This business strip has only tattoos and piercing mainly. This was the third business we visited. The front guy short and older was cool, he went back to find me an artist. He introduced a guy with long blond hair who instantly didn't look welcoming it was not a good vibe I felt. I began to tell him what I wanted and showed him what I had drawn up for reference. He said he can't do my tattoo in small text. He kept saying it would have to be this big with showing "this big" with his hands and the text size ( yes text size with his fingers) I couldn't compute or visualize the size on my arm, so I started saying this size and would show him, he seemed annoyed bc we kept talking about size and he actually gave me a tone of THIS SIZE, how many times do I have to show you! So I said you can touch me to show me bc I can't visualize the size you are showing on my arm. (#1 bc it was huge in comparison to what I wanted) he said he don't touch people without permission so he didn't just want to assume, he also didn't ask.. so this added to me getting the vibe he didnt want to do my tattoo. So he actually was meaning to upsize the small tattoo I wanted to a huge half inner arm tattoo for $240!!! The text was Let it Go Let it Out on top of each other. I didn't like his demeanor of not being interested and him changing the tattoo to such a large piece bc it would eventually bleed. Then he wanted to tell me, you'll find someone to do it but I don't bc it eventually bleeds after about two years and doesn't look right. Which another artist at a different shop said the same thing but he ended up doing it larger than I wanted but much smaller than this guy tried to say it had to be(without him thinking it would bleed later). See my other review of that tattoo. Since I felt from the beginning he didn't want to help me, didn't want to touch me or just show real interest in helping me understand the size needed, him also turning my small dainty typewriter font with 6 words on top of each into a mini sleeve tattoo for $240!! I chose to leave. I don't know if he was up charging me to make more money and using the future bleeding as an excuse, but I just didn't think a small tattoo couldn't be done smaller than what he said with also maintaining the integrity of his work and style. I felt he just wasn't interested in helping me. Let It Go Let it Out or Let it Go Girl Let it Out. = $240 increased size to 2/3 of my inner arm! No thank you. read more

This place came highly recommended. I was on vacation and decided I wanted a tattoo. I made it to the place near closing. I clearly ask if I could get a tattoo and the guy said yes. Too bad his body language was saying no and please go home. There was a person in front of me. The guy said we could do a small tattoo. I picked out a small tattoo just for the guy to say can your come back tomorrow. I politely said no. Bad customer service. It would have been better to say no from the start. read more

My husband and I came here to get our tongues pierced. We were both nervous, but everyone at Dr. Piercing made us so comfortable. We weren't nervous once they explained everything to us and showed us all the tools we were going to use. This was something we had talked about for years and I am glad we finally did it together. The employees took us both back together and sat us in chairs next to each other. The place was packed (it was about 8pm on a summer June afternoon) we did not at all feel rushed. Amir took such good care of me. Ok, first of all, I walked into a few other studios (In Myrtle beach, all the studios are grouped together in one strip, so weird! Zoning...) none of them felt right until this place! Dr.Ink is CLEAN, and full of light. The girl had a big sweet smile on her face when we walked in. She was warm and welcoming. She told me it would be about 30-40 mins, which was fine. Amir would be the one available... So my friend and I took a look at his portfolio. His line work was many times intricate, and well done. I felt good about him. Amir came to say hello, I like his energy right away. I don't want someone with a shitty attitude putting something on me forever! I gave him the picture my love had drawn, a little black heart to go on the back of both of my arms. He said he would eat lunch quickly and be right back with us. He joked a lot, and worked really quickly. My friend was jewish, and we talked about his homeland of Israel. The work looked exactly like the heart drawn on paper, each of them flawless. + Dr.Ink has a limo that will pick you up for your appointment! Now THAT'S CLASSY! My brother and I walked in every tattoo shop on Seaboard to feel the vibes and peek inside to check for cleanliness, we quickly decided on Dr Ink as the best choice! Amir did a great job on my second tattoo, I cant remember why exactly i didnt have a print out of what I wanted but they gave me plenty of time to find it online there and print it out and get it sized up right He worked quietly and when times got tense and could feel my muscles tensing up he would give me a quick squeeze of my upper traps to release those muscles from tension, (As a massage therapist, I sincerely appreciated this kind gesture) It healed nicely and still looks great about a year later -1 star because some chick kept walking in & out of his room to check on the status (Im assuming they were going out) and he would keep telling her how much longer, she was a friendly girl so it didnt bother me as much but still kind of rude, and distracting, go take a seat lady! Bottom line- I would go back to Amir and I recommend everyone talking about getting a tattoo to check him out My brother had a lady that I think was a guest, he was instructed to choose his font from a computer as he was getting his sons name His turned out OK, I look at it sometimes and think man, I was lucky to get Amir lol When we left he said he really wanted the name freestyled not some generic font on the computer, perhaps his mistake for not speaking up for what he really wanted Bottom line- will return to Dr Ink for my next tattoo (please excuse my punctuation, my period key isnt working) :0) read more

Mixed review since I've gotten different things. The piercing place was comfortable, clean, and nice. Jackie did my nose and made me feel super comfortable and it looked great. I totally recommend Dr. Piercing. Dr. Ink is definitely not your best bet in Myrtle Beach. It's overpriced and kind of dirty and some of the artists there were kind of weird and creepy, leaving you feeling pretty gross and uncomfortable. The ladies in there were very accommodating and informative in letting me know the danger in getting a piercing while nursing. None the less I got a couple of new jewels for existing piercings! So I had an awful nose piercing experience at "piercing passion" which was connected to the tattoo parlor called "ink wave" (go to there yelp page to see that horror story) The piercing was half out of my nose and bleeding a lot. I was in so much pain. We went back to this plaza which was all tattoo/piercing parlors (how weird) my mother went into the shop to speak with the guy working there and he wanted to see me. I walked in and he told me he could help me out. He brought be to the back room where piercings were done, and took a look at it. he cleaned it up and removed the nose ring that was previously put in. He cleaned me up and fixed my piercing. it was painless! he was so so helpful and friendly. His name was Brandon. I RECOMMEND HIM! He asked me my favorite color and gave me that color diamond nose ring. how thoughtful! he did such a good job and made it look awesome. Yesterday my mom and I had an appointment to go in and get a tattoo that we've been wanting for years now. We came in, filled out the paper work and was greeted by Zap, who didn't even give us his name. He pulled out the iPad and started showing us fonts for the tattoo we wanted. I had looked ahead of time at fonts I liked and was showing him pictures to which he said "the thing is I don't know what that font is called, so you're going to have to pick one on the iPad unless you want to sit here and sift through them for hours". That didn't sit right with me, but my mom and I began browsing other ones. In addition to the one my mom and I wanted, I wanted "1941" really small on my forearm. Zap seemed really uninterested in us from the beginning. After five minutes of my mom and I looking through through fonts, Zap walked off and sat on the couch scrolling through his phone. Obviously, since this is both me and my moms first tattoo we were nervous. After another ten minutes of me trying out different ones, the guy at the front counter noticed I was anxious and started to try and help me pick one. He recommended things other people got, what he thought looked nice, advice on picking one. He showed more interest in us than our actual tattoo artist who was still laying on the couch. Finally I told Zap I had it narrowed down to two. He said "well I have to know which one before I tattoo you". I laughed. He didn't. No shit, thank you for that. I asked him if I could see it on a stencil on me. I had picked out the font for the "1941" tattoo, but I just couldn't decide on the other one. He hesitated and then said "yea" and walked off into the back room. After a couple minutes he said we could come back into a different room. We walk in and he says "alright we're gonna do your wrist one first". First of all, I said I wanted it on my forearm, so thanks for listening to me there. Second of all, we hadn't even talked about sizes and he already had the stencil printed. I told him I actually wanted it on my forearm, and that I didn't want it really big. He huffed and said "alright" and got up and left the room. Didn't tell us where he was going, didn't ask me what size I wanted. I told my mom I wanted to leave. He obviously did not care about this or us at all and I did not want to put the responsibility of staining my skin forever in the hands of someone who clearly cared so little. So I got up and left and my mom stayed back to let him know we wouldn't be getting the tattoos. He apologized for showing his frustration, but said that if we weren't sure on what font we wanted, we should come in early to pick them out. Even though our original appointment was at 6:30 and we came in at 6, I guess that wasn't enough time? He did give my mom a mini lesson on picking fonts that weren't so loopy if we wanted it smaller, as the loops tend to bleed together, which I appreciated because he wanted us to know for future reference. Honestly, I get why he was so uninterested in me. I'm just a basic college girl with gold dangly earrings and white sneakers that came in and wanted a small tattoo that is nothing compared to the work he does. Zap is an artist, his portfolio is extremely impressive. The only reason I knew his name is because I portfolio stalked all the artists that work at Dr. Ink. I did that because this tattoo means a lot to me and I wanted to make sure the person that tattooed me was good, which is why I picked Dr. Ink. I also get that tattoos are literally what Zap does for a living and is surrounded by them every day. But I'm not a tattoo artist, tattoos are not a normal in my world, and this was big for me. My mom has a lot of health conditions, so she spent a year with her doctor trying to figure out how she could get off blood thinners so we could get tattoos. She came off them last month, so the minute I came into town for spring break, we made the appointment. The tattoo we wanted was "all the numbers". My mom and l say that we love each other "all the numbers" because we used to go back in forth with the sappy and cheesy "I love you a million", "no I love you a billion", and then one day six year old me looked at her and said "well mom, I love you all of the numbers". It's stuck since. The other tattoo, "1941" is for my grandmother who was born in that year and has Alzheimer's, V-fib, diabetes, you name it, she's got it. She doesn't have much longer and I decided I wanted a piece of her with me always. This is all context for how important these tattoos were to me. So while my stupid little tattoos meant nothing in Zaps world, they meant everything to me. If you know exactly what you want and you want someone to do it well, go to Dr. Ink. If you're a nervous and indecisive tattoo first-timer, go somewhere else. This isn't me bashing Dr. Ink and their credibility, because I didn't see a single tattoo on any review platform that wasn't beautiful and well done, it's just an FYI to next girl like me. read more

We were on vacation with friends and wanted to find a good tattoo place. Unfortunately this place was NOT it. We made an appointment to start at 11, we got there and had to wait 45 minutes just to get started. My two friends and I had a small shell design already ready and was told they couldn't do color or make it any smaller. After waiting another 30 minutes they had one person done, then without even saying anything to us the tattooist sat down and ate his breakfast right in front of us! We waited another 20 minutes and then just decided to leave. Horrible service and the guys working there were assholes. We even heard the receptionist tell another customer that they don't do stupid tattoos and to go somewhere else! Yesterday I went to here to get my very first tattoo and cannot stop thinking about what an awesome experience I had!! I have been wanting this tattoo (a small wrist tattoo of the word 'Trust') for a couple of years now but was still extremely nervous. Like, could hardly breathe hands shaking nervous! I breathlessly explained to Brent my idea and used the adjectives "Dainty, but not too girly, edgy, but not hard core" etc. and just knew he was going to have no idea what I was talking about, but to my surprise he nodded confidently and said "Give me a second." When he showed me the sketch it wasn't what I had originally pictured - it was WAY better beyond anything I could explain with my lame adjectives lol. Anyway my point is, this tattoo is SO me, and I couldn't believe Brent was able to capture that after just meeting me for 5 min (Mad Skills!) He also, gave me great advice on placement and size which since I've never had a tattoo before was really appreciated! Arik, did the actuall tattooing and was super nice and gentle, he could tell I was nervous and made an effort to make me feel comfortable. Also, my best friend was allowed to come in with me which was total relief as I needed someone to laugh with and take pics! The space was open, clean and bright, I felt comfortable as soon as I walked in. Overall, I'm so happy with my tattoo I could cry! I was super worried that it wouldn't look perfect, but it does! Even though my tattoo idea was small and simple they treated it with care and respect . Thank you Brent and Arik for making my first tattoo so special!! There were a bunch of tattoo shops on the strip but I'm so glad I went to Dr Ink!! I can't review their piercings because we didn't end up with one. The person working was one of the RUDEST people I've ever had the displeasure of meeting. He seemed to have NO interest in our business, so we didn't give it to him. Piercings by Jackie next door was a close second. Not sure what's wrong with these people...maybe we aren't locals? Zap is the GOAT! My lil sister and I were visiting Myrtle for the weekend. We had such an awesome vacation we decided to commemorate our trip with tattoos. It was her first time. She got a cute sun on her ribs and I got a moon on my forearm. Zap made her feel very comfortable and his too was so chill. Slightly Stoopid radio is my jam! I loved how quick but also detailed his work was. I've been to lots of shops all over and this place is top notch. Cute guy at the counter was super friendly and welcoming! LOVE these guys! I've gotten several piercings at DR. Piercing and my 2nd tat at Dr. Ink. All the guys are super chill and willing to talk you through stuff or just chat. Have stopped in just to chat and say hi to Brandon a couple times. Always felt comfortable getting pierced as everyone clearly knows what their doing and they pull fresh needles out right in front of you. Every piercing I got was as painless as it could have possibly been. The only negative thing I have to say is the selection of earrings, etc. is interesting, but kind of small. I had made an appointment for an altered/custom tat, but chickened out, only to call and reschedule again (I'm kind of a pain in the ass, I know). They were super nice about it and Amir ended up doing my tattoo, taking everything about the kind of color palate and look I was going for to heart. The line work is simply beautiful and, although he forgot an apostrophe, I love everything else about it. Wish I still lived in the area, because I'd be going back for all my piercings! (Also, the 5 for $50 party they have in the summer is SO worth it!) The parking lot of the whole strip needs to be redone though 'cause last time I was there is was COVERED in potholes, so just be careful about where you park. read more

I originally came into Dr ink to get a tattoo on my Bra line a year ago. I had Jeff. When healed, it was splotchy and slightly raised. I went back a year or so later and had Jeff again. He did a hammerhead on my back. It's fully healed now, but raised. A few days ago, I went to Another tattoo parlor and found out that my tattoos were so overworked that they scarred completely and will always be raised. I got the bra line tattoo covered up, and since it was all scar tissue, it's raised and can be easily seen through my cover up. Don't get me wrong, I love my back tattoo. But it's so raised and scarred and faded after not even a year. Highly disappointed. Don't recommend coming here. read more

I went to Dr Ink for a tattoo of the South Carolina State Flag. I have always loved the history behind the flag and thought the perfect place to get this tattoo was while I was in South Carolina. The person who tattooed me was not personable and appeared nervous once he started placing the tattoo on my arm. The tattoo I was getting was about 2 inches by 3 inches and took very little area on my upper arm. I have had multiple tattoos completed in the past and estimated that this small tattoo would take about 1 hour to complete. However, the tattoo artist stated he was finished after working for about 30 minutes. The tattoo was incomplete and he advised me to comeback in a few weeks so that he could complete the tattoo. The tattoo artist did not tell me ahead of time that this small tattoo would need to be completed in stages. This was also a problem because I was only in Myrtle Beach for a few days. I got home to Atlanta and went to a tattoo shop that was recommended by a friend. The artist in Atlanta, who had about 25 years experience and owned his own tattoo shop, was dismayed at how awful the S.C. State Flag tattoo looked. The artist / owner of the shop in Atlanta spent a little over an hour attempting to correct mistakes made by the artist in at Dr Ink Tattoo's and completing the tattoo. I will never go to Dr Ink again and recommend that other people avoid this shop. read more

This was a terrible experience and the people at dr piercing completely ripped me off. First off, the man at the front was extremely inappropriate and creepy. I went to get my second earlobe peircing which should be pretty simple. The piercer didnT Ben mark on my ears to make sure they would be even and they weren't. And when I was ready to leave the man at the front wasn't even going to tell me how to take care of my peircing even though he was supposed to. And when I asked, he replied by saying just do whatever they're earlobes they'll be fine. I ended up having to take them out and get them reprieved by someone else read more

Rushed us to decide what we wanted after he rudely said "cause I'm trying to close up early." Didn't buy a thing and walked out. Took my business next door to Jackie's Piercings. She's been in business for 20+ years and they replace your jewelry on your body for free if you purchase it from them. It smelled amazing inside! So clean. They weren't busy when we walked in and were watching tv. As soon as we stepped in they jumped right up and greeted us kindly. Check out Jackie's Piecing's next door for the experience, quality, extra service with no hassle that you are looking for. Straight forward and knowledgeable.
