Short version: I was able to get a custom made ring at significant savings. The ring was exactly what my fiance wanted. I received it in a timely (and personable) manner. She loved it. And, I had the ring independently assessed and it was assessed for significantly more than I paid for it! Long version: 1) Initial contact: I contacted Pierre by e-mail with a general idea of what I was looking for. He called me and we chatted so that he could get all the particulars. And, I exchanged some photographs of what I (she) wanted the ring to look like. 2) Pierre got back to me in days with a price for the construction of the ring, an anticipated timeline from the date I requested he begin and a total of three potential diamonds that fit within my price range. I admit that the diamonds didn't speak to me and asked him he could source a few others. He got back to me within a day with 2 more diamonds and one of them was exactly what we were looking for. 3) Initial Meeting: For me, all of our correspondence had been via e-mail, text, and phone. If I am going to be shelling out some significant cash for a ring that my fiance was rather particular, I wanted to meet the guy and see the shop. I work long hours and he agreed to stay late on a Friday night to help out (and his wife called to inquire where he was in during our meeting.. so I know he had better things to do!). That's service. He showed me the diamond he had and a mock-up of the ring based on a previous model he had made, explained the next step of wedding bands and how they could be incorporated (never thought of that!), and repeated the timeline. Deposit comfortably provided. 4) Picking up the ring. I was ecstatic. There's always a bit of pressure on the guy selecting the ring when the better half is not there to give explicit instructions (although to me she had been very clear.. so clear I better not screw it up when giving him the instructions!). But, the ring was perfect and exactly as envisioned and planned. At least when it came to the proposal, I knew the ring wouldn't be a complaint. ;) 5) Post-proposal: My fiance and I returned to get the ring sized and leave it (she was heartbroken as she just received it and didn't want to give it back). But, Pierre was quick with his turn-around and helped mitigating the situation by showing her how the wedding band could match-up. I have subsequently picked up the ring. It is back on her finger. And, we'll be back for our bands.

UPDATE: workmanship is NOT great. I had a stone fall out after less than 6 months. Which is…read moreridiculous considering how much I paid. They may have fixed it under a service warranty but I just couldn't bring myself to go back. That's how bad the experience/ customer service was. Please do yourself and find another jeweler. First I'll tell you about the restoration of my ring. It's beautiful. Good workmanship. I'm unsure if it was actually Mr. Mooney that worked on my ring though. The work was done within one week. Customer service I'd give a 2. If that. His wife is in charge of estimates and is the face to their store. I went in with a ring needing a stone replaced. I had no idea if it was a diamond or not and I didn't say that it was. She took her jeweler's tool, took a good look and declared it to be an xyz carat diamond. "That'll be $$ to replace." Great. I go on my way. I get a call the next day from her "you told us these were diamonds so we treated them as such, they're cubic zirconia's and have crushed under the heat and pressure. Call me" Umm what?! You're the expert! Why are you blaming your customer after YOU gave the estimate of a diamond. Very unprofessional. She then tries to get me to swap them all out for diamonds. Nope. Also not ok. I also sold them old gold to pay. Shocker- not great pricing. Go to an official "buyer" of gold to today's best price for your gold. I have no idea if I paid too much. Lessons learned- get a few quotes. Workmanship here is good but customer service is NOT. Should have gone with my spidey senses on this one when she quoted me $20 to change a watch battery. Wha?!!! I won't recommend this place. Too many other talented jewelers in this city that do treat their customers professionally.

He does all our repairs and it is hard to come out of the shop without one of his new creations. Every time we drop into the shop he polishes up our rings to make them sparkle like new.
