Very good chicken and Hamburgers Establishment has been here since 1950's. I've been coming here since o was a child.

Finally found myself able to try Drake's Duck In! I went at the top of lunch time so parking downtown wasn't an issue. The menu has a lot of options and the restaurant definitely gave a down home vibe. Customer service was decent. The lady taking the order seemed like she was hurrying me a bit but was helpful in modifications and answers to my questions. After I placed my order, people started coming in so I get the calm before the storm of the lunchtime rush. The chicken was greasy but it was good! Extremely flavorful! I like my chicken cooked well so the next time I will make that request. I ordered the wing combo. I wish the fries were hot and cooked fresh which was a bit disappointing. Next time I know exactly what to say when placing my order. The buttered roll was good too and I am a sucker for bread. I had second thoughts about the coleslaw after looking at it so I didn't even taste it. It was too soupy for me, however, looks can be deceiving so I will try it next time. Definitely plan to stop in again.

The best food we've had in a long time! Fried chicken and burgers were on point. And amazing French fries! The staff was super friendly and the place is really clean. We'll make a special trip to come back for sure.

Chicken and Waffle

Food was great, service was great, and place was very clean! Workers were very nice and took great care of us. Had the chicken and waffles and it was the best I've ever had. Would definitely recommend and come back to.

One of the wings and fries. I wasn't going to waste my money. I had to pull about 4 feathers off of each wing.

The renovations look good, however, I think they have included the renovation prices into the costs. I use to frequent this establishment often for years, prices were decent..but now, every thing is over priced. I don't mind paying for what I want. The service was good and the food was decent, I'm complaining about the price. $14 dollars for 4 full wings and two rolls...that was ridiculous. You will have to pay $4 more to get fries and a drink. Especially since I know several other restaurants within 2 miles with better food and service for less. This was my last visit to this restaurant and my chicken had feathers on it, I hate that. It was like they just put the chicken in th grease and didn't even pull the loose feathers off after seeing it. This use to be one of my fav spots..I will not be visiting again. Last thing, the menu is limited, no kid meals..I was truly disappointed

Every single item was so good!

On my coast to coast road trip, stopping at all the awesome local eateries like this one that I can find...Drake's wins. It's the most authentic, delicious, and friendly Diners DriveIns and Dives type spot and they've been doing it since like 1910. Everything is clearly made in house which makes all the difference. Staff was so nice and friendly despite being pretty busy (both days - I went back for round 2 my second day in town it was so good). Chicken sandwich was 10/10. It's the real deal sandwich the national chains all have versions of now, except everything at Drakes is fresh, not frozen. Macaroni was so good. You can tell by the noodles and cheese its definitely made in house. Coleslaw was really really good, they do this fine mince to the veggies that makes it unique to Drakes. Chicken strip basket was as big as you can possibly get for like 6 bucks. Fried chicken batter for lunch special was as delicious as you would imagine in a place doing it for 100 years...so perfectly seasoned!

BBQ Buffet!? Doc's…read moreBBQ is a must stop for anyone that's into BBQ with a big appetite. The setup here is buffet style all you can eat BBQ and side. YES! All you can eat. What an amazing concept. I can say that the food quality is pretty awesome especially considering the buffet style restaurant. I've been twice now and both times the food was awesome and they don't pull back on anything here. The only issue is they do have some weird hours but for what you get and how they do things it's totally worth a trip during lunch. I highly recommend hitting this spot if you're a fan of BBQ and have ever felt like you didn't here get enough of your favorite BBQ dishes.

Cuisine: 7 Service: 6…read moreDecor: 6 Value: 9 Overall: 7 I first came to Doc's back in summer of 2023 because I wanted to pig out on southern comfort food. Well, at $14.50 back then for the buffet, I thought I was in heaven. A huge array of choices that will induce the heart attack I was looking for. Price has obviously gone up a tick, but it's still a great deal imho. Since the restaurant was super busy, everything felt extremely fresh. As for mains, I guess I enjoyed the fried chicken a lot since I keep refilling ny plate with it. I also tried a little bit of everything else, including the bbq pulled pork, fried catfish nuggets, and meatloaf (Tuesday special). They were all good. As for sides, there were plenty to choose from. All the southern staples are here, like mac & cheese, collard greens, coleslaw, potato salad, hush puppies, etc. Don't forget to get some desserts too. I like their peach cobbler. A place like this can only survive in the south. I wish we had something remotely resembling Doc's back in NYC, but it'll never work. I'll just have to visit the south more often for gems like these.

Midwood Smokehouse... WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL MY LIFE?!…read more Imagine me singing like the Campbell's commercial because BABYYYYY! I am absolutely appalled and ashamed that we visited Columbia back in September and somehow missed this goodness! All I wanted was a simple sandwich after leaving Family Day on base... Opened Yelp, and BOOM! Midwood Smokehouse appeared. Six minutes away? Oh, AND it's in a shopping center with Whole Foods? Say less! The original plan was takeout. But here comes my mother-in-love... "Lady T, you want to sit down and have a cocktail?" Well, don't mind if I do! I'm still mentally somewhere along the Mediterranean coast, enjoying my Aperol spritz era, but this time I settled for a gin and tonic... And let me tell you about our bartender! The moment he set that glass down, I could smell the gin! Now, I know how that sounds, but listen... I'm in my white liquor season, and he understood the assignment! Perfectly made! Enough to give me a little buzz before my Whole Foods adventure. Nothing over the top... just enough to remind me that he was NOT playing! But let's talk about the establishment itself. From the moment we walked in, the hospitality was evident. The young man at the entrance politely directed us toward the back to place our takeout order. The gentleman who assisted us was equally pleasant, mannerable, and professional... he was also our bartender. During our conversation, he shared that he's a youth pastor, which genuinely warmed our hearts. Many prayers and blessings to him as he continues his pastoral journey. Something else stood out... THE REGULARS! We noticed customers coming in who were clearly familiar faces to the staff... And honestly, we've observed that at several establishments during this Columbia visit. There's something special about a place where the staff knows its customers. That speaks volumes! Now... THE FOOD! Because BABYYYYY! We returned to the hotel with our order, and let me tell you... THE BAKED BEANS!!! Listen, I LOVE a good baked bean, and these right here?! FREAKING PHENOMENAL! Somebody needs to explain why I was sitting in my hotel room contemplating ordering another serving! CLOCK IT! The burnt ends? GOODNESS GRACIOUS! Juicy, tender, beautifully seasoned, with just the right amount of crisp! Not burnt to the point where you're tasting charcoal, but that perfectly executed exterior that complements the tenderness inside. Somebody on the grill and/or the kitchen KNOWS what they're doing! The mac and cheese? Okay, now... It was good, but it wasn't taking home the trophy. I'm personally not a fan of shell pasta for mac and cheese, and I would've loved a little more cheese and creaminess to give it that rich finish. It held its own, though! We're giving it an honorable mention. It didn't miss... it just didn't win the award and that's ok... this little league where everyone gets a ... The hush puppies? Delicious! Listen... I probably need to leave bread alone, but clearly that wasn't happening today! Absolutely delicious as well! Overall, Midwood Smokehouse deserves a ROUND OF APPLAUSE! TENS ACROSS THE BOARD for the overall experience! From the hospitality and atmosphere... to the bartender's cocktail craftsmanship and the phenomenal BBQ, this was such an unexpected treat... And the fact that I haven't even told my husband I'm considering another baked bean order... well, that's between me, Yelp, and the Lord!

Competition Quality-meat came easily off the bone but didn't fall off the bone. I had 2 slices of brisket and we shared Hush Puppies and their Mac and Cheese. Driving up you see the smoke from the smoking pit and you know from the smell, you made a good choice. Nothing fancy here- inside eating is very casual. They do a high volume of to go orders. This is a family run business and the staff are very knowledgeable and friendly. They seem very organized and gave a system in place for the pick up business that seemed to work well for them. The owners (I believe husband/wife) both came out and checked on us. We spoke for a little bit with each one. We felt welcomed and appreciated. OMG! I would've loved to share a slice of one of those triple layer cakes. Slices were extra generous but we were already taking home some brisket and Mac &Cheese. We will definitely come here again if we have to return for more tests
