Unfortunately she was totally unresponsive after the fact when I requested a paid receipt for the euthanasia with my dogs name on it for my insurance. (she had sent a receipt that didn't have my dogs name on it).She did not respond to text , email or calls, except to say once, that she would do it, and then didn't. I would just suggest one ask to have your pets name of the receipt, or some insurance companies won't handle it. read more

Dr. May is the very best. I moved back to Austin a few years ago, and I knew I needed to find someone special to help me care for my senior dog, Maya, who was blind, deaf, and had Cushing's disease (too much adrenaline). These three issues combined made going to a vet's office a nightmare for my girl... she could smell all the other animals but didn't know where they were, sending her adrenaline levels through the roof. In addition to the convenience of having Dr. May and her assistants come to us, she is an excellent vet. She was always extremely thorough in examining Maya and was incredibly patient when Maya was less than cooperative. With Dr May's help, I was able to make Maya's final 3+ years peaceful and comfortable. It was finally time for me to say goodbye to Maya this past January, and Dr May made the experience as easy for me as possible. She explained each step of the process so I would know what to expect, and then she let me take as much time as I needed to say goodbye. I needed a veterinarian for my two small breed dogs and searched on yelp for a highly recommended vet and found Dr. Erin May. She had a assistant with her and she wanted the records from my previous Westgate Pet and Bird and was very effective. So she continued and typed up all the information regarding my two small dogs. The one important thing you must know is how well she communicates with the pets and the dog parents is over the top raises the bar with her personality she even checked our feral cat and gave us a seditive for anxiety since she was not willing to get a rabie shot we will have to sedate her before she comes to the house for the next visit. Has all the equipment to come to your house and fully prepared the only thing is she told us she was out of the heart worm and flea serum for our feral cat Marietta had only one dose on her and promised to send the 5 month doses to our address. She did blood work on the older dog which was a rescue and assumes he may be 9 or 10 years old , our younger dog Titas is probably 4 or 5 years old. So far so good she does charge 75 dollars to come to you which is worth the waiting in a vet's office and hassle of other animals snapping at your small dogs. So happy wirh my first visit hope this turns out for future visits as well. She sends you prices of regular visits in by email and text which is great. read more

My beloved dog, Erin, had been ill for a few weeks with kidney disease. Suddenly, her health deteriorated rapidly overnight. I was desperate to do what needed to be done as soon as possible so Erin wouldn't suffer, and I called Dr. Erin May. She responded very quickly and was at my home in a few hours. Warmth and empathy exudes from her, and Erin felt very comfortable with her, as did I. The process, as incredibly difficult as it was, was the very best last gift I could have given Erin. She was in her home, on the couch we sat on every night. There was no sounds of clanging, barking, other pets and there owners. She was in one of her favorite spots, and my other dog was able to watch, which helped him understand why Erin was going to be gone. Dr. May worked around us as I held Erin, and Erin slipped away as peacefully as possible. I was alone, and things were extremely surreal, (they still are) and Dr. May took the time to just stay and talk about things with me. I know that isn't part of the deal, but her compassionate nature knew I needed to talk to another person for a bit, about normal things, instead of me being left, abrubtly alone in my grief. She was amazing throughout, and I will never have a pet put down any other way. I give her my highest recommendation, and I will be ever grateful for her services. read more

Check ups and vaccinations are quite an ordeal for us. I trap a lot of wild cats and kittens and have kept 7 over the years. Erin was just awesome on our first house call. She has amazing calming energy. She was well organized, explained things very thoroughly, and was even willing to go into one of our large closets to examine and vaccinate two of our more skittish cats. Having Erin make a house call and treat all of our cats at once was about 1000% less stressful for me AND the cats than trying to catch them one by one and drive them to the vet in a carrier. One of the cats was so comfortable with her than after we let her out of the room, she came back in to watch. Within about 15 minutes after Erin left, all the cats were completely relaxed and back to normal. Usually a trip to the vet leaves everyone completely exhausted for a full day. I won't say that the house call was well worth the extra cost - because frankly I think Erin's charges were less than I would have paid at the brick and mortar vet. I can't recommend Erin enough. This was perhaps the very best vet experience I've ever had -- And as a trapper/rescue person, I've had a lot of vet experiences. read more

We recently had to make the awful decision to put our dog Max down after 14 years. In the course of trying to plan the event, my wife mentioned that there were vets who would come to your house, a service I wasn't even aware existed. After doing some research (reading yelp reviews), I found Dr. May and Whole Pet Mobile Vet, and wow, I am so glad I did. Dr. May arrived and spent some time going over everything, she explained the process in detail, went over various possibilities and what Max might experience, and answered all of our questions. She told us to take all the time we needed and to let her know when we were ready. When we were, she first gave Max a sedative which made her drift off into sleep within a minute or so. She asked us to take as much time as we needed before giving her the final injection. We did and once Dr. May confirmed it was done, she took her equipment to her car and gave us a few more minutes together before wrapping Max up in a blanket. The fact that she took care of all the post-event details was really a big help as well. As terrible as this process is, I can't imagine it having gone better or more peacefully. Dr. May was professional, supportive, calming, and clearly suited for what must be a difficult job. I would not hesitate to recommend her to anyone needing to make a similar decision. read more

Can you believe Whole Pet Mobile Vet and Ming the cat are now friends!? I was visiting my friends and their Siamese cat, Ming, and she started having some difficulties that were rather unpleasant. (I'm referring to Ming, not my friend!) We decided that a vet was necessary, but didn't have a cage, and I wouldn't allow an ailing feline to ride to the vet in a boot box, especially when she's already freaked out. Her manner with Ming was excellent. You can just tell when some people and animals just connect. She's got that connection. The prices were quite fair, especially considering the excellent attention to detail and wonderful service. I was blown away by her breadth and depth of insight on Ming's health and well-being. Housecalls! What a great idea. Especially for our Golden Doodle, who gets terribly carsick. We called Dr. May (Erin) on the advice of our neighbors, and we were very pleased with the results. Our dogs love her (even our "snippy teenager" dog, Shelby) - she's kind, compassionate and brings salmon-flavored dog treats! The dogs were so much more comfortable in their own home, and Erin got right down on the floor with them, giving ample tummy-rubs and distracting them while she took blood samples and gave vaccinations. I have an elder pit bull with a hind leg that has gotten much weaker with age. It pains her at times and sometimes she can't use it at all. Trying to find something to help I started acupuncture treatments at my vet. Unfortunately, my dog just couldn't even relax there and I decided to try at home treatments with Dr May. It has worked out wonderfully for her. With Dr May, she is relaxed and comfortable in her own home. Dr May is so good with her my dog warms up to her right away. In addition to the acupuncture, we have needed treatments for various other ailments and Dr May has been super helpful and takes the time to explain everything she is doing and recommends tips that I can do on my own. Dr May is really wonderful and I can't recommend Whole Pet Mobile Vet enough. A true 5 stars. read more

Words can't express how grateful I am for the kindness, compassion, and professionalism Dr. May showed my family yesterday, as she came to put down our dear old Tinker dog. Tink had no idea that anything was different about the day or the nice lady in our living room, except that suddenly it was Bacon Day (our idea to distract her during the initial little sedative injection in her hiney) and then she got really sleepy. She was completely unperturbed during the entire process, which was what I had so desperately wished for her. My boyfriend and I are devastated at the loss of our beloved companion, but knowing that we could provide such a peaceful passing for her is a huge comfort. Thank you again, Dr. May. A note to those who are facing this sad task: Dr. May gives an small injection (in the rump area) to sedate your pet, BEFORE she preps and administers the IV for the final injection. It takes 3-5 minutes for that initial injection to take effect, and your pet is totally asleep before Dr. May inserts the IV line, which is really compassionate because IVs aren't painless. Here's what I want to say: If you want to be with your pet to snuggle her and say goodbye as she's drifting away, the time to do this is after the little shot and before the IV. Once the IV injection is administered, your pet may gasp for air or make sounds or kick or twitch, but she is totally unconscious and NOT suffering. Those things are reflex actions of the body. Dr. May will tell you all of this beforehand and if you choose to stay to the end she will help you through all of it, and she's very gentle and supportive. The reason I want to mention it here is that thinking about it today I wish that David and I had said our goodbyes as Tinker was getting sleepy, petted and kissed her goodbye as she was drifting off to sleep, and then left the room before the IV injection was administered. Seeing and hearing those reflex actions was deeply upsetting to both of us even though we knew exactly what they were and that they weren't hurting her, and now we'll have to carry those disturbing memories with us. Since Tinker was completely unconscious while the final injection was administered, our presence could not have been of any comfort to her so it caused us pain for no good reason and I now regret that we stayed through the last part. David and I still have our younger dog and two cats, so if the time comes we have to face another such sad day we'll be calling Dr. May... but we'll be saying our goodbyes as our baby is falling asleep and leave the room before the IV is administered. The grief packet we received from the cremation service (see next paragraph) said that some people feel the need to be there through to the last breath so they see with their own eyes that their pet is gone, and otherwise might struggle with feelings of doubt and fears that their pet was buried alive, etc. So it's a matter of your own personal feelings and needs. I know this review is getting long but people just don't talk about this stuff so they go into an already very difficult process without being very informed, and find things out the hard way and have regrets. Losing a loved one is hard enough without all that, and there ain't no do-overs. We wanted cremation rather than burial, and we used Superior Pet Crematory Services (also on Yelp, also highly rated; look them up for detailed reviews). I won't review them here, but I feel it's important to mention them because as far as I know they're the only company in the area that does *individual* pet cremation. Many people don't know that most pet crematories do "batch" cremation; the ashes you receive are from your pet and whatever other pets were in the batch with them. Superior only does individual cremations; a metal number plate accompanies your pet's body throughout the entire process so they know--and you know--with certainty that the ashes you receive are of your pet. They offer online pre-registration so you can handle the questions and forms ahead of time instead of when you're sobbing from just losing your pet. I had pre-registered Tink with them quite some time ago; when I called them yesterday they pulled her file up right away and had all the info they needed. The woman on the phone was very sweet and compassionate, and the man who took care of us when we got there was very kind too. It was very welcome treatment during such a painful time. We picked up Tink's ashes 05/23/13. The urn is beautiful. I'm at work today and grieving really hard; I've printed out some of my favorite pictures of Tinker from many years ago (she's was 16 when she died and I realized yesterday that it's been years since I saw her strong and healthy and fit) to look at and it's been really helpful to re-direct my thoughts and emotions. It's been a big help to bring those older memories back to the forefront and I recommend it to help you through your grief--especially at first when it's all so painfully fresh. read more

I wish I had learned about Dr. Erin May much much earlier. I take nothing away from the kind professionals at our neighborhood animal hospital. But going there was Daba's greatest bladder-draining dread. Our 17 year old grey Manx kitty had already made several trips after being diagnosed with lymphoma and we did not want her to have to go back there in her final days. They told us about Dr. May and she made time in her busy schedule to come to our home and help Daba make a dignified, peaceful exit. We are so grateful to her, not only for her professionalism and expertise, but also for her gentle energy, kindness and respect. Let me start by saying I'm a nurse and I'm picky when it comes to healthcare. Wow, all I can say is read below. This doc has worked her rear off to not only turn around my perception, but my animals lives. I owe her big time!! She has been such a support with my very disabled pup. I has vomiting issues with my kitties and was fixing to go through surgery and expensive food with one of them and Dr. May suggested a diet change and they are all better. My dog who has been in pain for years has mobility again and acts like a puppy. He even runs and jumps around. If you don't know where to turn, turn to Dr. May. She is honest. I was looking around here and happened to see Dr. May's name and I just had to leave a review. I have not used her mobile service but earlier in her career she worked at our local Vet's office and treated our dog a few times. She was great and we were bummed when she left. Back in early 2011, during a routine checkup Dr. May felt something that concerned her, ran some tests whose results suggested cancer. This was in a very difficult area (and personal) and may not have been found by every Vet. She gave us great information and referred us to a specialist which eventually followed with surgery and subsequent treatments. This particular cancer had very low success rates and it was a tough road but our dear dog had another 3+ years with us thanks to Dr. May's competence and thorough exam. She transferred soon after and I never had the opportunity to thank her. So Dr. May, if you read this, Abbey and her parents thank you so much for helping to give us 3 more years together! read more

Wow. She's as incredible as all of these reviews say. My dog is at the end, but not yet. Dr. May came for a wellness check. It cost $50 for the house call, but the bill was cheaper than a normal visit to the vet. She pushed the things she really thought my dog needed and didn't push the things that were less important. she stayed a long time and it was a comfortable visit. i just sat around feeding my baby a bottle while she did her exam. Her assistant is equally wonderful. i should've done this a long time ago. remember her for every day prevention as well as the big stuff. read more

One word to describe Dr. Erin May: Amazing. I needed to travel across the country with my two cats, only to discover the youngest was not going in that carrier, NO WAY NUH UH. My regular vet was no help. I emailed Dr. May after hours, explained the situation, and she was just wonderful. I have nothing but good to say about her. She's extremely patient, takes the time to answer any questions you may have, and I think would sooner cut off her own hand than recommend a procedure your pet does not need. We are pretty experienced in dealing with vets, animal hospitals and have run the gamut from highly vaunted doctors who don't really have a clue to serious medical centers, such as the one in NYC, which is first rate, but largely impersonal. This young woman has the uncommon sense of a real healer, with significant medical knowledge to back her; she has empathy, both for the animal and the owner, but is entirely professional. I was surprised at the level of care she could provide as a 'mobile' doc. The stress of taking an animal to a vet takes a toll on the pet and the owner- all of that goes away with a house call. I needed a new mobile vet for my cat because my previous mobile vet moved away. My cat Peanut has had a lot of health issues and does not tolerate going to the vet anymore. Dr. May and her assistant were amazing. Although Peanut was still not very cooperative, they were able to give her her rabies vaccine without TOO much trouble. I also adopted a puppy a few days before Dr. May's visit and she had no problem adding her exam into the visit as well. My puppy has mange and ringworm and they were able to do skin scrapings and other tests on her. Dr. May was extremely thorough and spent almost 2 hours at my house with my pets and answered all of my questions about their needs. Dr. May is also very good at communication by email in between visits. I recommend Dr. May 200% if you are looking for a great mobile vet who really wants the best for your animals. read more
