I used to love this place, but I've had a frustrating experience lately. Out of nowhere, it seems like they are trying to price gauge. I've been here many times without any issues with pricing; it's always been straightforward. Last night, when I went with a friend, a new guy I've never seen before tried to charge us $30 per person, claiming that they have a weekend price. I asked him where that was stated, as I just scanned the menu and didn't see anything about this increased price. I felt it was unfair. I told him I would pay whatever he demanded, but you can't have different prices for different days without clearly informing customers. Fortunately, the owner, who is a nice guy, came over and said that we didn't have to pay that amount. Honestly, the situation upset me. It feels like they are trying to take advantage of customers. Last night might have been my last visit there. It's a great place, but just be prepared to pay whatever they say. read more

Dream Hooka formally North Park Hooka has been revived. The place as you can see from previous reviews had a bad reputation. However through new owners the place has been come back to life. The atmosphere is very lively with great seating arrangements. Hooka Flavor of all kind, think of a flavor and they'll make it! The service is exceptional they make you feel right at home and make sure you have a good time! It's BYOB which is great when coming with friends or if you're enjoying a drink alone. The house vibe they have curated is very welcoming. Been coming here for years and will continue to do so. Definitely worth checking out if you're new or a seasoned hooka enjoyer. read more

Few months back on the way to Carthage Cafe, we stopped by to just check out the scene. The manager gave us a card for a free hookah on the next visit. We needed an hour to kill, so we decided to cash in on the voucher recently. So they said the voucher was valid. We didn't want to be total leechers so we ordered 3 red bulls and the one hookah for the five of us. When we went to pay for our order, the tab was $26. We did a double take because we thought we just had to pay for the drinks. They charged us $9 for the red bulls, which is an acceptable mark up (although, I'm pretty sure the menu said $2/ red bull). Then they claimed that the hookah was free ($9) and 2 people were credited ($10), so we had to pay $5 p/p for the other 3 guests. So you're saying if we didn't have the voucher, our tab would be something like $43 for one hookah!!! That's total B.S.!!! Some places like the House of Hookah require that there is a 3 person max/ hookah. Which is totally fine because we would have at least got two hookahs for the same price at North Park. What was even more unsettling was the hookah was horrible. It was too heavy and harsh, with absolutely not a trace of fruit flavor. I'm a pretty even keel guy, but that night I just wanted to trash their $25 speaker system hidden behind the curtain. When you listen to bose audio at home and have to listen to audio worse than my laptop for an hour, and then get underhanded, that would drive you mad too! read more

North Park Hookah was the first Hookah place I'd been too. I liked the laid-back atmosphere and that it was always small and intimate. The owner, Sam was always really friendly and personable. They had a lotion that you rubbed on your hands to accentuate the hookah flavors. The downside-it closed pretty early. In fact, I see the owner at this other hookah place after he's done. In winter it can get pretty cold, because you're sitting on the floor and whenever someone comes in a blast of cold air rushes at you and since you're not wearing shoes it just shoots through you. The early close time is my only real beef though, for a hookah bar anyway. read more

After the initial feeling that I could get Hep A (at least) from just standing in that place, we decided to stay. The place was "glorious" -- dumpster couches, mosquito nets to bring you closer to the Middle East, hip hop magic from 2000's, and an albino spider trying to escape for god-knows how long. A stoned sweatpant-wearing man-child gave us menus, informing us that most of the hookah selections are no longer available. We asked for him to make his favorite. He returned, not sure what the hell he mixed in there, but I am fairly certain that it was Windex, because that's what it tasted like. Once we finally decided to leave, because a fresh new batch of 18-year olds showed up, this little stoned asshole tried to charge us 20 bucks per hookah, when the menu clearly stated 13.95. Oh my goodness, is all I can say, initially I was all excited as after checking the place out, a month or so ago, I went in with Luan N, asked a couple of Q's about how much and times of opening, I think the guy that I spoke to was either the manager or the owner, his name was Patt, he was helpful to be truthful, friendly, and told us to come back, he even gave us a card with a free hookah voucher on it...nice!! Ok, so now came the visit to cash in the free hookah, ok this was the deal, there were 5 of us, and we ordered x3 Red bulls, the total came to a whopping $26 holy crap, thats some expensive red bull. According to the Staff, we were charged, $5per person and only x3 of us were charged, and the red bull was $3 per person, so total including tax it came to $26 with the discounted hookah... I've been to a couple of hookah joints in Chicago, and this place takes the biscuit, and the tin and the shoes off my feet, it was just ridiculous. The hookah itself was oookkkay..nothing special, supposedly it was the house special called the "red line," a mix of raspberry, strawberry and cherry, to be honest I tasted a hint of strawberry and that was it. Not too impressed to be honest. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the place was a little dark, with "black" light so a novel atmosphere and all you can see is glowing teeth and white clothes. I first visited this place some years ago, when they used to treat you to the sweet-smelling hand potion, and the owner was actually around to socialize with the frequent patrons, such as myself. The music was always nice, chill, passive, and on topic (middle eastern). The black lights were a hit with the high school crowd, and the shoes off policy imbibed some cultural awareness in the average bubbled-in teenager. The place received some nice wall treatments, even some painting, and the hookahs were top of the line, as well as well maintained. Fast-forward to today, the only people working the place are a handful of greenhorns who value time spent smoking with their buddies over serving the paying-customers. Granted, if you ask them for something, they'll do it, but it'd be nice to see some initiative every now and again. The music system is now everyone's personal player, so whoever is tight with these 'workers' (relative term since they mostly sit) gets to blast their blood-curling playlists whilst we try to enjoy some culturally loaded conversations over some now half-decent narghilea. Yes, it does get cold inside in the wintertime. And yes, you do have to sit on the floor, but I wouldn't have it any other way. read more

This place right here is my go to. I've been here any day from Mon-Sun. Sam the owner is awesome definitely knows how to make someone at home. Nick, The Great One is just as chill. In just a two block radius there are three different Hookah Bars to hit up, and I am a fiend, NP is always my first of choice. There are only two couches but a large choice of floor cushions. No rap isn't always playing they can play whatever so try to stay open minded. This place doesn't exactly offer food, just like Carthage they seem to only offer drinks. Definitely come by on a weekend night. Prices aren't as cheap but I think they've earned they keep enough to have them raised. read more

When my boyfriend and I walked into this place, we were scared. It was really dark, the hard seats on the floor were uncomfortable, the carpet was missing on certain areas which made the place look dirty and the screaming group of college guys made the experience worse. Also, they had ghetto music playing. We only stayed for about 30 minutes because we were SOOO uncomfortable!!!!! North Park was awesome! I went with a friend of mine and we both agreed that North Park awesome customer service. They would check up on us to make sure everything was going good. The hookah was good, we tend to try new hookah flavors everytime we go to a hookah bar. So we were happy on that. The music was good and the design of the area was cool. The seating was different from what we were normally use to but a change is always good. The lights were interesting which I liked. I say to try this place out! The interior was really cute- dim with black lights, cushions on the floor, drapy fabrics. The clientele/staff seems to be completely North Park University Students. The ambience would have been perfect except it really would have benefited from some MELLOW music instead of Korn and "Smooth Criminal" blasting from a computer. Definitely worth checking out. The staff is friendly and helpful. Get to know them. The tobacco is hand mixed just for them and, while not as sweet as starbuzz or some other shish, it is much much better. Seating is on pillows on the floor and sections are divided by this curtains and light by dim lights. Those complaining about the price... don't go with a big group. Keep it to three and it is totally reasonable. I've been coming here for a couple years and look forward to it every time. Come, have fun and smoke some tasty hookah. I actually made a yelp account just so I could comment on this dreadful place. Never in my life have I been anywhere so lame. We decided to come to North Park Hookah Lounge instead of our usual one on Clark to try something new and to save money. The set up at this lounge is just one room in the front of the building. The decor is completely mixed theme, not a good ambiance for a hookah environment... comes across more as a mess. Our server recommended our flavors, which we could barely taste. By doing this, he charged us for 'specialty flavors' just to make more money. He did the same in recommended the most disgusting drink I have ever tasted [not alcoholic because this is in a dry district]. The servers were running around and pulling up chairs to smoke with their buddies. We ended up paying just as much as we did at a really nice, relaxing place on Clark which had private smoking rooms and more than one bathroom. I could not believe this. This added up still isn't as bad as the music: Nickleback, Stacy's Mom, old Blink 182? Are you kidding? How is that at all good hookah lounge music? Not to mention it was BLASTING. This place is really bad. Im not sure how they are alive. You go in there and its like your in jail you can't do anything with the hookah unless they do it for you. The people there are out of place. I don't think any college students would go there. They are really rude there and hookahs are expensive. They do whatever they want there not even caring if your there.. North Park Hookah is a great hookah lounge. I have been too a few around the Chicago Area and this one is by far the chillest hookah lounge. Pros- -The atmosphere is great, very chill and relax yet on Saturday nights it get pretty crazy and fun as well, Sunday's you can come in relax after a hard weekend and kick back -The service is great, all the workers are very helpful and quick with their service -The sheesha is pretty good quality, the owner Sam makes it and stocks it him self so everything is fresh -The price is not too expensive its about 5 dollars a person, so if you have 4 people its 20 bucks and you get 2 hookahs -The music is different all the time, it goes from Atmosphere(rap)-to Dave Mathews to Explosions in the Sky, to Green day Cons- -In the winter it gets a little chilly with the door opening and closing but its not too bad -The size is a little small, it is narrow but long read more

It's really chill and laid back it's not all fancy and organized with tables and things of that sort as if it is franchised or something. Went here for part of a bachelor party. The owner (Sam) was extremely hospitable and all the workers were more than willing to accommodate us. It's a BYOB which is really nice, and we didn't have any cups or ice so they ran across the street to a gas station to buy our group cups and ice. The hookahs are 2 hose only so if you're in a bigger group you may need multiples. The workers would walk around and have their own hookahs with their own flavors and would let us try them and then they would do smoke tricks which was neat. I couldn't be happier with the service or the hookahs (they were all delicious). read more
