It's early spring, and the question arises again: "Which maple syrup farm will we visit this time?"…read more "Maple Weekend" is an annual event where maple sugar producers open their doors to the public. It's a fun, educational and, of course, sweet time for everyone. Wolf Maple Products Farm was the perfect destination. There was something for everyone. It's definitely a great place for families with children. With a small playground, petting zoo and tractor rides, your kids won't be bored. For us, just being in the countryside was cool. Of course, buying a jug of maple syrup is a must. We also had warm, freshly made maple cream glazed donuts. To make that not enough, we covered each bite with maple soft serve ice cream. It was sweet heaven:). The place is not particularly huge and was rather crowded. The lines to the food section or the tractor ride can be long. But you're outside enjoying the fresh spring air, taking your time to do anything. The weather was perfect, which obviously helped. Next year, check out their Facebook page for more details. They really have a lot to offer.

There were plenty of vendors selling seasonal goods, crafts and antiques. There were plenty of reasonably priced pumpkins of all shapes, colors and sizes being sold as well . Just a very cute little festival that I would attend again . There were food vendors with many delicious seasonal foods to try. The apple sausage is back and said to be very good ! Amish baked goods were delicious, chowder , salt potatoes , apple cider slushes and much more . The highlight of the center is the simulator, which begins with the audience sitting on benches listening to an actor portraying the architect behind the Flight of Five locks. He describes the canal construction process and the unique features of the Lockport portion of the canal before the screen partially retracts, leading the actor to beckon the visitors onto a mock-up of a packet boat. Once aboard, the screen closes again and a new video features one a canal worker describing the working of a lock as the video gives the impression of the boat rising. As the lock doors open, doors open in front of the boat so that visitors may step off and enter the exhibit space. Most of the exhibits are interactive, with buttons for children to push and little quizzes based on canal knowledge. There are some photographs of the canal under construction as well as a framed certificate from the Canal Collector's Office. The third floor houses the Charles Rand Penney Collection of historic Niagara County artifacts, which will be of great interest to those who enjoy local history. It is the one spot not designed primarily for children, but older children should be able to find some interest in the artifacts. After going through the museum, one can take a self-guided walking tour around Lockport by following Riley's Way: a map located in the discovery center. It's a fun place to have a day trip and a must-visit for those collection National Parks cancellation stamps.
