When I am not in a job, my full-time job is finding my next job.
My most recent employer gave me a parting gift: outplacement services. DBM called it a "career transition workshop." The bottom line: it was a three-day job hunting seminar.
I'd never heard of DBM, and it took me a couple of tries to google it. When I got the reservation, it was to a rented conference room on Market Street, and the facilitator came in from Walnut Creek to give the class. There was no attempt to upsell us any other DBM services.
The good news: We had a great three days practicing the hard interview questions and redefining our resumes. In addition to the "What Color is Your Parachute" formula, we learned how to turn the whole job search into a project, and how to integrate each piece of our marketing campaign so that there would be no surprises. We learned how magnificent we were, and our confidence got a good ego boost.
