First and foremost, if you are considering staying here, you should know that the prior owner, Carrie has sold the business to an LLC out of Colorado. However, the Desert Lily's website does not reflect this change. When you look at all of the reviews on Yelp/Trip Advisor/Google, you will note that Carrie's level of service is amazing. That was one of our selling points when choosing this place. It was disappointing. The positive of this place is that the location and views are AMAZING. About 2 miles out of the JT park entrance. Couldn't be more convenient. HOWEVER, the beautiful views and location is ruined by the service (or lack thereof) by the new owners. There is no employee on site on a regular basis. No one. So, you need help with the wi-fi? Need more towels? Have a question? You have to call the number listed, and leave a message, and you will get a text from a bot a couple hours later which doesn't help you at all. You don't get to talk to a real person unless they decide to call you, which didn't happen most of the time I tried to reach out. The website states that all of the cabins have wi-fi. That's one of the reasons we picked this place; we all had work to do. However, the wi-fi doesn't reach out to the cabins. And, cell service is spotty on premises (there were three of us in our group--they had ATT & Sprint--no luck for them. I had Verizon, which worked). So, even if you want to IG some amazing pics or just get your email and you don't have Verizon, you have to go to the main house which sucks. Another reason we picked this place was that the cabin listed had a grill we could use. There are very little dining options in JT, so we thought we would eat most of our meals in. The grill has got to be 30 years old, and is unusable. So that was a major bummer too. The cabin we stayed in (Biltmore) was functional, but needs a little TLC. Not expecting perfection whatsoever; however, one of the drawer faces fell off when we tried to pull it out. There's no screens on the upstairs windows; bugs abound at night and it got really stuffy up there. The cabin is probably 30+ years old, and it just needs a little face lift. It's cute and funky. We met another traveler who hadn't been provided the information when she arrived on how to get into her room. She rambled around the place for a few hours before someone got back to her. So, our experience wasn't unusual. The main house has a sign that says "ring bell for service" but no one answers. They need to take that down because it sets up expectations. As I told the owner, if I wanted an AirBNB, I would have booked one. However, I was given the impression that I was staying at a BNB. This is not a BNB. It's serve yourself. And the website, to this day, still bills itself as a BNB. About me: late 40s, low key and not high maintenance. Travel a lot. I know what's reasonable to expect, and what's unreasonable. The new owners need to do a better job communicating to their guests that they are on their own. read more

We stayed at the single house of The Desert Lily, located right In The Joshua Tree National Forest. This place is conveniently close to the event, King of the Hammers. This unique rental house offers the beauty of canyon desert, serenity, privacy, peace, and all the comforts of a home. What we like most here were the cleanness of the house, the decor/ furnitures of the house with many cool looking artifacts, lots of cactus plants in the surrounding desert scenery, and the close up wildlife. It's amazing to hear the howling so loud at night and to catch the glimpses of the coyotes. Our stay did not include breakfast but still, we were comfortable and happy with our stay. Highly recommended to anyone who are up for a desert adventure! My only advice is to get ready for an off road path to the house. Drive slowly and carefully! read more

Our first visit to The Desert Lily was in 2018 and we rented the Biltmore, then later that same year the Casa Rincón. We had wonderful stays and knew we wanted to visit again. Two years later, 2020/COVID-19 kept us and everyone else home bound and the minute it was good to get away, we did!! So glad we chose The Desert Lily and this time we went for the B&B. Carrie the hostess/owner really goes out of her way to make this unique place so special. I love her taste in decor!! She makes a great breakfast too!! The landscaped cactus garden is a real retreat, the desert truly has a way of helping us be present. This is a GREAT STAY! read more

Very poor experience. Booked our wedding at this venue. Ownership changed hands prior to our wedding, and no one from the new ownership would communicate with us or respond to our emails and calls. Our reservation was cancelled without notice after months of attempts to contact the new ownership. Anyone booking an event at this venue beware. read more

This was our very first B&B experience and it was an absolute delight from the moment we arrived. The proprietor, Carrie, was charming, fun and hospitable, just like the place itself. Our room was tastefully decorated and had all the extra conveniences we could think of -- even a spare backpack to use while hiking. The common areas were spacious and delightful -- none of the over-the-top cutesy decor for which I've heard B&Bs are notorious. Carrie bakes fresh cookies every day, and provides complimentary white wine, tea and sherry. The breakfasts were delicious. The other two couples staying there were great fun. Maybe we just lucked out, but I think this place has a vibe that attracts a certain kind of clientele. I highly recommend The Desert Lily if you're planning on exploring Joshua Tree. read more

The Desert Lily absolutely delighted me and it was the most perfect start to our vacation!! Even though Carrie touts her establishment as a B&B, and she does serve breakfast, it felt like a blend between a cozy Inn and your best friend's house. B&Bs in my eyes sound boring and stuffy and tacky and this is not. She has thought of everything and I greatly appreciate that! I'm an overpacker so I pretty much had it all covered, but she keeps items such as backpack, ice cooler, Navajo lap blanket, sunscreen, extra lotion, bug spray... you name it... it's in the room for your use if you forgot to pack it. The drive to DL was an adventure in of itself. Tucked into the middle of the desert and residential homes, the road is sand and dust and boulders. It was very fun (and still capable in my low BMW). The main shared living area is complete with books and chilled wine and all of the comforts of home. TIP: Carrie recommended Pappy & Harriets and we highly recommend this off-the-beaten bar/restaurant for lunch or dinner. Oh my goodness we loved that place!! Carrie will tell you how to get there. It's not too far. read more

This place is great. Awesome breakfast every day, and a really nice property. Other friendly people, mostly hikers and outdoorsy-types. The main area is open 24 hours a day and soft music is playing; no pressure to go to bed. There are no TVs in the individual rooms but I quite enjoyed that fact. ***IMPORTANT: If you are driving, bring a SUV or truck of some sort! It's on a SUPER bumpy dirt road, not conducive to most city cars! Big dips.**** read more

we had a really nice time...... Alas, there doesn't seem to be any actual Bed and Breakfasts left! If there was a difference between b & b and Air BNB, I couldn't find it. This was my only complaint. It's our first time at Joshua Tree NP and staying at The Desert Lily definitely made it a memorable experience. We hope to come back again!

Great venue for a wedding. We worked here atleast 3-5 times these past 2 years and enjoyed the ambiance, the bar area and the venue owner was very pleasant to work with . - Amit (mint bartending) read more

I would give zero stars if that were an option. My wife and I stayed in one of the B&B rooms. I would not recommend this to anyone. The rooms are tiny, too small to open a suitcase anywhere except on top of your bed. Only a small stand up shower and both room and bathroom are so small after a shower both rooms turn into a sauna. No host/hostess was ever seen. No breakfast was provided. Room was not made up between nights of stay. No TV in common space or in room, not a big deal to my wife and I but it would have been nice to catch local weather/news in the morning. There was no coffee available in our room or in the common space. We left after one night because the stay was so bad even though the owner refused to refund our money for the second night. You can get better service and accommodations at a motel in the area for 1/3 to 1/2 the price. My wife and I have never had a bad experience at a B&B before this stay, but we'll reconsider any B&B after this. read more

My husband and I stayed here two weeks ago and had a wonderful time. Our first night was a bit akward as our bed was broken, however we didn't realize it until we climbed in to go to sleep. The following morning my husband mentioned to Carrie that there was something very wrong with the bed. She said she'd look into it. We went on with our day on the Park. Upon retuning later that afternoon we found Carrie and her neighbor replacing our bed with a new one. Turned out the old one had broken. So our second night was perfect! Carrie's an amazing cook, and (obviously) a great Hostess, with enviable artistic flare! She has much inspiration to draw from, which you'll discover when you look out the windows in the morning and seeing the sunrise over the hills! She keeps her property clean and inviting and I can't wait to return! Thanks again Carrie! Hugs! :) read more

My love and I stayed at The Desert Lily and had the most delicious and romantic weekend! We spent one night in a cozy b&b room that was clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed: a fresh bottle of water on the night stand, extra blankets, a flashlight for finding our way, books on Joshua Tree, and a backpack and hats to borrow if needed. Carrie has created a very special sanctuary with her unique decorative touches, and each room is unique. We spent the second night in the Biltmore Bunkhouse because the b&b was sold out, and one night was night enough. Waking up in this exquisite desert was magical, and we saw jack rabbits hooping around the property. We were especially lucky because it snowed the day before we arrived, so we got the rare opportunity to walk on snow and marvel at the snow capped mountains all around us. To make the morning even more incredible, Carrie made the most delicious homemade breakfast. We enjoyed sitting around the dining room table getting to know the other guests, and appreciating the gifts of the desert, and this wonderful place. We already started planning our return trip to venture into the park, and see Carrie again! If you are looking for an ideal respite, I can not recommend The Desert Lily highly enough! Oh, and there is also an incredible wedding venue here that truly made me want to get married again! Thank you Carrie for an absolutely perfect weekend, you made it so! read more

I guess one could say I'm not your typical traveller, my best friend and I took a sisterhood weekend to celebrate our birthdays and get away from our busy lives. I was sort of disappointed when I realized there was no pool ( i got it confused with another place) and the room was smallish. But that's a mea culpa, I was cranky, tired, and hungry, and not very receptive to our gracious host Carrie. But aside those 2 little things, The Desert Lilly lives up to it's name. The room was gorgeous, comfy, and had air conditioning and thankfully no t.v.to keep us from Exploring the local area. Carrie rents out 3 private rooms and a few little houses, each room has a kiva chimenea out on the cute little porch and a nice table to sit and sip wine. She keeps each room stocked with comfy robes, personal care supplies, games and magazines. The "big room" is an open area for guests where she keeps wine, home-made cookies, dishware, games, and local info for guests. It's a great comfy place to eat and lounge and share drinks with other guests. Carrie is a warm, welcoming hostess preparing snacks and chatting with her guests as well as making reccomendations for a special trip. SHe has "meditation rooms" availible to lounge, read, burn incense, meditate and give her guests extra privacy. If you just want to spend time quietly on your own, let her know, don't be ornery like I was. Carrie's a good cook and I really enjoyed her nouvelle California huevos rancheros. Coming from a Mexicana that's pretty good. Her chocolate chip cookies, and port are a smash! Bottom line, if you like meeting new laid back people, travelling like you're in an International style pensione but with a warmer, colorful Joshua Tree feel, this is a place for you. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this place! read more

I did a lot of research on hotels and B&B's in the area before booking and, after reading the reviews for this place, I was very excited for my stay in the Biltmore Cabin. The former owner Carrie sounds amazing. About three weeks before our stay, we received notification from the new owner that we were now required to sign a rental agreement and pay the total balance up front or our reservation would be cancelled even though we had paid the deposit. During our drive down, we called and texted the new owners several times because we wanted firewood there when we arrived. We were previously told that firewood would be made available. Our multiple texts and calls were not responded to a prompt manner. This would be the theme for the trip. Upon arrival, we discovered that the internet does not reach the cabin. This was a very important requirement as I had to take work with me. Luckily, I had my hotspot with me otherwise we would not have had internet. One night the wind was blowing really hard and I accidentally got locked out. It was about 10pm on a Sunday night. It took about an hour for the new owner to call us back. In the meantime, there was a medication issue and we had called a locksmith. The new owner agreed to pay for the locksmith but, after we left Joshua Tree, the new owners tried to back out of this agreement. Multiple texts had to be exchanged before the new owner decided to keep their promise. This cabin is incredibly cute and the views are amazing but the beds are really old and need to be replaced. There are several things in the cabin that probably need to be upgraded. Its all about managing expectations. I expected to stay in a B&B with someone onsite. This did not happen. There is currently no one on site and our multiple calls and texts to the new owners were not responded to in a timely, professional manner. I would not stay here again or recommend this place to anyone. read more

The Desert Lily is lovely, clean and located about as close as you can get to the main entrance of Joshua Tree Nat'l Park. The host was thoughtfully engaging and breakfasts were fabulous. read more

Here are the bullet points: - Rooms: Cozy and clean. There were also plenty of clean towels, robes, guide books, a backpack, slippers, and extra pillows. The rooms also have an air conditioner built in, which we didn't use but it was nice to know it was there if we needed it. - Hospitality: Carrie, the innkeeper, was very welcoming and friendly. She also cooked us a delicious breakfast the morning after we stayed. - Amenities: Freshly baked cookies and port are included. - Price: Very reasonable. Cheaper than other options in the area. - In summary: Great place to stay at a reasonable price. read more

Amazing getaway! My wife and I were a bit reluctant to go to a bed & breakfast but Carrie was so hospitable and kind that she made our two day vacation a true delight. From the comfy bed to the refreshing shower our room felt like a home away from home. Not to mention the delicious breakfast!! Carrie made a triple berry stuffed French toast with two slices of bacon. Fresh coffee and tea ready too! Definitely coming back. To those complaining about the return policy: this isn't a best western. This is a beautiful home offered to the public for a reasonable fee. So don't treat it like a hotel franchise that can afford returns! read more

Hands down one of my husband's & mine favorite B&B. Carrie, the Inn keeper is AMAZING. Such a peaceful place...I like the fact that you can relax in the main house, by the fireplace, while listening to the soothing music she has playing in the background. Let me NOT FORGET how accommodating Carrie is...she has fresh baked cookies at all times (& they are DELISH!), chocolates, & even wine! In addition, she provides marshmallows, graham crackers, & chocolate for s'more making by the AWESOME fire pit outside (where she also has fire wood & a box with a lighter & paper to get the fire started)...star gazing is phenomenal & she has thought of everything one can possibly need. As for the breakfast...YUM, YUM, YUM!!! We have been there twice now & that will always be our go-to place in Joshua Tree! Thank you Carrie for such an awesome stay! read more

If you want a home away from home while you are exploring Joshua Tree, Carrie Yeager & The Desert Lily B&B are it. What a relaxing way to travel! It is basically just like visiting a good friend. The B&B has a great living room stocked with music, snacks, drinks, wine and a back yard for wandering. It does not have a pool and because of B&B ordinances you can't exactly prowl around the kitchen appliances and cook yourself a late night snack, but everything else is there. From loaner backpacks to water bottles as well as a wealth of knowledge about the local area and free wi-fi there isn't much else to ask for. Breakfast is relaxing and timed nicely so you can either sleep in or head off for sunrise at the incredibly nearby Joshua Tree National Park and be back for a relaxing breakfast. But you're always welcome to turn the coffee pot on early so I was fully equipped with a thermos of coffee when I went to brave the dawn but was still back in time for some innovative cuisine. I'll be back there again for sure. read more

The Desert Lily B&B is a romantic little compound located just minutes outside the west gate of Joshua Tree National Park. There are several guest rooms in the main building and two self-contained cottages nearby. The owner Carrie lives on premises and is available to lend assistance, as needed. We stayed in one of the guest rooms in the main building. It was a small room, but very comfortable. Carrie has done a wonderful job decorating the rooms and the common areas, using many examples of folk art and native plant species. We stayed at this property for two nights. Each morning we enjoyed a gourmet breakfast, thoughtfully prepared and served with a healthy dose of good cheer and pleasant conversation. We are looking forward to our next trip to Joshua Tree NP and plan to return to Desert Lily when that time comes. read more

Karma lent us a hand when we ended up at the Desert Lily Inn on the weekend of October 8-10, 2010. We had actually made reservations at another B&B in the area, but they were somehow lost when we called to confirm, and it left us scrambling to find a place to stay with only a week until our trip was to start. That's why I think it was fate, or magic, or some cosmic force that pointed my girlfriend Christina and I toward the lovely Carrie Yeager and her equally wonderful bed-and-breakfast, the Desert Lily Inn. Our trip to Joshua Tree had three purposes: first, Christina and I enjoy astronomy, but had never had a chance to take our telescope to an area away from Los Angeles and its light pollution. Second, Christina had never been to the fascinating Mojave desert area of Southern California (and it had been years since my last visit). Third, we just wanted to get out of town together for awhile! We knew exactly what we didn't want in terms of a place to stay. We didn't want some generic multi-floor hotel. We didn't want to stay in some dump on Highway 62. What we did want was a peaceful place that had vibe and personality, and the Desert Lily is oozing with it! First, it's a few miles off the highway. You cruise a couple of dirt roads that undulate over hills and through cacti and yucca trees before you pull into the Inn (be sure to follow Carrie's directions closely; she thoughtfully emailed them to us before our trip). It's location actually makes it all the more convenient to get into the Park; the western entrance is only two miles up the road. Carrie's breakfasts are phenomenal! This isn't some "grab some toast and cereal" place. The two mornings we awoke there, Carrie's food was outstanding, and included a stuffed french toast and a "breakfast pizza" on phyllo dough that you have to experience to believe. Another nice aspect of this place is that Carrie keeps wine, freshly-baked cookies, tea, coffee and chocolates out in the main room for the guests to enjoy at all hours. When we wanted to get a good dinner, Carrie not only made us a good recommendation but also saw that we got a reservation on a busy Saturday night with almost no notice. That's service! While you won't find a room with HBO or a mini-bar (in fact, you won't find a TV anywhere on the premises), our room was decorated nicely in a contemporary southwestern fashion, and had good air conditioning and a small but functional bathroom and shower. Everything was clean and comfortable, and the nights were quiet with nothing interrupting our sleep. Since it's unlikely you'll be staying in your room much during your visit, it's probably not a big consideration regardless. Being in the midst of the desert, the Desert Lily is surrounded by wildlife. Expect to see lizards scampering around, desert quail walking in troops along paths, dozens of hummingbirds hovering around the plants, and bunny rabbits hopping around the property. Expect to hear the howls of coyotes from much closer than you'd anticipate each evening. If you're squeamish about a little dust and grit (or perhaps a few desert bugs), you might consider some place more antiseptic... but if so, why are you going to the high desert in the first place? The Desert Lily is a fine representation of the funky, kooky area that is Joshua Tree, and while it's not at all your typical hotel, it's meant for atypical people. We found it exciting, romantic, charming, and unique... exactly what we wanted for this trip! I recommend the Desert Lily very highly, and Christina and I are already planning a return trip. If you love nature and funky-cool surroundings with warm and friendly people, all at very affordable pricing, this is your place. read more

Caroline, the inn keeper is a a very harsh person. We planned for months a trip to Joshua tree for a romantic weekend getaway. A reservation was made originally over the phone. We were corresponding over email several times. Because I am a physician in the middle of escrow on a house I had to make a couple changes to our original plan. The changes were made over email well within the 2 wk cancellation policy. Evidence of this was provided to Carrie when she claimed an email was never sent regarding a change to Sat/Sun rather than Fri/sat/sun. She refused to acknowledge this even though there is concrete evidence of the email being sent. She said regardless of this "I am on the hook for friday". As I attempted to compromise this she cancelled our reservation completely. She ruined our weekend and being a very busy doctor this vacation is what I rely on to release stress. Our last conversation discussing this she rudely hung up on me. I do not recommend this place and I wish that all people realize that this person has a strange evil side. Beware read more

Buyer beware of this Owner/Innkeeper. She cancelled my reservation today after accepting it earlier in the day. I have her confirmation e-mail. After selecting the Quail Haven cabin I was bounced 2 times to other cabins before she cut me loose. She agreed to waive the 2 night minimum for a Tuesday night. She called to cancel saying "the owner" did not accept the reservation. I am very upset that I have to suffer her change of mind and there is nothing I can do about it. Not cool. read more

My boyfriend and I had a wonderful, relaxing vacation here this past weekend. The room was clean and the place is very cute - fire pit in the back, hammock under the stars, cute property way off the beaten path, the only sound the occasionally howling wind or crickets. The food was AMAZING. Carrie is an amazing cook - she killed it with the strawberry stuffed french toast. She respects your privacy and is really laid back and sweet. I think the two negative reviews about Carrie seem a bit overdramatic. Carrie had two opportunities to be less than pleasant when we 1.) were told we should arrive between 4-6 and came in around 1am instead (we had a late work day and a long drive from LA, but we let her know ahead of time that we'd be checking in late so she simply left us our room key and a welcome letter). 2.) Boyfriend lost the room key and panicked that we wouldn't be able to get in but when we texted Carrie she was totally cool about it and helped us get in promptly. The thing people don't always understand is that a B & B is not a hotel, it is someone's home, and therefore more respect and care is required by the host and tenant. You gotta clearly read the rules and the cancellation policy and as long as you are communicative and ask questions when you aren't sure whats on and off limits everything will go smoothly. I found Carrie to be a lovely person with some serious world wisdom. I should also mention she fresh baked cookies every day and they were soooo good. read more

The cabins and Desert Lilly B & B are very close to the park entrance. Location, location -as they say. The Joshua Tree hiking is the big draw for the area and we really did not want to do conventional motel in nearby town. In order to have separate two beds a cabin was the only option. How lovely to hike around all day in the park, to return to a outdoor patio with a gorgeous view overlooking the hills, delicious private label wine (courtesy of the innkeeper, Carrie Yeager), and engaging conversation with the other 2 guests staying there and the innkeeper herself. If you seek more privacy - no worries...this will be respected. There are great guide books on loan and even a small backpack and sunscreen provided for our hikes in the park. The house was spacious, inviting, clean, and quiet and there was no need to go anywhere else, other than the park. I was thankful for the lack of florally curtains and cutesy typical B&B paraphernalia. I looked at a lot of other places in or around Joshua Tree and this is the only one I would recommend. The first night my husband and I were there, we were so relaxed we never made it out for dinner, but alas, Carrie shared with us 2 tamales she bought and couldn't finish. Washed down with some good wine, and later, some port. After that, we were lulled to bed by howling coyotes. And I can't compliment Carrie enough on her cooking...For breakfast on day one she made a healthy version on huervos rancheros (veggies, cheese, sausage, and all sorts of great things), alongside yogurt and fresh fruit, coffee, juice, and OJ. Day 2 was lemon ricotta pancakes with some delicious jam to top it off, with the yogurt and fruit as a first course. read more
