I visited this facility with my two young children, ages 2 and 5, and had a very different…read moreexperience compared to other chiropractors I've seen. During our visit, I was told that both of my children needed to be seen four times per week. When I asked for the reasoning behind this recommendation, the doctor responded by repeating my own words back to me, saying that if I "want my children to be healthy, that's what it would take." This felt inappropriate, especially since my children have had no injuries, accidents, or existing health concerns. I also noticed that whenever I asked questions, my own words were often repeated back to me in a way that felt dismissive and manipulative. It was framed as though I wouldn't improve or would remain unwell unless I saw him frequently and only used the specific providers and testing he recommended, regardless of their redundancy. This gave me the impression that the focus was more on maintaining ongoing payments and referrals than on genuinely helping patients. I was also advised to get X-rays, but was told I could only go to a specific university facility located about 45 minutes away. The office was reluctant to provide details and instead wanted to schedule the appointment on my behalf and would even watch my kids at their office while I went for the x-rays. While that might be helpful in some situations, it did not work for me. I was also informed that the visit would cost $150 and would not be covered by insurance. When I said I preferred to go somewhere in-network, the doctor became upset and insisted that if I wanted to improve and for him to do his job, I needed to go where he recommended and pay out of pocket, because he personally trusted that facility. This raised concerns for me, so I declined the X-rays and asked whether he would still be willing to treat me without them. I was told to come into the office to discuss it. Not wanting to waste time, I hesitated, but ultimately went. During that visit, the doctor became visibly angry, raised his voice, and even pounded his fists on the table while insisting he could not proceed without the X-rays. At that point, I chose to leave. I had additional testing pending and asked if I could receive results virtually, explaining that I did not feel comfortable returning to the office with my children or myself. I was told that this behavior was just part of the doctor's personality and that other patients accepted it that way. I did not share that perspective. While I will say that the adjustments themselves were effective, the overall experience felt uncomfortable and, at times, coercive. Being encouraged to commit to frequent visits, expensive out-of-pocket testing, and specific providers without flexibility or clear justification did not feel reasonable to me.

First Dr. Kurt gave me acupuncture a couple times. Then he recommended dry needling. Dr. Kurt fully informed me of what to expect with the dry needling (I'd feel the needle but would not be painful, the needle would cause the muscle to spasm and then relax). After going a few months, once per week for dry needling my issue significantly decreased. Not only is Dr. Kurt very professional and knowledgeable, but he also treated me with extreme respect. He knew I was nervous, and he spent whatever time was needed to answer my many questions. Also, Dr. Kurt was different than the neurologist and orthopedic doctors I've seen. Dr. Kurt actually wanted to help me get to the root cause of my issue. He asked me questions that no other doctor asked, such as how my stress level and stress triggers are. Dr. Kurt offered suggestions on how I could seek out and research the affects that stress has on the nerve and muscle systems. I am extremely glad that I went to Dr. Kurt for chiropractic treatments. Not only did he provide excellent treatment, but he guided me to information that helped me learn how to improve my health condition. Dr. Gus is a phenomenal healer! I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND him as a chiropractor... FYI - His practice also offers massage, acupuncture, nutrition, and a LOT more (although I haven't yet had the opportunity to use those modalities)! When I first walked into his building, I felt a calm come over me - simply because of Dr. Gus's energy and demeanor. Dr. Gus obviously loves what he does, and his focus is on healing others. His adjustments to my body were spot on - he knew exactly where everything hurt. And, given that I suffer from severe fibromyalgia, he was both gentle AND strong. Using a combination of TENS and warm heat, Dr. Gus was able to get me relaxed (which is very difficult for me). He then stretched me out thoroughly on my tightest muscles. After the prep, Dr. Gus went to work on my spine and other joints using his drop table - a method that is MUCH gentler on the body, but no less effective than the "strong arm it in" approach that a lot of other chiropractors use. In fact, he released almost ALL of my subluxations and joints that I didn't even realize were frozen. His gentle demeanor and compassion were evident throughout the entire process. Dr. Gus regularly inquired about how I was feeling, asked if anything was too much, and I could literally feel how much he cared about me. I have lived all over America, and finding a great chiropractor is a nightmare! However, now that I found Dr. Gus, I'm not going to anyone else, for as long as I live in Chicagoland!
