A beauty salon experience was supposed to leave you feeling blissed out -- with this one you will be stressed out instead. I'm new to Manhattan Beach, so I bought a handful of Groupons to try out different facialists. The manager at this Manhattan Beach location of Dr. Laser (Alexandra) is extremely rude. I arrived on time and sat down in the waiting area. When for over 5 minutes I was not even greeted, let alone checked in, I got up and kindly asked if they were running really behind. Alexandra said "We are not running behind at all" in a snappy tone. Another 10 minutes later, she finally checked me in -- while making faces and being dismissive. As if she were doing me a favor. I was finally checked in and ready to start 15 minutes past my appointment time. The esthetician was a sweet lady and while the service was not outstanding, it was good. However, the Groupon said it's a 60 minute facial. The treatment lasted 40 minutes. I guess with the 15 minute wait time I had 5 minutes left to ponder if I would ever be back... Not that I needed more than 5 seconds to know that this was my first and last time. read more

I have been coming here for almost 2 years for laser hair removal. I am disappointed with some recent bad experiences. During bikini laser hair removal, Nurse Bich (pronounced "Bick") accidentally lasered a spot in an area that I did not want lasered. Now I have a small bald spot. I consulted with a dermatologist who said that it may be permanent. Bich also missed a majority of my bikini. When I asked her about it, she said "No no because I did fast and you don't notice." Trust me, I have had laser hair removal on my bikini area over a dozen times and I know which spots are hit and which spots aren't. She missed an entire zone, huge area! Even worse, she refused to do the area when I showed her what was missed. The only nurse that I have been happy with is Heather. Bich and a few other nurses have done a poor job targeting the bikini line and I have seen no results from the work of these nurses. On a positive note, Heather is an amazing nurse and very skilled at laser hair removal. She is thorough and listens to feedback. She takes a lot of time to understand exactly what boundaries you want lasered and targets stubborn hairs that have not been receptive in past treatments. I will make sure to only request Heather in the future. read more

Ugh, I keep hoping my experience here will change but unfortunately it just goes from bad to worse after probably 8 or so visits. I initially came in due to a Formosi deal for a facial and after a good initial facial experience, I was basically pushed into buying a facial package for around $500. Fine. They're definitely EXTREMELY pushy at every visit to try to get you to continue to buy more treatments and keep trying to sell you before they let you book your next appointment. But here's the prime source of my frustration...on my second or so visit I really my esthetician, Miriam. She made great recommendations and wasn't scared to get into the extractions. After that I tried to book all my appointments with her which I was assured was no problem. In 5 subsequent appointments, only 2 have been with her...Two were with someone I asked to never be paired with again after the first experience and yet it happened again despite specifically requesting Miriam. I normally go into the Manhattan Beach location, but my schedule changed, so I went into the Santa Monica location today specifically to see Miriam. I showed up, only to get someone else! When I mentioned it, the girl at check out very rudely told me that there was no guarantee I would get her since schedules change. I understand that, but I've never been somewhere where they don't call to inform you of a schedule change. I would have much rather just scheduled for a different time to get my appointment with the person I prefer. She also literally said, "so what do you want?" in a super rude tone at check out. My experience here is always so inconsistent. Some estheticians give an awesome massage with the facial, some won't touch you at all for extractions, it's extremely frustrating to not be able to get the service you want considering the amount you pay. And on top of that, I get consistently really rude service both in person and when I call to schedule. It's just unbelievable how poorly they treat customers. If I could just get a refund and forget the other 3 treatments I would. read more

Spa treatment or sales presentation? My fiancé and I came in for 60 minute facials which we got on a groupon. After reading reviews we were excited about getting facials done here but the experience was subpar. What we thought would be a relaxing and enjoyable experience was anything but. Both of our aestheticians seemed more focused on selling a package of facials (for half price) rather than focusing on providing a relaxing and enjoyable experience for us. Only 10 minutes in, she started talking about the packages. Also, our 60 minute facials were 35 and 40 minutes respectively. So glad we didn't pay full price. And after my facial, my aesthetician disappeared, never returning to ask me how my experience was or offer me water. NEVER AGAIN. When I asked the lady at the front desk why our 60 minute facials were way under 60 minutes, her response was that the facials are up to 60 minutes but depending on the person, everyone requires a different amount of time. me: *Blank stare* She then went on to ask us if we'd like to purchase a package deal of facials for half price. Honestly, I wouldn't even pay half price for the service I received today. My pores are clean and my skin looks good but it definitely wasn't the experience we were expecting. Came here for a facial with my mom as a gift for her but I usually do facials every 4-6 months.. They were nice to accommodate same time appointment for 2 but I had to call 2 weeks advance to get a same time appointment for 2 people. The facial was really relaxing and amazing. The Esthetician got all my blackheads out and gave me an amazing neck and chest massage which really helped a lot after having a long week at work. The steamy facial felt great for my skin as well. My mother also really loved it and seem to really connect with her Esthetician! What's great also that my Esthetician gave me great recommendations on what to use. Except I forgot to get that list she had for me before I left! The only thing I didn't like about it was when I came out i felt like i had to be forced to buy a package. Which I hate being pushed. As a business owner myself I understand sales is an important thing for a business, therefore I understand the importance of this. But when I'm being pushed and I prefer to come at my own pace and the reception has a huge attitude because I don't want to sign up for a package makes me feel turned off to not want to come again. I go to the Manhattan Beach and Santa Monica location. I love working with Alessandra she is very personable and hears your concerns. I really enjoy the professionalism from the nurses Brandy and Heather. I have done a Vi peel, 8 facial rejuvenation, and 8 laser hair removal on my legs, bikini, and arms pits and I've gotten great results! I have attached my before and after pictures for my face and working with the nurses has been amazing! I would highly recommend anyone to go to Dr. Laser. I had an appointment for 12:30 pm so I arrived 12:15 when i checked in on the front desk this lady ( supposedly the manager) told me that they would not be able to see me.... what? I like establishments with great management and customer service! After my last review, the owner, Joe, reached out to me and explained the laser process in detail and apologized for the misunderstanding with the staff. He gave me a pretty good incentive to try the place out and I was able to make an appointment pretty easily with Tanya. The day of the appointment, Betty, greeted me with a big smile and she was super friendly. Charlene did my treatment and talked me through the process and made sure I was comfortable throughout the whole treatment. Their machine seems a bit older than the other ones that I've seen, and Charlene said they had new machines but these were more effective. The first few zaps felt a little weird - the feeling was cool instead of hot/burning. Charlene then told me that the machine also sprays cooling mist to make it more comfortable for patients. Pretty neat! It did still sting a bit when it got to the more sensitive areas, but they provide aloe in the room so you could pile those on after treatment. A few days after my treatment, Charlene called to follow up and make sure everything is going well. She was very friendly and helpful and offered me a smaller treatment plan since I've already had a few laser hair sessions done in the area. Today was supposed to be my 6-week return treatment, but I didn't take her up on the offer because...I seriously have NO hair left to laser! More effective indeed! Ya stay away. Kind of a greedy business. I'll explain why lower down. I made the mistake of skimming the agreements and bought a package after I used a Formosi voucher for a laser skin rejuvenation treatment. I got a package of 6 and the lady eagerly signed me up for a credit card through them and then was happy to send me on my way. The next day my skin is sore and red and I hate the way my face feels so I called to cancel and get the information about the credit company so I can talk to them. Of course they don't answer the phone so I sent an email. A very nice, complementing, professional email of my time there. The reply email can only be described as having the tone of a snobby spoiled brat going "HA we get to keep your money because there are no refunds" only store credit. I can see they are sideways and greedy specifically because the front desk lady failed to point out the agreement of no refunds for packages and I was very obviously on the fence about getting it. I kept saying I wasn't sure and I needed more time to think about it. She just let me be conned. Now they're going to ruin my credit and ultimately any future chance I have at buying a house. Stay away. Or at least be 100% sure of what you want and don't be conned. read more

Eh...marginally mediocre at best. The facial was advertised as 60 minutes but barely lasted 40 minutes. The esthetician, Jasmine, did not appear or act like she liked her job. Jasmine made no effort to explain what she was doing or applying to my face. It would be nice to know and general courtesy to advise the customer what is being applied to his/her face (mask, exfoliant, ticking zapper? Etc) without having to ask (multiple times). I explained to Jasmine in the beginning regarding the area to focus on after she asked me and she overlooked it so I had to remind her at the end. I got vibe Jasmine did not like about her job from her attitude and demeanor throughout the 40 minutes and that's unfortunate. First impressions are everything and Jasmine's service, attitude and demeanor was very, very average overall. 3/5 stars is generous. I was a juvederm/voluma virgin (haven't said that word in a long time ha!), so I was little nervous. ****inner dialogue - for the love of God, please don't let me look like a freak!!!! OH MY GOODNESS!!! I look 15 years younger and I just celebrated my 39th birthday. I compared a photo of myself taken when I was 23 and one taken days before my 39th birthday (obviously before my treatments) I couldn't believe how much my face has changed in the last 15 years. Alessandra, Melania, Jasmine and Brandy are absolute gems. Alessandra is always so helpful, patient and professional. Melania is fantastic as well. Jasmine gives the best facials!! Brandy is just an angel. I swear Brandy is an artist. This woman is gifted. She injected the juvederm and voluma into my face, essentially reversing time.
