    Before and after (1week)

I have had melasma for years and tried everything possible on earth to treat it lol After my second pregnancy, my melasma hit hard. I was hopeless that I couldn't change this condition. I met Kellie at Manhattan Dermatology and she asked me to try this peeling procedure called Melanage Ultra Peel. It's been only 1 week and I have a completely different skin. I am shocked!! I can't thank Kellie and Kim enough for changing my self esteem and showing me that it was possible to have nice skin again without dark spots!!

    This office is seriously stunning!!

First of all, this place is absolutely stunning. Not only is the office aesthetically pleasing, but their team is amazing. The front office staff is always friendly. The nurses are always accommodating and caring. And - they all have amazing skin!! Now THAT is the sign of a good dermatology practice, friends!! I see Natalie for all my laser and Botox needs. She is extremely knowledgeable regarding skin care, and gives me exactly what I need to revive and revitalize my dry and acne prone skin! I also see Jacqueline Tran for medical visits. She is great at providing a simplistic yet comprehensive plan that integrates holistic and traditional medicine, such as recommending probiotics in addition to prescription medications. She has done wonders to address my acne and peri oral dermatitis. Now, onto the products! I can't say enough about the daily brightening pads. My only complaint is that you can't buy in bulk, because they're my everyday staple! Additionally, the hello glow vitamins done wonders for my hormonal acne! All in all, you're in great hands here. From the friendly staff, to the gorgeous atmosphere, and the wonderful treatments they offer - you'll feel lucky to be a patient here.

I've heard great reviews about this practice. I finally went into the office today to purchase the daily brightening pads. The online price is listed as $142. The front desk clerk checked me out and charged me $180.68. I showed her the online price of $142 and I was told they were "in the process of updating the prices." Before proceeding with my purchase she went to verify with the office manager Kimberly. While I was standing in the office Kimberly updated the online price to $165. Kimberly didn't come out of her office and apologize for the price discrepancy. As a retail pharmacy manager, I understand that mistakes happen, but I always APOLOGIZE for the error and honor the posted price. I was disappointed with the lack of customer care and concern. It was basically told "no this is the new price do you want the item or not?" I did purchase the pads, however, moving forward, I will take my business to a practice where service is a priority. *edited to attach screenshot of today's pricing online **In response to the reply: If you click on the screenshot I attached of your online pricing you will see that it was from today at 12:44pm. I checked the price online and called the office on my way in to ensure Apple-pay was an approved form of payment. If the pricing was updated (in store and online) it would have reflected that.

I want to start off by saying I have been a patient of Dr Magoverns for over 10 years. Like the other reviews, the front office staff is rude and I have seen patients come in angry letting them know they are late due to the horrible parking situation. Most recently, my skin was damaged here during a laser procedure. I contribute it to the provider being rushed and not paying attention during the procedure (she was talking about her divorce and the bachelor). A week after the laser, I contacted the office and let the know that my skin was damaged and I now have hyperpigmentation, broken blood vessels and increased redness, which is the opposite of what this laser should do. I sent photos and they told me to come back so they could treat me further. I declined as I no longer trusted them and did not want more damage done to my skin. This is a dermatologist's office and they worsened my skin condition and they do not care. The reason I know this is based off of my communication with their "operation manager/ social media & marketing" employee. My communication with her has been concerning since she has emailed me with wink face emojis after knowing what occurred. This is who is in charge of interacting with their patients.

Unlike many professional offices, the waiting room looks like a stylish, upscale yet unpretentious doctor's office, not a skincare products boutique. Reception told me that the dermatologist had set aside a specific amount of time for my appointment and that I would need to reschedule. I understood and rescheduled the appointment for a couple of days later. I attended the rescheduled appointment and paid my bill in full for the procedure at the office. At no point during my initial phone call, when I rescheduled, or when I was physically in the office for treatment was I told that I would be charged a no-show fee. This was especially confusing because I had called ahead to explain that I would be late and was instructed by the office to reschedule. Weeks later, I was charged a $50 fee for the original appointment. If there was a cancellation or late-arrival policy that applied in this situation, it should have been clearly communicated when I called or when I was in the office for my rescheduled appointment. I could have understood the charge if it had been explained at the time, but instead I received a message weeks later stating that finance charges would be applied to an unpaid no-show balance I was unaware of. Very disappointing experience. It feels like the practice is more interested in collecting $$ fees than treating patients fairly. I would recommend looking elsewhere.

Most can be treated with freezing. Recently, one of these 'potential' melanomas tested positive and was located along the top of my eyebrow, requiring Mohs surgery. I have had one other of these procedures on my cheek done by another dermatologist, and it left a pronounced hole that I have attempted to cover with my beard. However, the placement of this one was much more concerning as I imagined it leaving a gaping scar above my eye. My stepfather had one done on his forehead that was difficult to miss every time you looked at him. The Mohs procedure was quick and painless, with short waits to hear whether the test samples' margins were clear of cancer cells. Dr. Hick then did an amazing job of keeping the incision small, even though it required two attempts to clear all the margins. What I most want to brag about this professional is the care and time he took to suture with tiny thread, which, to my surprise, left me with a scar that very few people have noticed. I am impressed by his demeanor, knowledge, and skills as a physician. I highly recommend Dr. Jeffery Hick to anyone seeking a skilled dermatologist.

In short, I was more than unhappy and the results were far from acceptable. UNTIL, that is, I went to see Dr. Rackett. In a short visit, he checked every inch of my skin for a cancer screening, and we DISCUSSED the results. That hadn't been done at previous places. Unfortunately, my experience inside the office was a completely different story. From the minute I walked in, something just felt off. The first person who greeted me at the front desk simply asked, "What's your name?" No hello, no welcome, no "How are you?" Just straight to business. I actually said, "Hey, how are you doing?" and had to repeat myself. It almost seemed like he was surprised that I was asking how he was doing. It might sound like a small thing, but first impressions matter, especially in a medical office. A simple "Hi, welcome in" goes a long way. The office was also extremely quiet. I didn't see any other patients, there wasn't much going on, and the same elevator-type music seemed to be playing on a loop. I sat in the lobby for about five minutes while I could see staff talking in the back. Eventually, someone came out and brought me into an exam room. This is where things became even more uncomfortable. I was told to undress and stand on a white cloth because the floor was cold. No gown or robe was offered. I had to specifically ask for one, and the response was basically that they normally don't give patients one. I said I wanted one, and they eventually gave me one. That was a big red flag for me. If you're asking someone to undress for an exam, providing some type of covering seems like a pretty basic patient-comfort thing. Then the doctor came in with another person holding an iPad. I had no idea who she was at first. I asked and was told she was there to help document everything. Maybe that's standard for this office, but when someone is potentially about to examine you while you're undressed, I think an introduction and explanation beforehand would be appropriate. At that point, I had already made up my mind. I wasn't comfortable getting undressed or doing a full exam. I stayed dressed, asked the doctor to look at the two specific things I came in for, and kept the visit short. When I checked out, they asked if I wanted to schedule another appointment because the doctor wanted to see me again in 30 days. I declined. But here's the part that really sealed it for me. About 30 minutes after I left, I actually called the office because I wanted to give the doctor feedback directly rather than just go online and write a review. I asked to speak with her and was told she wasn't available. I left my phone number and asked for a callback. They even asked what the call was about, and I specifically said I wanted to provide feedback about my experience. I never received a call back. That was red flag number four. The frustrating part is that none of my concerns were about the building, parking, or even the doctor's medical knowledge. It was the overall experience and the lack of basic communication and warmth. Say hello when someone walks in. Explain what's going to happen before asking them to undress. Offer them something to cover themselves with. Introduce the additional person entering the exam room. And if a patient calls afterward specifically wanting to provide feedback, at least acknowledge the call. Those little things matter. I left feeling less like a patient and more like I was just being moved through a process. And when I tried to give the office an opportunity to hear that feedback directly, nobody called me back. Based on my experience, I won't be returning, and with the number of dermatologists available throughout Torrance and the South Bay, I personally wouldn't recommend this office.
