and monetary), but I'm a firm believer in what they stand for and love to back these kind of establishments with my business and give them the love they deserve and need. read more

Cute, cute, cute! Delicious, delicious, delicious Go quick! The Coconut Pie iced coffee... might be in my top ten coffees I've had! I wish I was local to get it more often. The bowl was yummy.. I wish there were some more fruit choices but it was still delicious. A must go!!! read more

We are in Newport for a wedding. First morning here, we went to Drift cafe because of the great reviews. We were not disappointed! The ambiance is really cute! The staff were so kind and friendly. I asked for their recommendations and they suggested the Farmers Scramlet. Super tasty. The coffee was good but v strong and bitter. We plan to come back during our stay in Rhode Island. read more
Apparently I wasn't as high on Drift Cafe as most. The food was solid but nothing was spectacular or even above average. The farmers scramlet was heavy on veggies and light on chicken sausage, and the hash it out scramlet had a fried egg that was more over easy than fried over well. I generally expect the latter unless clearly given a choice - which I was not. I was also a bit frustrated that my butter pecan lattes (the best part of the meal by far) were given to me about 10 minutes before my food order arrived. This made my coffee just warm by the time I was ready to sit down and enjoy it. On the plus side, the place is charming and would be nice to sit down in and have a meal if not crowded. read more

This cute and quaint cafe is in a great location in town. My boyfriend and I stopped in for breakfast the other day and found it to be a bit hit or miss. While many reviews rave about the açaí bowl, I thought the açaí was a bit too thick and tasteless for me. Although, the fruit was fresh, and the coconut and granola were good. I probably wouldn't get this again if I were to come back. The good morning sandwich was delicious, and I honestly wish they sold the chipotle aioli sauce in a bottle because it was so good. For coffee, the Blue algae lacked coffee flavor, which i'm pretty sure it was supposed to have. On the other hand, the oat and honey was very tasty and smooth. The person taking our order at the counter was very nice, and after customers left their table she sprayed them down which I typically don't see in cafes. The cafe is worth a try for sure, especially if you can catch one of the swinging seats in the window!! read more

This is a trendy little cafe on Thames street near a lot of touristy shops! They are currently closed on Mondays which we weren't expecting, but we just went back on Tuesday. There was a steady stream of people coming in and out around 11am. There are only a couple tables inside and outside, so don't plan on making this your brunch spot with a big group of people. You order at the counter and then you can sit if there's open spots. The service was a little slow, but everything was super fresh! We got the Mother of Dragons and Sailor's Sky smoothie bowls. The Mother of Dragons was refreshing, but the coconut flakes and chia pudding didn't provide a whole lot of flavor, and I wouldn't recommend it. We added almond butter drizzle to the Sailor's Sky smoothie bowl which was very good! The portions were pretty large, so share if you aren't too hungry! We also got the Berry Good smoothie which was fruity and yummy. The Farmer's Scramlet was also good, but nothing special. read more
Back and better than ever with my first review in like, six months! The COVID blues had me down, but I'm glad I finally got out to dine at Drift Cafe in Newport! This adorable little spot is a welcome and bright addition to the neighborhood, especially since we've been collectively battling quarantine doldrums for what seems like forever. The space is rather unassuming, and the average pedestrian may not notice the entrance, which is below street level. However, the keen eye will be rewarded with a clean and bright space that has a wonderful menu, friendly service, and SWING CHAIRS! How can it get any better than that? Drift features a decent selection of artisanal brunch offerings (served all day, thank goodness! I have developed a penchant for sleeping late during quarantine, and my day begins in the afternoon usually. Good thing I can still have my egg scramble and eat it too, even at 4pm!), plus sandwiches, grain bowls, quirky iced teas and coffees, and the freshest fruit bowl I've ever had from a quick service cafe! Filled to the brim with seasonal berries and ripe banana, it's worth the extra $6 to add it onto your meal or get it as a quick and healthy summer snack. I also really love the Blue Raspberry Tea, which they source locally, and tastes incredibly flavorful, even without added sweetener. If you want, you can add some of their lavender simple syrup, which gives a summery twist to the already tasty beverage. Even though Drift is new to the neighborhood, I wish them the best of luck, and can guarantee my repeated business time and time again. I mean, SWING CHAIRS. Come on! read more

cute place and depending on the time you go it can be quite packed! the line goes pretty fast and food comes out fairly quick. the staffs are all very friendly and helpful for any questions you might have. we got two breakfast bowls, one smoothie bowls, one smoothie and one bagel sandwich. everything was pretty good, nothing blew me away but a very solid delicious breakfast. read more

I live in Boston, but would come back to Newport JUST for this place. As a health nut, I am always finding clean, healthy, colorful foods and I think this place really hit the spot. Portions were sufficient, food was super fresh, clearly ingredients were high quality and OMG their lattes were GOOD. read more

It's my second visit and my husband's first. A rainy, foggy morning in the area and after an early morning errand we decided to get breakfast takeout. I love their bacon egg and cheese wrap, with some additions. My husband ordered the hash bowl, with some additions. He had coffee, I had cocoa. I've never dined in - it's small- but cute and cozy. Husband raved about the hash bowl and especially the bagel. I loved my meal but didn't love the cocoa. The clover app makes it easy to see all of the possibilities that the kitchen is capable of producing - sides, bread choices, sauces, etc to customize your meal. We had trouble checking out but we were able to easily call in and place the order, everything was made perfectly as ordered. Parking is tricky but there are a few spots you can hover nearby and run in when the order is ready. If I were staying in town I'd likely walk there daily! read more

Drift café is pretty OK. I would say that the inside and the decor really help it be much better than it is. Their coffee is bomb. The honey and oats latte is absolutely hands-down one of the best coffees I have ever had but their food is pretty subpar. My friends and I ordered breakfast wraps. I had the egg bomb wrap, and my friends got the CBR breakfast wrap. Although yes, the rapture pretty good they were not filled especially looking at the menu and see how much stuff was in them. You would think they would be much bigger than they were. But they were pretty small wraps. As someone who usually can't finish a full sandwich, I finish this fall right because it was pretty small. The staff are pretty nice. They only had one person working the register and making copies at the same time so a line formed pretty quickly. But overall had a pretty good experience here. read more

What an awesome little place in downtown Newport. I was only in town for the day but I'm so glad I stopped here for breakfast and a coffee because it was absolutely incredible. I never knew that a fruit bowl could make me so happy but it was so delicious. I opted for the sunset bowl after talking to the workers about the different bowls and grabbed an Americano that was one of the best ive ever had. The inside atmosphere was so cute with plenty of seating and a couple tables outside so I opted up to sit outside since it was so nice. It's right next to tons of other shops that you can walk around and go shopping afterwards and there's paid parking on the street. read more
