Worst experience with any company ever. First they give you a quote, and then they change it as soon as they walk in the door. I highly recommend a different company for any and all needs. Thankfully the Home Depot stepped in and made it right unlike these clowns. read more

Home Depot uses this company to install water heaters and they have a lot of solid reviews on Yelp. However, my experience was a comedy of errors. All I received was a lot of polite excuses and no solutions. It seems like one hand is not talking to the other and you have installation guys that just want to move onto the next job. Sewage water in our basement knocked out our water heater. We called DRF to install it and they gave us a quote that was better than several other plumbers. The plumber showed up and he had the wrong water heater. Their phone representative had spec'd it out incorrectly over the phone. He had put that we vented it through the chimney. I have no chimney. Even though they made a mistake, they couldn't get a new one out that day. So my family would be another day without hot water. But they assured me that we would be the first stop in the morning and they would waive the $75 fee for that. So the next morning, they call us and tell us that they have a meeting for all of their plumbers. I'm still the first stop, but they won't be out there until 11 AM. Great. So the plumber finally shows up and says he can't do the job. He can't vent the water heater to code. The plumber the day before didn't check any of this. They need to get the village inspector but can't get a hold of him. We wind up bringing another plumbing company onsite. They come up with a solution to vent the water heater to code within 30 minutes. They also somehow got a hold of the village and the inspector. When I called DRF to cancel their services, they offered me $50 off to still use them. I declined. read more

My husband and I turned to Home Depot to buy a new water heater after our old one started leaking. We chose a heater and made arrangements with Home Depot to have it installed. Home Depot contracts with DRF Total Property Solutions for installations of water heaters. Home Depot quoted us about $750 which included the water heater and installation. A plumber from DRF showed up on time on the scheduled day and was nice and polite. But when I showed him our water heater he started to tell me that everything about our heater was "wrong" or "illegal" and it was going to take a lot of work to fix it. He scratched his head, sighed loudly and pointed out several things that he said was not up to code and claimed that the connectors on top of the heater was in the wrong location. All the work that needed to be done and pipes that needed to be replaced, he said, was not included in the installation fee and would cost us an extra $400! So instead of the $700-$750 we expected to pay we were now going to have to pay over 1100 bucks. This would include the drip pan that we needed which would cost us $35 to buy and $75 to install. The installation of a drip pan pretty much consists of putting it on the floor and attaching a short PVC pipe and point that towards the floor drain. Even I, as someone who can hardly work a screw driver, would have been able to do that but apparently DRF thought this was $75 worth of work. We sent the guy packing and after doing some checking around, including reading the review above from Brad F. who had an almost identical experience with DRF, we decided to go with Lowe's and the company they use instead. Low and behold it turns out that not everything about our heater was wrong or illegal and nothing needed to be done with the connectors above. The guy did have to exchange a plastic pipe for copper and a flexible pipe for a hard one but that was included in the price. We bought our own drip pan for $17 and the installation of that was included in the quoted price too. So in the end we ended up getting everything done up to code for less than $750 and according to the guy from the Lowe's company installing our water heater wasn't much harder or required much more work than average unlike what the guy from DRF said. It seems obvious to me that DRF will try to scam their customers if they can. I assume that because I'm a woman who know very little about plumbing the guy decided to play me for a fool. I would not recommend dealing with these guys and if you do make sure you double check the price they quote you. read more

Jesse and Tom J were friendly and professional. They patiently re-did all the plumbing for my water heater and fixed some previous mistakes by other plumbers. They also made sure things were clean before they left and that everything was to my satisfaction. read more

Been waiting for almost two days now for the contractor! Poor customer service, as it stands right now they won't be out of my house until 9:00 pm. Giving Home Depot a very terrible name. Told I would receive a call between 7-8:00, missed two days of work, never received a call....they sure did receive my money with no problem! read more

Our 15 year old hot water heater just died last week and we found that we were getting quotes for more than we thought it would be. We ended up calling Home Depot and subsequently dealt with DFR in the process. They were the lowest price we found and I could not say more about the amazing customer service I received! By the end of this process I felt like I was best friends with Joyce. She did SO much to help us and really made sure we understood all the options available to us. We originally ordered a 12 year but when Andy came out he discovered that we could not go with a tall heater because of the way our venting system was set up. He was very good at explaining what the issue was and why it was unsafe as well as providing us with our options. So after that I was back on the phone with Joyce to double check what our options were in terms of short heaters and she was able to find us the best thing available for our predicament. She was so responsive and constantly dealt with my requests to get everything in email and was seriously the nicest person I talked with all day. What we decided on needed to be ordered, so unfortunately we had to live with our leaky heater a few more days, but obviously there is nothing they could do about that. Peter (and I forget the other guy) came out a few days later and installed the new heater. They were very professional and everything was left clean. We were orignally hesitant of going through Home Depot, but I would definitely trust them with future projects. read more

Called DRF to repair the sprinkler system in the house I just moved into. I knew very little about the old system but the estimator did his best to determine the problem and keep me informed. He relayed the information to the office and got a call with a quote the same day and schedule the following week. The crew was very professional and did a great job. They made sure to walk me through all the settings and show me how each zone worked and each setting. I would definitely recommend them for your sprinkler system maintenance/installation needs. read more

Excellent service by Jesse and Brett and Mike. Very competent employees beginning with Mike answering the phone. Mike answered all my questions and concerns and was able to give me a fair quote for my water heater purchase and installation within minutes. The quote provided for a better product and for a longer warranty on the product and labor. The customer service and quote was far better than a local competitor. Jesse and Brett showed up on time and Jesse immediately showed me his plumbers license upon request. Jesse and Brett worked very well together and were pleasant and answered any additional questions that we had. They were efficient and completed the project in a timely manner and cleaned up any mess. I would highly recommend DRF in the future. We are very happy with their service and workmanship. read more

I would give a '0' rating if at all possible. It is 8:30 at night and Jeff, who is the most professional person I've dealt with at this company, is still here. We can't eat or take showers. He did not arrive until after 5:00. Customer service is rude and very unhelpful. Home Depot should consider this company as a a liability. The bill that I was given was $370 more than what I was quoted. Home Depot doesn't seem to care about my plight, either. We weren't in an emergency situation and I so wish I would have taken to the time to find a PROFESSIONAL plumbing company. BTW, Jeff still has one more call tonight. DRF should definitely drop the 'trust' out of their title because they aren't trustworthy. Will be pursuing this with the BBB. read more

I still can't believe what happened. My experience with DRF plumbing was absolutely horrific. I did read their poor reviews, but still decided to go with them as they contract for a big name retailer - Home Depot. That was a really bad decision. Their plumbers visited our home to install a water heater. I wasn't at home and my wife was managing the install. She was upstairs when the plumbers started working. Couple of minutes later, they started packing up and told my wife to get the main water valve fixed, which they said broke as they were trying to turn it off. They said the water valve was old and on the verge of breaking. My wife asked if they can fix it and was quoted $200. Really??? You break something during a job and just walk away without taking any responsibility. We had to go through so much trouble for their handiwork - stay without water for the night, coordinate with the city to turn off the water supply to our home and then turn it back on after replacing the valve. I followed up with their management over the phone many times and got the same lame excuse - the valve was too old and on the verge of breaking. And they were persistent on the $200 charge to fix it. When I followed up with Home Depot store manager, he spoke with DRF and provided the same account as above. When I asked him to provide this explanation in writing, he took 5 days to get back and changed the account, this time stating the valve was dysfunctional to begin with. Wow! At the end of it, I feel pity for their management. When I got the valve replaced through another plumber, it took them $15-20 worth of parts and 15 minutes for the job. DFS wouldn't stand behind their work to evade such a cheap fix, and instead lose $1,000 business on the water heater. read more

Had our water heater go out this afternoon. Discovered our basement covered with water. Called Home Depot for same day install. They contract with DRF. Their employee Rich showed up within the hour, installed new unit and removed old unit in no time flat. Fast and very friendly. Not pushy at all. Did the job exactly as he said he would. Very satisfied and would recommend Rich to friends. read more

Rich was the plumber that installed our water heater, he was awesome. Super knowledgeable, very friendly, professional and speedy. Other than a glitch with the call center about scheduling, everything went as smooth as I could have hoped. And it came in slightly cheaper than I was quoted. Would certainly use them again. read more

I was referred to DRF by Home Depot after a counter top installation. Upon arrival, I was told by Andy G. that I may have to reroute plumbing under the sink, it he could not connect to the existing pipes. After about an hour he informed me that he was in fact able to use my existing plumbing. I trusted him, because I am not a professional plumber. One week after installation, I came home from work to water running down my freshly painted basement wall directly under the sink. The vibration from the garbage disposal had disconnected the pipes. I immediately called DRF. They were able to send Andy back the next day. This time he recommended that we rework the pipes, which I agreed to pay for. The concern that I have is not in the fact that I had to call them back, but I would not be in this situation had Andy made the proper recommendation in the first place. He tried to accuse ME of choosing not to reroute and to use the existing pipes. Furthermore, the situation was elevated to management, for now I have a basement wall in need of repair. Upon speaking to a manager, he also tried to accuse me of blaming them for "pre-existing" water damage. This was a bit humorous to me for the wall and the cabinet was still damp from the pipe disconnecting. I spoke to this manager on March 8, 2016. He said that he would get back to me the next day with the next steps. It is now April 9, 2016, and I have never heard back from him. If you are looking for a dishonest company, and to be completely aggravated, inconvenienced, frustrated, and treated poorly; in addition to spending more money out of pocket; then, this company is for you. Me? I will never use this company again and will continue to relay my experience to anyone I can. read more

I set up a water heater install about two weeks ahead of time, and two people called me to let me know they would be calling me to give me a time frame on the day of the install. Nobody called me and when I called they said they had "no idea" when they were coming. When I called back at 3:00pm I got the same runaround and was told the best they could do was give me a call one hour before. At 6:30pm I got a call that sorry, they just didn't have anyone to come out and install the water heater and they would come the next day. As I had taken the day off work, this would not do. And if you call their hold info says they ALWAYS get to the job the day they promised. I think not. They were very indifferent through the whole process. I guess as they have all the Home Depot business they just don't care. read more

I should have read these reviews before I called Home Depot. They also quoted me $750 today (must be their generic quote). However, I also had the experience of the plumber showing up and telling me nothing was up to code (I have copper piping). He then quoted me $1,035! I told him there was no way I was going to pay that much over the original quote. He told me I need a new overflow pipe (why, the one that is on there goes directly to the floor?), solid copper instead of flexible, 4 dielectic unions (?). I should have asked him to show me a copy of the code he was talking about. Instead he called the office and they generously offered to drop the price to $900 (isn't that weird how they can do that?) I then told them no, called our Village and asked what the codes are. They told me they follow the International Mechanical Code which I researched. It quotes the International Plumbing Code. I then researched that and found nothing that says it has to be SOLID COPPER PIPE. I called DRF back and they said they follow the Illinois Codes. So, of course I researched that and there are many different types of piping that is up to code, including Copper Tubing which is what I already have. Nice try DRF. read more

Tom R. was prompt and did the job in a timely manner. My new toliet looks great.

This company definitely will rip you off! Prices were outrageous, but hey, I needed a water heater asap. Their reply from Home Depot was very quick, and scheduled the installation of my water very quick, however, they made an absolute mess in my home, as well as totally redoing my ventilation from my furnace, not acceptable! Left debris everywhere, and used filthy dirty PVC pipes out of the new Water heater, unbelievable!!! DON'T DO IT! I am sure there are many reputable plumbing companies out here that do a much better job! I truly feel raped by this company!!! read more

My wife and I got a quote of 1,300 over the phone at Home Depot for the installation of a new water heater. I'd like to note the water heater was listed at 650 at Home Depot. When they arrived to install the new water heater they then said it would cost 1,700. Really? 400 increase? We had no choice but to go through with the installation as our old heater was leaking and was over 23 years old. I asked them repeatedly for a break-down of the cost that went into the 1,700 and they said it was a "one-package price" and they didn't have the details. I told them all I wanted to make sure of was that we got the heater for 650 and they told me they could not give me a break down. Really? Then where does the 1,721 price come from? Do you just pick a number out of a hat? I'm a CPA and it hard to believe they don't have supporting documentation for their prices. Do not use this contractor, they will gauge you in price when they get to your home. I called them many times after for a detail break-down of the cost and I received the same response, it's part of a package. I'm so unhappy and I'm extremely surprised Home Depot uses this Company. I'm so unhappy that I'll probably never use Home Depot for any new home installations. I will be reporting DRF to the better business bureau and I will go directly to Home Depot's top guys to complain. Do not use these guys!!! read more

We had DRF come out and install a brand new Rheem water heater. They didn't do a good job. Within 6 months there was a gas leak. We had to shut it off and called them again since we were under warranty. The whole process took 10 days - they were VERY slow. The Honeywell part was apparently bad and was cracked. So they had to ship a new part. That took 2 more days to come. We had no hot water (in the middle of December in Chicago) for 10 days. The new part that shipped was also faulty. So it took another 3 days for them to fix it. The service men were very nice, but the process, the management and the whole ordeal was a nightmare. We have a baby at home too - so w/o hot water it was terrible. DONT USE THEM. Also these water heaters have been out for 1 year or so, tons of kinks. We asked for them to replace the whole unit, and they refused. Terrible service. Awful experience. I'd use someone else. These people were connected via Home Depot (not good at all). If I could give ZERO stars I would. read more

My water heater failed Saturday and I immediately called this company through Home Depot. They scheduled me for Monday. They told me that someone will call me between 6:30 to 7:30 AM on Monday so I will know if the installation will take place in the morning or in the afternoon. Nobody called me so I called them at around 8:30. The customer service told me that I am on schedule in the afternoon (take note afternoon). I took a day off from work so that I am home for the installation. I called 4:20 PM to check where the technician was. The customer service told me the technician has 2 more customers before me but they will complete my installation. At 8 PM, still no calls from them so I called. The customer service called the technician and was informed that he has 1 more customer before me (TAKE NOTE this is 8 PM). Then the customer service told me that she can reschedule the next day first thing in the morning. I asked what time and the customer service cannot and is not willing to provide a timeframe (ie. 2 or 4 hours range). Very horrible customer service and disappointed with this company. They should not overbooked their schedule to make sure that they can do what they promised to do to their customer within the timeframe agreed. YOUR CUSTOMERS HAVE JOBS TOO JUST LIKE YOU SO BE CONSIDERATE OF THEIR SCHEDULE BY CALLING THEM IF YOU CANNOT MAKE IT TO YOUR SCHEDULED TIME (IN THIS CASE AFTERNOON). I will never use this company nor recommend this to anyone, very unprofessional people. read more

They told me to send a picture on the phone number that will come in the email so they know what they will require to fix the job but never send email(false promise). Guy came with big box truck but doesn't carry a lead(Metal you pour in to fix the leak)in the truck which very normal thing usually all plumber carries. They charge me for a service call (last about 5 minutes) and came another day with lead and fix the leak. Guy told me wait about 24 hrs before any use. I waited 48 hrs and found out it is still leaking. I called them to notify and they said our management team will be in contact with you. No one called, I went to Home depot to let them know. Home depot call them while I was there and they said they will contact customer in next hour. No one called till 2 days. Finally I got called from them. They said you have sign the paper if leaks not got fixed you will change the shower tub. It means you don't have confident of your job or you work as try and error base. Charged almost $450.00 to make a joke. read more

I had a water heater installed today. Upon completion of the install, the house began to smell like gas. The techs told my mom (who was at my home during the install) that a gas valve was loose. The valve is located between the furnace & the Water Heater. They said they were not able to fix the valve. They didnt even take ownership that they could have possibly broke it or bumped it. They said the room smelled like gas when they arrived. My house did not smell like gas until they finished the job. They recommeded that we call Niicor. They left my house, I called Nicor. The smell of gas began to get stronger, my mom was very concerned. The Nicor tech arrived 30 minutes later & said we were very lucky it could have been a very dangerous situation!! The bottom line is that they left my home with my mom in the home in a very dangerous situation. I have filed a complaint with DRF for reimbursement of the Nicor service call. I have not heard back from them yet. I will not recommend them to anyone in the future! I am not one to complain. This is the first time I have never written a review about any business! Safety should be a concern when dealing with natural gas & apparently it wasn't. read more
