BRIDES BEWARE! I am in shock and disgust with how the owner…read moreof pipes canyon lodge has treated us. this is not how i wanted to feel or be treated on the days leading up to and after the most important day of my life. I honestly felt leading up to the wedding that our wedding was being held hostage. She nickeled and dimed us for everything and was dishonest. Its makes my heart hurt that we spent so much time and money on our wedding for Pamela (venue owner) to try and sabotage it! In addition the stove and heater didn't work inside the house and many of the bath towels had brown stains. Also beds where not comfortable. I also couldn't believe how many snakes I saw in the yard around the house. thank goodness no one was hurt. - The comment below by the venue owner Pamela just shows how unprofessional she truly is and if filled with lies. If you are looking for a wedding venue I suggest Sacred Sands or Pappy& Harriet's, you can have the amazing views and not the hassle/harassment from this owner.

When I looked at the photos on VRBO and Google (search "pipes canyon lodge wedding"), I was impressed by the 20 5-star reviews and the gorgeous weddings held at the property. In my mind, if this place is nice enough to be a wedding venue, it must be well worth $700+/night. At that price, I was expecting a 5-star property. It IS a charming house with a great layout, views, and amazing staff (see other VRBO reviews), but I left disappointed. Here's why: 1. It's dusty. REALLY dusty. Considering that the profile lists "low allergen environment" as a selling point, we were surprised to find that we couldn't even sit on the couch in the living room without having an allergy attack. There was a layer of dust on the lampshades and art in my friend's room and I woke up with a completely clogged nose and watery eyes when I slept on the twin beds. This place is in need of a serious deep cleaning. I suggest getting the living room couch and all bedroom throw pillows professionally cleaned and covering everything with bed sheets in between guests. 2. Rats outside. There were NONE in the house. However, one side of the patio was covered with rat droppings in the morning. From the porch, we watched rats scamper from one cactus to another. I would suggest putting rat traps on the side of the house to help with this. Our dog had to stay inside because she kept eating the rat droppings. 3. No black out curtains in the bedrooms. Ok, this is a desert house. The sun is in full swing by 6:30am every day. For the comfort of your guests, please hang up some black out curtains. Not everyone wants full sun at the wee hours of the morning. Considering the price we paid, it is not unreasonable to expect to sleep past 6:30am. 4. Great kitchen, but no staples. Sugar? Coffee? Napkins? Sponges? Nope! The kitchen had a very nice selection of pots, pans, and appliances, but we had to buy even the most basic items. When guests arrive at 7:30pm, it'd be nice to have some coffee available for that first morning. 5. Cigarette butts all around the yard and on the porch. It's a rental, I get it. I expected a "Non Smoking House" to clean that up.   6. Beat up furniture inside house. Beds gave us backaches. I paid a premium expecting a luxury rental or at least something nicer than my own house. May want to consider different pricing for weddings vs. families.

As soon as we visited Tumbleweed and met with Julie to discuss our vision, we knew it was the perfect place. The sprawling property has many different seating areas, space for game, indoor/outdoor space, and a nature walk for pictures that look as if you are in the middle of nowhere in the desert! There are so many different places to take BEAUTIFUL pictures, enjoy nature, and gather with friends and family. All of the furniture and decor provided is beautiful, modern, bohemian style that compliments the desert so well. The staff was incredible to work with to answer our MANY questions and coordinate our day flawlessly. During the planning process, we were able to visit the venue a few different times by ourselves, with our parents, and with our coordinator and the staff was always so welcoming, kind, and patient. The venue and staff are LGTBQ+ friendly and allowed us to convert the "male/female" bathrooms to "gender neutral" to accommodate all of our guests. Our family and friends all adored Tumbleweed and had such a fun time exploring the property, taking photos, and soaking in the beauty of the desert. I would highly recommend Tumbleweed Sanctuary, Garden, and Labyrinth for a wedding/ special event venue! I wish we could get married here again!! Photos: Eve Rox Photography

Outside the weather…read moreplaying a little nicer, I couldn't in my wildest dreams imagine having picked a better wedding venue. In my opinion, weddings are inherently one of the most capitalistic and borderline exploitative examples of soliciting real emotion for even more dollars. When everything comes at a premium because you attach marriage to it (cake cutting, flowers, catering, etc), you begin to have real fear for how the most expensive component of the whole thing, the venue - will play out financially and emotionally. Liz and Eric are people who are welcoming you into their home, not someone making a quick buck off providing you 4 walls to throw a party in. We instantly felt so incredibly comfortable with them, that we lingered around for a couple hours the next day and talked about the upcoming Game of Thrones series finale. Name a wedding venue where you're going to do that? Julia - the wedding planner is the perfect combination of straight-talking, to the point, hyper focused, but still inherently warm and lovely that you want for your planner. She doesn't waste your time, but she doesn't make you feel rushed or under stress whatsoever. This venue is not for the faint of heart, however. If being a little chilly, seeing a bug or critter or two can completely ruin your night, I'm not entirely sure why you chose a remote desert wedding in the first place (oh wait, probably for instagram). The desert is a rough, unforgiving, but ultimately rewarding place. If you write a 1 star review for seeing bugs in a remote desert locale, you have bigger issues than this venue. Our wedding went off without a single, solitary logistical hitch. The venue was by far the most beautiful venue I've ever attended a wedding at. The owners were the most laid-back friendly, couple I could've worked with. I never dreamed of having a wedding go so perfectly. I'd give you 6 stars if I could.

A big part of the reason we chose the venue, aside from its beauty, was that we could do whatever we wanted, which allowed for total creative control, as well as allowed us to be as spendy or frugal as we needed. We stayed on site for three days enjoying the property, which was really relaxing to myself, the bride, ok the day leading up to and the day of my wedding. The venue itself gives off an incredible energy and the sunsets (around cocktail hour), as well as the star lit sky at dinner was magical.
