She helped me when I bought a property, worked as an employee, owned and rented property, sent my daughter to college and finally is helping me as I try to navigate opening a business. Do you like big surprises and really hard spankings? Do you enjoy confusion and humiliation? Are…read moreyou looking for someone to judge you and then send you a really big bill? Then Teena Takata is your new accountant! My experience with Teena was special right from the beginning. She dismissed all my questions by telling me she "doesn't keep that information in her head" and would charge me to look it up ("What's the income limit for a married couple to have a Roth IRA?"), or to go ask a lawyer. That was when she answered my questions at all. Twice, I asked her to estimate our tax bill with plenty of time before taxes were due... she didn't. Then, on April 14 at 7:00 PM, we got a text message to "write a check to the IRS" for almost $20K. I love surprises! Especially when I get to scramble to put a large sum together overnight, that's the peak of life experience! Most of my emails were answered with wonderful jabs at my intelligence without actually providing an answer, creating more emails, more questions and a higher bill. We got a bill for almost $6,000 for that year's tax prep! Super great! We had so many enlightening experiences with Teena, I particularly liked hearing about my character flaws throughout all that, so helpful. Teena Takata is awesome! For a fun, expensive tax time and truly excellent, professional-quality humiliation, there's no better accountant than Teena.

However this time around when I referred a friend of mine to Susan her associate Neda was given the work to do. Susan told him she will be "checking and supervising her work". She completely did his forensic accounting Inaccurately, causing him enormous harm as a result financially in his divorce case. She did return all his money because she basically ruined his divorce case. However, the damage she caused will affect him for a lifetime. She is not competent in this field.

In this economy, one would think that a new customer would be a delight for a business…read more I reached out to Susan Carlisle, letting her know that I'm a private real estate investor interested in establishing a new relationship with a CPA to discuss tax strategy and the response I was received was anything but welcoming. The first email I received was, "Amy.This is tax season. If you'd like to have your 2010 taxes prepared, please call my office for an appointment at your convenience. Thanks, Susan." OK yes, I get it, it's tax season. But I'm still interested in finding a CPA. So I replied to Susan letting her know my 2010 taxes are complete, but my motivations for making an appointment are to discuss my 2011 tax strategies. Her reply was, "Amy, I do consulting for divorce and accounting/tax for professionals and small business only. Susan" Well, OK, I am a small business, I explained. We're almost through Q1 2011 so I'm interested in making sure my business is set for the year. She responded saying, "Sorry, Amy. I'm swamped at this time." Not, "Thanks for reaching out to me". Not, "Oh I would love to, but can we meet in a few weeks?" Not "Gosh, I look forward to working with you, but I'm booked solid through May 1. Can we make an appointment in May?" I am glad I found out upfront that Susan conducts business in this way. Clearly, had we begun working together, the business relationship would have ended quickly if this is the way she treats her clients. So a few emails back and forth have actually saved me quick a bit of time on my journey to find a CPA. Sometimes I wish I had the ability to give 0 stars on Yelp. Even the most successful business or professional should treat potential clients with common courtesy and respect.
