Our family enjoyed the MS State baseball team beating Tide this afternoon then enjoyed a delicious dinner together at Dreamland. The service was very good even though it did take a little longer than expected for the food to arrive at the table, and it was not busy. The rib tip sandwich with fried okra was very good. The pork sandwich and Mac and cheese got high ratings as well. Topped off with tasty banana pudding.

2 meat combo, beans, Mac and cheese and potato salad!

Went to the original cause I always do when in town but there was no power, so hesitantly went to the NP location based on the reviews being way lower. Not sure why the reviews are lower food was the same, all very consistent, place was large and newer but still had the open pots and smoke smell. Waitress was very attentive and quick, love the old place but this one is now an option also!

Don't go hungry. They are slow. I have been here 45 minutes still waiting on a rib plate. Don't know if it is good or not. I forgot I did get the bread in the first 20 minutes. Just noticed everyone around me had been served who came in after I arrived. What...is going on?

Everything about this place is amazing! The atmosphere is wonderful and authentic. The sports memorabilia on the walls really hits home because I am a Roll Tide fan!! The food is fantastic, no complaints at all. The server recommended the fries for my daughter and she loved them! We can't wait to come back!!! The service was so great!

In a world full of confusion and complications this menu makes the choice very simple when ordering. Very limited menu , only one choice of barbecue sauce but it works. In todays world of Buffalo Wild Wings where you can get 20 different choices of sauce for your wings it is amazing that this place literally only offers one choice of barbecue sauce. They have a dry rub that when I tasted it plain I thought it was awful, but when you mix it with the vinegar based barbecue sauce it completely compliments it and works amazingly. They also only offer one dinner platter , ribs. They offer sandwiches with chopped , chicken, pork or ribs ends and that's the menu, ribs or sandwiches. The chopped chicken sandwich was excellent, would have liked to try the pork.I can see how the sauce , spice , ribs and sandwiches can become craveable due to the unique flavor combinations. The sides were also really great, I had the Mac and cheese, beans and cole slaw. Beans were the least memorable, except for my wife and daughter on the ride home. The ribs were very good , large and meaty but a bit dry. I don't think they are seasoned, if they are not very much which is nice to allow the taste of the rib and the vinaigrette barbecue sauce. The deserts were good but not great , wife and daughter loved them . Definitely not the best barbecue or even close to the best I have had but a nice option in town, don't set the expectations too high!

    ooh it's so good

This place was great, I came here for the first team back in 2013, I was back here in the area getting ready for Bama's pro day, one of my coworkers said let's go to dreamland. This place didn't disappoint us. We started off with the Big Daddy Loaded House chips, they are awesome!! I then we got our entrees,, I ordered the Legendary BBQ sandwich with Mac and cheese, it was delicious. My coworker got the slab of ribs and sausage, the other one got the half chicken. The food was great, 5 stars for food! The service and ambiance was great. We need more of these around the country

So good. 1/2 rack ribs & pulled pork w/slaw. Mac n cheese too

Just eh. Overall living on its reputation. My meat was sooooo dry. The waitress could not have cared any less about helping her tables. She kept disappearing for like 12 min at a time....we started timing the 3rd time and it was 15 min. If you are passing through Tuscaloosa its better then a lot of the other options in town ( most are chain restaurants ) so there's that. I have eaten at the original and it was a legit 5 star experience. Close to Bama over the bridge and a right turn. Three point five stars is more accurate.

I stopped by Dreamland after the other place I tried to go to was packed. This was my first time to try this location, but I've had it several times from elsewhere. I walked in and there were a few people in front of me. We stood there for a few minutes before someone finally said that we could all sit wherever we wanted to. I sat down and ordered my drink and got a half slab of ribs. The food came out pretty quick. The waitress never came by to check on me or refill my water. Ribs were ok, but a little tough. I would probably stick with other barbecue restaurants or go to the original in the future.

I'm surprised to see this place rated only 3 stars currently. I'm no BBQ expert but found Dreamland immensely satisfying. Having the BBQ cookers with fires going inside the restaurant was really cool. The food was great especially the BBQ chicken sandwich I had. I can't speak for the ribs but the chicken was very tender and juicy which was impressive because it is often overly dry. I had a side of Mac and Cheese which was ok but secondary to the meat. Would definitely recommend for visitors to the Deep South looking to get some good BBQ.

The Brown Bag Restaurant in Northport has been a staple for good eats for as long as I can…read moreremember. I can't tell you how many times people have recommended it for lunch, yet I never managed to stop in and experience it for myself until today. My work schedule and the Bag's hours always seemed to clash, and since it's a bit off the beaten path, it stayed in the "out of sight, out of mind" category. Now, as I'm approaching full retirement, I finally had the time to swing by and see what all the fuss was about. Upon arrival, the first sign you're in the right place is the parking lot. It's packed, about like a blue tick on a hound dog. Stepping inside, don't expect anything fancy. The interior is old school with faded paint and a no frills setup. Your food is served in Styrofoam containers with plastic utensils. But that's part of the charm. Who needs fine china when you're filling your gizzard with good soul food? The place was full and I managed to grab one of the last open tables under the roof. I then waited for the waitress who was running laps across the dining area, taking orders, refilling drinks, checking out customers, and handling everything in between. If you come anywhere near lunch hour, don't expect Jimmy John's Freaky Fast service. You're here to slow down and enjoy the experience. When I ordered, I went with a catfish fillet, turnip greens, field peas, fried green tomatoes, a side of cornbread, and tartar sauce for the fish. The fried green tomatoes did not make it out with the order, but the waitress was very apologetic and adjusted my bill to a meat and two instead of a meat and three, which I appreciated. Now to the important part, the food. The catfish was hot, crispy, and perfectly cooked, not greasy at all, just honest, well done Southern cooking. The turnip greens and field peas were flavorful and comforting, exactly what you hope for in a place like this. The tartar sauce had a slightly sweet twist that I was not expecting, different from the traditional version, but surprisingly excellent. I will need a few more visits before I can fully put that into words, but it worked. Overall, now I understand the buzz. The Brown Bag delivers exactly what it promises, simple, hearty, well prepared soul food served without pretense. I will definitely be back, and now that retirement is on the horizon, I have got all the time in the world to wait on a good meal, unlike you working folks still rushing through lunch.

The building is classic roadhouse style--totally unpretentious with its sign and adverts plaster on the walls. The interior is the same, open seating and seats at the bar. The menu has broadened over the years, rather than just ribs, white bread and pudding, you can get a pork sandwich and chicken with a limited number of sides (the Mac and cheese is superior). The franchised Dreamlands are so different with a plethora of choices, more to the liking of the suburban south. If you like that, go for it. For my money, you can't beat the original. The ribs are charred perfectly and the service is old time South, friendly and helpful. You immediately feel at ease with everything and everyone around you. My friend and I both got the Country Fried Steak with the white gravy. Large serving, not over cooked the way a lot of places prepare it. Beef was tender with a light breading, making every bite a perfect combination of meat and breading. All side each of us had were favorable. I think the creamed corn will be one of my new "Go To" at Blue Plate. My friend order an appetizer of onion rings. They were definitely not from Sysco, they were very crisp with the perfect amount of breading. My only issue at Blue Plate is they only serve corn bread, and I'm not a big fan of corn bread, but this time I tasted theirs, and it was like potato chips, I keep going back for more. It was buttery and soft with the perfect amount of crust. My friend wanted to know when we're going back to Gordo. Said he could eat here every day.

Apparently, half the town had the same idea because the parking lot looked like a Bama tailgate minus the tents and the yelling. We walked in and found ourselves about twenty deep in line--but hey, that's how you know it's good. Thankfully, since it was just the two of us, we scored a table in about ten minutes. Others... well, they might still be waiting as I write this. It's been a while since our last visit, and I noticed the menu's slimmed down a bit--but honestly, the food's leveled up. I went with the blackened catfish, turnip greens, and creamed corn, and let me tell you, that creamed corn was off the chain. Hot, buttery, and so good it could make you forget your own name. Everything came out fresh, seasoned just right, and hit the spot like a dart in a bullseye. Now, let's talk about that complimentary cornbread. Fluffy, golden, and just sweet enough--it's the kind of side that could run for mayor and win. I'm proud of myself for showing a little restraint today and not asking for seconds. (Believe me, it took Olympic-level willpower.) Our waitress was hustling like a Bama walk-on trying to earn a scholarship--fast, friendly, and somehow always smiling. Service: A+. Prices? A little higher than I remember, but that seems to be the new normal for a meat-and-three these days. Only downside--we got seated right by the door. Every time it opened, we got a blast of fresh air and a few curious stares. Folks walking in got a front-row seat to us eating like it was the "Welcome to Blue Plate" exhibit. But when you roll in at peak hour, you take what you can get. All in all, great food, friendly folks, and a true taste of Northport hospitality--just next time, I might wear sunglasses so I don't feel like part of the lunchtime attraction.
