Dr. Alice Epitropoulos wanted nothing to do with us unless we shelled out $900 for a LipiFlow…read moretreatment, which needed repeating every 9-12 months, gave no guarantee of success and insurance won't cover. She tells my husband that she knows it is an expensive treatment and because she "likes us", she will do us a favor by knocking the price down from what she normally charges from $1500 to $900. We both felt the doctor seemed sketchy, so after the visit we called ophthalmologists in Columbus that carried Lipiflow and they all told us that the current procedure rate is $900. We also called TearScience, the manufacturer of LipiFlow and found out that she is a paid consultant for them. She never disclosed this to us. She also recommended, to the point of being pushy, an expensive brand of fish oil where she also receives compensation from the manufacturer as a consultant. We didn't feel like we got treated for anything, it was just sales pitch after sales pitch. Doctors are supposed to be caring and helpful. Dr. Epitropoulos is only in this for your money.

I had an experience similar to C W. I waited for more than two weeks to see Dr. E as she provided…read morecare to me years ago when I had multiple eye surgeries. Recently my eye was flaring up, as it ached and pained. She was nice, asked about my health history. she made my eye hurt more as her touch was not light during the examination. she did not explain what caused the discomfort besides noting I had dry eye (Duh like I do not already know. yet she never mentioned my eye's inflamation). she called up some pharmacy and asked them to make an eye drop for me, and did not explain what drop it was. then she recommended lipiflow to me which is not covered by insurance, and said she can get me in very quickly (without waiting for two weeks!!!). When I checked out, my co-pay was a whooping $110 which I had never paid this much before, and the eye drop is 4-small-vial of albumin solution that cost $75! the omega 3 company called me the next day and offer to send me the supplement at $150 for 90 day supply! One more company will be calling me shortly and I am sure the medicine Dr. E recommended will undoubtedly not be cheap. I know I deserve it but does she have my best interest in mind? I can not help but wonder.
