After the appointment took place, we were told that we were not covered and then were asked to sign a document stating that services were provided with knowledge that we were not covered which was a lie. Dragon dental is by far the best dentist I have ever had. I moved out of Oakland a year ago but still make the 30 min drive to come here. I have had to have a lot dental procedures done due to not taking great care of my teeth when I was in my adolescent years. The technology, knowledge, and service at this office are above and beyond. I have been able to get complete crown work done in a single visit because they have the skills and technology to do so. Juggling being a new mom and working, having the ability to get dental work done in 1 visit vs having to split work into multiple visits has been such a huge help and benefit!! The team members are all sweet and kind and do their best to remember even the smallest details about me. When I come here, I actually feel like I am getting some relaxation time built into my day. Cleanings I've had with Camelia are thorough and quick and more acute procedures, with Dr. Joyce, Anna, and Nancy, feel the same. I've been going here for years but will not return. The customer service has gotten progressively worse. During my last visit I got a root canal and they stopped midway through because they had another appointment. My root canal took 3 visits due to their "scheduling." They did not acknowledge the inconvenience or how inappropriate it is to have someone leave mid procedure because "another patient is here" The friendly, welcoming environment has changed and I will not be returning. Just providing an update on my initial review. It's now been several years after dragon dental installed a crown and guess what... the crown fell out this past week. Look no further for a friendly and thorough dentist office. This was my first visit to this office and I absolutely loved it! I really like the location, it's on 1st floor of a nice, clean office building. Parking was very easy and the office was not hard to find at all. As soon as I walked into the office I would immediately greeted by a group of friendly front desk receptionists. I was asked to sign in and I provided them with copies of my paperwork that was emailed to me for completion ahead of time. I waited approximately five minutes before the dental assistant greeted me and gave me a tour of their office facilities and introduced me to some of their staff. All X-rays are completed using digital technologies (no film required). I was seated in the dental chair about 10 mins before Dr. Joyce Tse arrived to examine my X-rays. She thoroughly explained what she was looking at, her concerns, and proper maintenance of my teeth. Prior to my teeth cleaning, she gave me a pair of cool goggles to put on, to prevent water from splashing onto my eyes during the procedure. She was gentle and thorough, checking on me every quad to make sure I was still good and alive. No pain whatsoever. I left their office with a cool goody bag - check it out in my photo. They have lip balms (also in my photos) at the front for patients to take-smells good and it works! I left their office pretty happy with a plan on my next set of treatments. read more

My brother came in for a crown and they did it for the wrong tooth. My brother was so pissed. Don't let them trick you in getting crowns. Dentist is supposed to preserve your tooth not offering you crowns and stuff you don't need. And so what if your tooth is a little crooked, braces and Invisalign you will need to wear a retainer for life.. they'll make money off of the retainer. With my insurance for a night guard shouldn't charge me over $600. I got it for them twice before and it was half the price. I went else were and was charged $320. It won't hurt to get a 2nd opinion. Bottom line is they just want to make more money for unnecessary stuff. read more

I waited on writing this because I wanted to leave an honest review based on experience and not first impression. One month of treatment later and here's my final verdict: this was the best dental experience of my life and worth every single penny. I am scheduled for my 6th appointment later this month to complete my treatment plan and I would absolutely come back for cleanings and any additional work if needed. Why? Because at Dragon Dental, I was in incredible hands the entire time. From the beginning, Dr. Tiffany Tse and the staff were communicative, compassionate, and transparent. I always felt I had someone on my side, and my dental health was of genuine concern to them. Like many, I went into my first appointment with skepticism because of terrible experiences at other dental offices. Dragon Dental heard my concerns and put in the effort to make me comfortable; giving me full permission to express my needs at any time. They emphasized client care by explaining every procedure, announcing any incoming sensations (hot, cold, etc), taking feedback, and checking in. Even on my worst days, they were able to say, in one way or another, "It's okay, you're safe here". In truth, dental work is expensive and it is hard to find a trustworthy dentist. But when the connection is right, the investment is a second thought and the dentist becomes a life long healthcare provider. Though this place is out of network for me, which means cost more out of my own pocket, it's worth it knowing you are in good hands with trusted dentists you can relay on. They followed covid 19 protocols and I felt very comfortable. The dental assistant Anna and dentist Dr. Joy took such care of me. Explained every part of the treatment. And Anna even gave me a glove so that I could hold her hand during shots and drilling. I really appreciated it. Dr. Joy fixed my tooth and I already feel better. My week was a comedy of errors trying to figure out my partner's dental insurance, and on top of that I got my appointment time wrong and arrived 30 minutes late! Everyone was so patient with me when I rolled in, having realized my mistake. And this wasn't just a regular cleaning appointment, this was my FIRST appointment, so I had a lot of paperwork to fill out. I was really worried I was out of luck, but somehow they made it work, and now my teeth are extremely clean. I've lived around here for years and never realized we had such a nice modern practice. My mom had her Invisilign work done here. Dr. Joyce was the General Dentist who performed the work. Even though she seems nice, I DO NOT recommend her or Dental Dragon. After doing molding and wearing the invisalign for two years as instructed, it left two huge gaps in between her teeth. As a result, the Invisalign did not work as advertised. Moreover, my mom felt a constant reoccurring pain in her jaws from then. This has negatively affected her ability to eat and sleep. In a couple of other instances, the Dental assistant strongly insisted her to open very widely for the molding, even as she pleaded no because of the pain. The alignment process dragged on several years beyond the expected time frame. In the end, my mom did not get her teeth fixed and was left with residual pain. I strongly encourage others to get a Orthodontist Specialist or go elsewhere for Invisalign. Don't be fooled by Dental Dragon's nice demeanor. read more

I'm fairly new to the Oakland area, so this is the first dentist office I've visited outside of the one I've gone to for 10+ years in my hometown. I was recommended by a fellow coworker and saw that DD had good Yelp reviews... so why not! Visit #1: I did general teeth cleaning with Dr. Khalil, who was extremely friendly and actually took the time to explain everything to me (like why they were calling out random numbers as they went through each of my teeth... apparently, my last dentist never thought it was important for me to learn about this). Visit #2: FOUR (yes all four) wisdom teeth removal with Dr. Joyce. I came in thinking I was going to be put to sleep, but they only used local anethesia, so of course I freaked. Their staff was very patient with me and calmed me down, as I waited for my boyfriend to bring my headphones for me (PRO TIP: bring your bluetooth headphones to drown out the noise of drilling into your teeth). The healing process was IMPECCABLE. I did not SWELL A BIT. When I came back for post-op check up, the staff congratulated me and were so proud of their work. Visit #3: I came in 1 month later because I was feeling some small pain in my gums where my wisdom tooth was removed. I called in the day before and got an appointment for the day after. I was having a bad day but was greeted by Flora, who still remembers me and my amazing recovery. She told me she was surprised to see me because of how well I healed but that they would have Dr. Joyce see me to make sure everything was okay. Dr. Joyce and Anna took care of me again and let me know that it was a small bone fragment that was coming out of my gums (normal for wisdom teeth removal). I was in and out within 20 minutes! OVERALL: Great, friendly staff who remember you and truly care and take the time to explain what's going on. Super clean office that's accessible in downtown Oakland (I literally walk from my work). Only been here once so far when I had a full exam and a teeth cleaning done. My coworker referred me here and since it's just a few blocks from work, I thought why not? Also it's called "Dragon Dental." Which is awesome. Anna, the tech, led me to their very high-tech x-ray machine in which I got a full skull scan (!!) and later took other x-rays of my mouth while sitting in the chair. Anna was suuuuper nice and I really enjoyed talking to her. Dr. Nguyen did my exam and teeth cleaning and, since I was interested, talked me through the x-rays and showed me what he was seeing. I saw that I had the beginnings of a cavity on the left-side of my mouth, learned that I have very long roots, and my teeth also have a higher occurrence of these little deposits in them. Harmless, but interesting. The whole teeth cleaning process was pretty uneventful and painless, though I was starting to get nauseous from the reclined position. I had a fluoride varnish added to prevent against further cavities. What I most appreciated was that when I called to set up the appointment, the fees were explicitly stated to me as I was a cash-paying patient. As such, there were some discounts offered as well. I knew exactly what I was getting and how much it was going to cost. Even when Dr. Nguyen suggested the fluoride varnish, one of his staffers came in to explain the costs to me. 24 hours ago, I had no idea Dragon Dental existed. But now, I can honestly say I won't be going to anyone else for dental services after yesterday's visit. I needed emergency dental work yesterday and my regular dentist was not open. Out of five places I tried, they were the only office that made themselves available to take me. I have been here for over 5 years now, and haven't have any problems or issues. Instead of the traditional braces, Dr. Joyce and the rest of the crew were able to help me get invisalign for my crowed teeth. Because of my overly crowed teeth, I was told by my past Ortho doc that I am not a candidate for invisalign. Yet, this crew has proved them wrong. And now after a few years, my teeth is super straight and I have never felt so confident about my smile. :) I have never liked my teeth to be clean before, but now I am alway looking forward to getting my teeth clean. Extra stars for all the precautions taken during COVID. I felt very safe around the equipment and staff. However, the dentist I saw seemed very very inexperienced. He wasn't conversational and seemed as if he just graduated dental school. He had me relay my medical history multiple times and still didn't quite understand. As a medical professional myself, it was easy to see he was very inexperienced. Worse of all, his solution? Pull out my teeth! Soooo, I never returned. I have been meaning to write a review about this F. A. B. U. L. O. U. S dental clinic. I moved to Oakland from Washington DC 3 years ago. I was very pleased (actually, beyond pleased) to have found this clinic online. I tried once and never looked back. Everyone is very friendly and caring right from the moment you step in their newly renovated reception area -- the receptionists are very accommodating, even offering me bottled water and reminding me about parking validation if I needed one. And of course, they're very good with giving me a courtesy reminder on the phone or email about my appointment. The dental techs are very attentive and the dentists do take time to look at the X-rays and my dental history to discuss plan of care. Today, I was assisted by Flora and Travisa at the reception, Anna and Mae were my dental technicians and Dr Kharim was my dentist. I felt so cared for and all of my questions and concerns were addressed. And, by the way, the main lobby of the building is a beautiful place to hang out with a cup of coffee. I've been to three different dentists in my life and this one is by far the best. I've worked with Dr. Cheung, Dr. Tse, and Dr. Vu and they have all been wonderful. The cleanings have all been efficient and pretty painless (as painless as a dental cleaning can be, at least). Additionally, they always explain the treatments to me and take great care to explain exactly what they're doing. They're also very good about explaining my various options and allowing me to decide how I'd like to proceed with no pressure from them. Dragon Dental is also very good about helping you out with payment of service. I chose to proceed with the Invisalign procedure, and when I expressed my concern about being able to pay for it, they allowed me to finance it through Chase. They did all the work setting up the payment plan with Chase, which made the whole thing much easier on me. All I had to do was read and sign. The office is clean, spacious, modern and comfortable. In the waiting area there is a soothing wall water fountain and a small refrigerator with complimentary bottles of water. The dental stations where the dental chairs are are always very clean and well-kept. Their equipment is not old or outdated, unlike my last dentist. I would recommend Dragon Dental to anyone. I recommended them to two of my coworkers who tried them out and are also now very happy patients. So definitely check them out, you will get stellar dental care. read more

I recently went back to this group because, to my horror (and what I had believed only happens in my nightmares), a tooth fell out when I was eating popcorn!!! She explained to me that my tooth had decayed but fortunately, I narrowly escaped a full root canal! #omg She and the front staff (thanks Anna!) was again, extremely pleasant, professional, and knowledgeable. TL;DR: staff need better training in handling bad situations and don't expect to be called back. I've been a patient to Dragon Dental for a decade now but my recent visit left me doubting to continue my care here. I went in on a Saturday recently for my routine biannual cleaning/check up where they noticed one of my previous fillings was cracked and needed replacing. They went over insurance with me and told me that I needed to pay 10% of the fee which was new to me as I never had to pay for fillings before this but I complied because I was advised by the dental assistant that it was better to get this fixed rather than wait for it to get worse. And hey - policies change all the time with, or unfortunately, without our knowledge as explained to me by the receptionist. Clear pictures of the cracked filling and after pictures of when they replaced it were shown to me so I appreciated this transparency. After this, I was told to wait a hour to eat for the numbing to be gone so I don't accidently bite myself. Hour+ passes and I still felt an uncomfortable soreness on my cheek at the injection site of the numbing agent. I brushed it off as something that'll go away. The day after (Sunday) I saw some slight swelling but wasn't too worried. The following Monday I noticed my cheek not only swelled up even more but a bruise appeared. I immediately called Dragon Dental and the receptionist told me that didn't "sound right" and wanted me to come in to be evaluated the same day. I work in SF and commute via BART but thankfully they're located a block away from 19th St Station so it wasn't difficult to get there on short notice. I arrived at Dragon Dental 2 hrs after and expected to be told the urgent reason for asking me to leave work before half my work day even ended. However, the clinical staff didn't seem like they knew why I was there. After I explained my issue I was then told very weak excuses - that this swelling and bruising is "actually very common." That's all they kept repeating. The dental assistant that I saw from my original visit even told me to put a WARM compress on the area. I was very confused and just stunned that I left work and BARTed my ass there to only be told to call them again if the bruising persisted a week after (which it did but I was not going to waste my time going back). After noticing I was getting frustrated and unsatisfied with their responses the staff kept giving me awkward laughs and smiles. An example would be the conversation with the same dental assistant after I asked for a note for work: DA: "you left work to come here?" Me: "yes I work in SF." DA: "oh so you take bart?" Me: "yes." DA: "oh haha thank you." ... Before I left, I brought up that I want a refund of my 10% fee that I paid at the original visit as I was very unhappy with the care I received as shown on my swelling and bruised face and the subsequent "urgent" visit that was a waste of my time. Aforementioned DA awkwardly mentioned she remembers me paying and told me to bring it up with the receptionist as they handle those transactions. Generally, all the receptionist here are friendly, nice, and bubbly. This request of mine brought out the most monotone customer service voice with matching deadpan expression that screamed IDGAF. I was given the spiel that they couldn't help me with this request but they'll notify the office manager and/or Joyce herself and either one will give me a call in the next 2 days. I was fine with that cause honestly her tone of voice kind of scared me and yeah if she couldn't do anything about it I shouldn't waste more of my time there. The 2 days came and went and no call - my mom warned about their lack of follow up as this happened to her on other occasions. I call on the 3rd day and spoke with a super friendly receptionist that took down my info and promised me the office manager would call shortly. I get a call about 50 min later from the office manager and she didn't ask to hear my complaints but asked just for my credit card info and email to refund and send me a copy of the receipt. I attempted to bring up my concerns with her before I gave her my information and although she was actually the first person to apologize to me for this situation, I honestly didn't feel heard. Emailed receipt showed up later that day and refund showed up some days later on my statement but my trust in this office has dwindled and my mom and I will look to move our care elsewhere. Our decade with this practice was generally good but when issues do occur we feel like we never get the proper attention. I was referred by a family member to check out dragon dental in Oakland. I really enjoyed my first time experience. Great customer service, very clean and newish clinic in downtown Oakland on franklin. They were able to accommodate my appointment with my friend's appointment on the same day. When I called on the same week of my appointment, they took my insurance info and booked me to their weekend open appointment right away. It was a very quick process. When I got to my appointment, I filled out the new patient paperworks, then they called me in to do X-rays and gave me a tour of the clinic. I'm very impressive by how large the clinic is, it looks small on the outside but it's very big once you enter through the exam rooms. There were a lot of sanitary, cleaning and dental equipments, everything are very new and up to date. I was very impressed by how many X-ray they took for my teeth, like at every angle to examine my teeth thoroughly. My dentist Dr. Wong was very thorough with my teeth examination, and looked through my X-ray and pointed out some issues regarding my teeth. I've been through 2 dentists in the past and they never told me about my cavities or plagues before. But Dr. Wong was very positive and gave a lot of pointers to how to improve my oral health and show me various ways to brush and floss my teeth. Even changing to electronic toothbrush helps with plagues and cavities. I was very surprised how thorough the examination was. He even showed me my X-ray and consulted where the issues are with my teeth which is very nice. The Cleaning was thorough, previously my other dentists doesn't do the cleaning but Dr. Wong did my teeth cleaning which was a nice surprise. It's usually the dentist assistant that does the cleaning for me. Then Dr. Wong's assistant brush polish my teeth after the cleaning process. I'd have to say the cleaning doesn't hurt at one, maybe when it hit a sensitive gum it does but overall really great first time experience! I highly recommend everyone to visit dragon dental. Their staff is friendly, adept with their terrifying dental tools, and almost always on time (I think I've only had to wait 10 minutes for an appointment once, in over two years). They also don't try to gouge you for everything your insurance doesn't cover. I've had dentists in the past who would demand I get all these additional treatments and not mention that they weren't covered and in fact were super pricey until I was out of the chair. That kind of shady behavior isn't the case here: sure they'll recommend things like fluoride ($30?), Invisalign, extra cleanings, etc -- but they're not super pushy about it. read more

Not even capable for one star! Even though I have Humana insurance, they are incredibly expensive!!!! I already spent $1000 for the root canal treatment and still asking for 500$ for delivering crown( sorry if I spell wrong). They did not let us know the price of it before they begin the process of treatment! After putting the injection, my mouth was like not able to talk, they are showing me the bill with the calculator!
