My mother took her watch in to have the safety chain repaired. It is a 14 karat white gold watch. The chain had popped off. When she picked it up, the Draper's jeweler had replaced the chain with a copper chain (verified by another jeweler -- Seine's). Then they charged her $20! So they stole the actual 14k gold chain, gave her a copper one and charged her for their stealing! I tried to get her to call the owner. She is still considering this option since she knows the owner. read more

I'm not intimidated when I walk in, as I am at other jewelry stores--I'm usually a bit of a bull in a china shop and I think retailers notice this! They have a nice selection of watches, diamonds, pearls, and lots of pewter gifts. I tend to buy wedding and baby gifts here--pewter gifts, silver rattles, wine bottle stoppers, all engraved--they will do the engraving for pretty cheap too! I was hesitant of Draper Jewelry because of all of the bad reviews. However after I spend time there, it has been the best jewelry buying experience I've ever had. They were so kind, they remembered my name and the workers were consistent so that I knew who they were. I bought a wedding band for my wife from here and they gave me multiple options, even crafting a personalized one and helped me pick the best option. I was never pressured to buy but was asked what I was looking for. The ring had some problems but Draper fixes it FREE of charge! I am not writing this review to be malicious, simply to put my review out there to hopefully help someone else not have to go through what my husband and I did when dealing with Draper's for our wedding rings. Our situation was unique, we had about 7 weeks from the placing of the order to the wedding date (he's foreign), so I know we put them under the gun right from the get go. However, communication was poor, I was called in a few times, once for someone else's ring because they got the names switched, and a few other times because no one but the person I worked with seemed to have any clue about our situation. Our wedding week came and the rings finally came in. Somehow they got my parent's house number and called there instead of my cell phone, but anywho, our rings were absolutely the opposite of what we wanted. Wrong materials, wrong size, and terribly designed. I would have been embarrassed to give that to a customer of mine, expecting them to be ok with the end result. After a minor breakdown in the store, the I believe owner, told me they'd overnight a new plain band for me to use for the wedding and a new band in exactly the style my husband wanted. Mind you, it took 7 weeks to create the first poorly designed one... At least they were nice enough to let me use a sample band for the wedding. It was fake though, so it turned my finger green on my wedding day. We had to go to a big chain store though to find a band for my husband to use the day of. I came to Drapers because of the reputation and the history of their rings in my family (we've all gone to Lipscomb, and it's right across the street), but I'm not sure I will ever come back to use them for anything. I have used Draper's about ten times since I've lived in Nashville, not for jewelry, but mostly for wedding and anniversary gifts and specialty silver items. Just about every time, I've had them engraved, and I can safely say that their gifts stand high above most. They also work on a quick time table which is nice for ADD last minute folks like me. They have a lot of choices and sizes of different vases, trays, knick knacks, etc. Most of it is also the newer wash and use silver as compared to the old style polish polish polish stuff. The people that work in there are always so helpful and kind. It is an old school shop and reminds me of a small town jewelry store. I promise by selecting one of their gifts, you are making the wise and proper choice a la etiquette and classic style. Let somebody else give the towels or china, you need to give a "wow" gift. Give it from here. I'm sure their jewelry and watches are as excellent as their service and silver! read more

When it was time to look for our wedding rings Husband and I wanted to avoid the stupidness that is corporate jewelry stores. Not to mention the mall rent inflated prices. And on top of all that you will never hear the lie that all white gold is rhodium plated at Drapers. They don't even sell the rhodium plated crap. At Drapers you will find decent prices for more than decent merchandise. Not to mention a friendly staff that is more than happy to help you with whatever you need. This is also a great place to buy wedding and graduation presents. They have beautiful silver jewelry boxes and picture frames that make a very special gift especially if you have them engraved. read more

I dropped my diamond engagement ring off on a Thursday and said it would be ready mid next week. By the following Thursday, I had not heard an update so called. The woman I spoke with said she would check on it and call me back, so after 4 hours of waiting I called them back and they said it would be ready Monday. I called Monday to see when it could be picked up and she said they didn't have it yet because my ring was with an off-site engraver and the woman who delivers jewelry between the engraver studio and their store was on vacation. At that point I was confused why I was first told mid week and then told Monday when an integral part of the supply chain of getting my ring back to me was on vacation. Additionally, I was never told my ring would be taken off site. I told the woman I spoke with that it made me really uneasy that I could not get a straight answer about when I could get my ring back and she seemed dismissive as if I was a nuisance and said they'd follow up. Again, I did not hear back for a couple hours so I called again and the engraver told me it was done and would be delivered tomorrow (Tuesday) around 10AM. I called at noon before driving there and the girl I spoke with said my ring was not in the store because the woman who could deliver it was on vacation so it would not be ready today. At this point, I was receiving numerous stories that didn't match and I just wanted my ring back. It turns out they shipped my ring from Lebanon to the store in Nashville so I was able to pick it up Tuesday. I should add that I'm very uncomfortable that my ring was shipped (ie was it insured properly), when I was never told in the first place that my ring was going offsite. At the end of the day, I'm upset because I left my most prized possession (due to sentiment and value) with a store that didn't seem to respect that. I didn't drop off a gemstone piece or a jewelry box to be engraved, this is my engagement ring. If it was just delayed for a whole week and they were up front with me I would not be upset. But I was the one who had to call for all the updates (they never called me), and essentially everyone I spoke with in store could not give me a concrete update on my ring. It is such a helpless feeling to drop off something with such high sentiment and to feel like it's being handled by people who could care less. The whole situation makes me incredibly uneasy and unnecessarily upset about how my ring was handled and could have been managed by them totally differently. At the end of the day, if you leave an item of value with a store and you call for an update, the person in store should be able to address where you ring is and when it will be ready. My fiance bought this ring from my uncle who is a jeweler in Boston. I spoke with my Uncle and said the whole process was not kosher and misleading and will be matching my ring to my original appraisal from him when I am in Boston next. read more

My parent's got their engagement ring and wedding bands at Draper's in the 40's, mine was purchased here in the late 70's and my daughter's came from here in the 2000's. Today I picked up my ring from a cleaning and the rebuild on the crown. This family...son in law of Mr. Draper, now the head Jeweler...is a class act. I will go no where else in Nashville. I went to get my ring resized since it was slightly too big for my finger, and after waiting several days for them to do this, I get it back and it's NO smaller than when I brought it in. Not to mention I had to pay $49 for it not to be any different. I told them I didn't think it was changed and it's not the right size, and they continued to convince me I don't want it any smaller. Ok. So 9 months ago I went to Drapers Jewelry store. Purchased a casserole dish of all things..quite unique. While there I had my rings inspected and then cleaned. Just out of habit. Anyway....the young lady came out with my rings and apologized because a small diamond got "lost" during cleaning. Okay. They offered to replace it of course. Now I did call about 6 months later to inquire how they were coming on getting the replacement diamond. The owner told me it may take awhile to find a match for the European cut stone. No kidding. I was having some difficulty with my watch and took it to Draper's. They kept it a few days to test it out and observe it over time. When I returned for my watch I was told it worked well, just needed minimal cleaning. They charged me nothing for this! The watch has continued to work well since. I was looking to take some diamonds that I had inherited and have them made into a ring. I had gone to several jewelry stores in town to obtain estimates on the cost. Of all the stores I went to, Drapers was very helpful in showing me waxes that would work with the diamonds I had. They were able to credit me the old gold toward the custom work of the new ring. I have never been more pleased with the work and my wife to be loves the new ring. I would reccommend Drapers to anyone. read more
