My husband and I were impressed with our neighbor's landscaping work which was done by Dreamscape Designers. He was very satisfied with the design and his only complaint was that it took a long time to get follow up work - meaning, the work comes with a 1 year plant replacement warranty and it took forever to get someone to come back out to his property. We contacted Dreamscapes for a consultation. It wasn't easy to get in touch with anyone but after several messages we finally had an appointment with Tom, the designer and I believe the owner. We were very clear with Tom about challenges we faced maintaining our current flower beds (run off) and that we wanted whatever was done to be a design that was easy to maintain since we are an older retired couple. Work was scheduled to begin in early spring (March I believe) but there were many delays. The actual project started almost a month late. This meant that our current plants were in full bloom and not the best time to transplant them to other areas of the yard. The work crew, headed by Tyler was for the most part good folks. Tyler was excellent - polite and a great communicator. However, the crew was not dependable about showing up when they said they would. I don't fault the crew as they were assigned elsewhere. One of the biggest problems that arose as the work was coming to an end, was the fact that the design plan did not take into consideration the location of our irrigation system. Some of our sprinklers were hitting plants so hard it was killing the plants while others did not even reach the newly planted shrubs. We brought this to the attention of the LInda who runs the office. It took forever to get someone out to analyse the problems. It took even longer for someone to come out to do the work. By the time the work was done a number of plants had died and others were damaged to the degree they needed to be replaced. And by the way, this was an additional out of pocket expense for us. Don't designers take the irrigation system into account when they draw up their plans? And if not, surely the crew doing the work would realize the need and bring it to someone's attention so the work can be scheduled in a more timely manner. Eventually, we realized that no weed control fabric has been laid when the new beds were put in so grass is growing up between the rock boarders. When we asked about this, first Larry told us they put the fabric down. When I took pictures and sent them via email, I was then told, "we don't put weed control fabric down". What? What professional landscape company doesn't put down fabric to stop or slow weed/grass in these areas? As I pursued a solution, I was finally told by Linda that we have Bermuda grass and weed control fabric won't stop the grass from creeping into the rocks and beds. (However, we had done some work ourselves and weed control fabric worked well.) So, why didn't Tom explain that when we discussed his design plans? It takes constant calls or emails to get follow up. Larry may call and say he is coming out that day or the next and never shows up. Requests to speak with Tom are ignored. A month ago, Larry said he was returning the next day with the remaining plants to replace the dying or dead plants and "heavy duty" weed killer to take care of the grass growing in the rock borders and dry creek (a solution for not putting down weed control fabric before laying the rocks) Now, my emails are not even getting a response. As is standard practice, we made a down payment on the work when we signed the contract. We paid the remainder in full upon completion of the initial work. We have no leverage to get anyone back out to our home to make things right. This is not what we expected from a professional landscape company. Absolutely outstanding experience. Tom has decades of experience in design and installation of patios, decks, landscaping, and lighting. Their portfolio is very impressive. We went into this project with an open mind, looking for ideas. We just knew we wanted a fence around our backyard and some sort of patio. Tom sat down with us, reviewed our budget, and took a bunch of photos and measurements. He returned a couple weeks later with computer-generated models of his proposed plan. We went with it and we love it. We hired them again the next year for front of the house flower beds, installation of a flagpole (purchased separately), and landscape lighting. We have received numerous compliments on the appearance of our home. Our neighbors were so happy with our result that they hired them for almost the same project! As far as customer service, they are top notch. I had a question on the landscape lighting transformer, and I called to ask. They quickly sorted out the issue for me, and then called back the next day to make sure that the fix had been successful. While they came highly recommended even though they are a bit in high side, professionalism is also an important part of a business. Especially from the owner. Recently a family member called for an estimate. Due to his staff having Covid, the OWNER did the estimate. When he came back to update it he was advised that after an issue (completely unrelated to Dreamscape) with the boy that had given him the recommendation it would be best to not do business with them as it could cause a conflict of interest. The decision had just been made that morning. After explaining this to the OWNER he got visibly irritated and walk away using vulgarities like "fuck you." That is completely unacceptable from any reputable business owner or his employees ( expect they all speak Spanish). Could you imagine being in a contract with this man and going to him with a concern? Completely unprofessional. read more

Wow! Tom and the Dreamscape Design team are amazing! They totally transformed our front yard into a gorgeous new landscape that was even more beautiful and impressive than we could have imagined! Tom met with us and listened carefully to our thoughts and desires. He drew up an amazing design. The work was completed on schedule and a member of the team was in constant communication with us. We had several old trees, shrubs and tired plants removed and replaced with palm trees, cherry tree, many different shrubs and grasses, as well as perennials and annuals added. In addition, they freshened up our landscape rock & mulched the area. The landscape crew was very professional and a pleasure to work with. We are so pleased with the result! After my review, Linda with Dreamscape Designers reached out to my and apologized for the nonexistent follow up and presentation of the work I received. They had also informed me that Cristina was no longer with the company but it was not solely for the work I received. I am hoping that my situation was not the cause of her departure. In addition, they did offer to go over everything that I should have received and schedule another consultation. I thought this was very courteous of them especially being that they reached out to me several days after my review was posted. I had already completed my work so there was no need to at that point. I had just paid for a design consultation. I may use this company again if needed, hence the change in my review. read more

We wanted to extend our patio slab and Dreamscape give a free estimate and a timeline when they could do the work. The pavers they recommended blended well with our existing patio. Run far far away!! Don't be fooled by Tom's charisma. This company has been an absolute nightmare to work with. It all started with paver selection. The company is absolutely no help whatsoever in picking pavers unless you want the Eagle Bay pavers they are pushing. Tom then failed to order the selected pavers in a timely fashion. He sat at my kitchen table and said everything was in stock and took a $7000 payment. Two weeks later he texts stating some of our paver selections are no longer available. He made no effort at all to assist with identifying and or locating alternative pavers. To complicate matters he ordered the field pavers knowing we couldn't get the inlay pavers which made identifying and locating inlay pavers that complimented the field pavers even more difficult. I spent days on the phone with paver companies trying to find pavers. Calling paver companies hundreds of miles away from my house to try to locate two pallets of an inlay paver that would go with our field paver. Tom was absolutely useless. Then we find out a week or so later that Tom ordered nine pallets of the wrong field paver. The man is incompetent and a buffoon (his words that he used to describe himself for making such an error...and I would not disagree). Again, Tom made little to no effort in trying to rectify or correct the situation. All he did basically was complain that he was stuck with those pavers. Sorry pal. Your mistake. Your problem. I ended up having to find another paver company help me. They l ordered me nine pallets of the correct field paper and then we had to wait for them to be produced. I then had to have another paver company help me with an acceptable inlay paver. NIGHTMARE!! The job was not completed on time which impacted a planned celebration (our son's 10 year cancer survivor party). Tom was well aware of the planned date and we even pushed it back a month and still couldn't get the job completed on time. The job remains incomplete (landscaping hasn't even been started) almost a year later and we are left with a $20,000 paver patio installed/graded incorrectly causing massive drainage issues and standing water under our house. They acknowledged the error and have said it would be repaired. Now they refuse to respond to us forcing us to resort to the Better Business Bureau. They also refused to respond to the BBB which had closed the case due to failure to respond. Again I say run far far away. There are plenty of companies that do amazing work in Hampton Roads area. read more
