I was referred to Dr. Brahms office by the Veterans Administration through community care which is…read morepart of the Mission Act. I had gone to the VA emergency room who referred me to podiatry, however, the next appointment available at the VA was months out, so I opted for a local doctor. I went to my appointment and the diagnosis of Plantar Fasciitis which is what the VA determined in the ER, was confirmed by Dr. Brahm. He explained what it was, the mechanics of it and all of that which I most certainly appreciated. He asked if I was diabetic and did some simple test for neuropathy and pulse in my foot. Not sure why as I was there for the Plantar issue and for diabetic foot care. He went on to tell me that I needed shoes or inserts that would raise my heal to about 5/8" to 3/4" higher than the rest of my foot which would reduce the stress on my heel which is where the severe pain is. I ask if he prescribe these for me and he told me that he could not, that the VA would have to do that or that I could buy my own over the counter shoes made for this condition (I looked it up, well over $100 for these if of any good quality). He told me to do some foot exercising to help take care of the tendons in my foot. He did not provide any suggestions to the type of exercises, no hand outs showing what to do or anything. Also of note, I was never asked by him or his staff, nor was there any place on my initial questionnaire, that asked me about any medications I currently take nor were my vital signs taken at any point. So I left. Because he said they could not prescribe the proper things for my foot, I reached out to the VA Podiatry department who said I should contact VA Community Care, which I immediately did. I gave the entire story to the person from the VA who determined that something was wrong, so she initiated a 3 way call between herself, me and the doctor's office. She asked the person who answered the phone, who I believe was the office manager if she had sent in the proper forms provided by the VA which would state what the doctor had told m about my need for shoes or other items. The office manager said no and went on to use this opportunity to say that she felt that if she sent it in the VA would do nothing because she has had experiences in the past where she tried to reach out to the VA and the VA did not respond. This has NOTHING to do with my circumstance. She was told byu the VA agent that the proper form should have been submitted. At this point, the doctor himself, Dr. Brahm, came on the line and told the VA rep that he could not prescribe the proper items he suggested because the VA would not approve because it was his understanding that the VA only paid for shoes for diabetics and because his simple tests did not show a problem related to diabetes. He made the decision on the VA's behalf which is NOT his job! His job in this case would have been to complete and forward the aforementioned form to the VA so that the VA can make a decision as to whether or not they would pay for these shoes or whatever was determined that I needed. During the course of the VA explaining to him the correct procedure, the doctor said something along the line that he was tired of this call or did not need this or whatever and just hung up the phone, in the middle of the conversation. SO, my advice, especially if you are a veteran using Community Care through the VA and Triwest, is to avoid this doctor like the plague. He appears to be set in his ways and apparently does not understand the intricacies of dealing with veterans and the Veteran's Administration. Please note that I have shared this experience with the VA Community Care Department, the VA Podiatry Department at Loma Linda, The Patient Advocacy Department at the VA and Triwest and will continue to do so with any all that may be concerned. In closing, I am 100% Service Connected Permanent and Total Disabled. I have to disabilities that are rated at 100%, one of them being Chromic PTSD. Because of this experience, I have been affected. This whole thing and how the doctor reacted to the three way phone call has created more feelings of anxiety and depression and a big concern for other patients, especially veterans who may have to endure the same

There are countless Podiatrist to choose from in the Temecula/Murrietta area, Dr. Richard B Haas…read moreshould not be the one you select to visit. Dr. Haas may be ok at his profession, but the professionalism shown by Dr. Haas and his receptionist is sufficient reason enough to steer clear of this business. My wife was a patient of Dr. Haas for several years. We have a PPO with Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield the 2nd largest healthcare provider in California. On my wives visits to Dr. Haas, the receptionist informed us that our payment would be $75.00 because we had not met our deductible. I confirmed with our insurance company that the service that was required from Dr. Haas was a service that is a co-pay only charge of $20, not the co-insurance charge of $75 that the receptionist insisted that we pay. The receptionist would tap on her clipboard and tell us that our deductible hadn't been met and that our fee for the visit was $75. According to and confirmed by Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield there is no deductible that needs to be met for this service and we were overcharged $55 for every visit we have made to this office. I contacted Anthem Blue Cross & Blue Shield and we did a 3 way call with the receptionist over 80 days ago. The receptionist finally admitted during this call that she was wrong and in fact we had been overcharged $370.00. She told me that she would need to speak with Dr. Haas about getting us reimbursed. I asked her if she would call me after speaking with Dr. Haas and she told me that I would need to call her back to find out how it would be handled. I called back 3 days later and the receptionist told me that she hadn't had a chance to speak with Dr. Haas and that once again I would need to call her back. I called back 4 days later and was told by the same receptionist that she hadn't had a chance to speak with Dr. Haas and that I should call her back. I called the receptionist again 2 weeks later and I was told that she hadn't had a chance to speak with Dr. Haas. I told her that I couldn't understand why my issue hadn't been addressed with Dr. Hass and I was told that he sees "100's of patients a day" and they weren't able to speak about my concerns. I called back 2 weeks later and I was told that a check had been sent out for the amount that I had been overcharged. Three weeks later I had still not received my check so I called the receptionist once again. I asked to speak with Dr. Haas about this ongoing saga and I was told that in order to speak to Dr. Haas I would need to book an appointment since there nothing else that she could do for me? I told her what a inconvenience and waste of time for me to do this but I reluctantly agreed to set up an appointment so that I could speak to Dr. Hass directly. His first available appointment was 32 days after our conversation. The day of my appointment I arrived on time, signed in and had a seat in the waiting area. The receptionist never called me up to the window, she just called out my name and as I was sitting in the chair was told that if I hadn't received the check she would do some investigating on her end and if it hadn't been cashed at that time they would issue another check and mail it to me. I told her that I wanted to speak with Dr. Haas and was told by her that the only way I could speak with him was to book an appointment and that my appointment wasn't with her, it was with Dr. Haas. She said that this is how they were going to handle it. While still sitting in the reception area I told her how unprofessional this office was and that it started with her. This led her to immediately get up an tell Dr. Haas what I had just said. I could hear this conversation from where I was seated and Dr. Haas said, " Tell him I am not in". I laughed to myself and told the two of them that I could hear the conversation and that I had an appointment with Dr. Haas not the receptionist and would like to speak with Dr. Haas. While still sitting in the reception area, Dr. Haas appeared at the office door and I told him that I wanted to speak to him about being reimbursed for the amount that I was overcharged. Since I hadn't received my money in over 3 months I asked him if his practice was having financial difficulties that I needed to know about and if that was why he hadn't reimbursed me. He then looked at me and said "Do I look like I need your money"? I asked him if he was insinuating that I do? He then told me, while I am still in the reception area, I have never been asked to come back into a private consultation room to discuss this, that I am on "Private Property and that I need to leave now" I told him that I have an appointment with him and that I would like to speak with him and I wasn't going to leave until this issue was resolved. He then said " I will never pay you and that if you want your money you will have to sue me for it" SERIOUSLY?!? SEE PART 2

Really, like I'm coming back for another surgery when she already had me under? I felt no pain at all after this surgery. I couldn't understand why since my sister in law had bunion surgeru 2 mos before and had immense pain. I found out later when I went in for post op xrays and saw she had cut the knuckle of my second toe out and pinned the two pieces of bone together. I asked why she did that and that she should of told me she was going to take a knuckle out. She said so the bunion wouldn't grow back. I could no longer jog, bend forward, get on my horse with that foot, so many things. I have excruciating nerve damage as she also cut my nerves which explains why I had no pain after surgery, and she cut my tendons so I couldn't bend my toes which also might make the bunion come back. This is all rediculous. I am permanently crippled on this foot, because of things she did that did not need to be done at all. I do not recommend this doctor .I only gave her one star because I could not give her a zero.
