Independent Remodeling - Remodeled kitchen looks awesome!

Independent Remodeling

Jim and his team at Independent Remodeling did an amazing job on our first-floor renovation,…read moreexceeding our expectations. From the start, Jim was responsive and easy to work with. He has great ideas and isn't afraid to tell you if something you want to do isn't necessarily worth the expense (which we very much appreciated). They delivered high-quality work that leveraged their knowledge and expertise to ensure our new space was functional and beautiful. Some things you look for in a general contractor and rarely find are the ability to stay close to budget and timelines, and Jim and his team did both of these! Jim does a thorough of a job putting designs/estimates together, and the only change order we had (that wasn't scope creep on our part) was for some poor electrical a previous owner did that Jim couldn't have anticipated. In addition, Jim keeps your project moving. We rarely went two days without someone at the house making progress on our project; there were no extended delays due to materials or labor issues. Jim and his team also excel at problem solving. Every project has hiccups along the way, but every issue is tackled and Jim won't stop until the solution works for you. As an example, we were having trouble matching the color of some new hardwood floors to older, existing floors in the house. He helped us put down 16 stain samples and promised we would keep trying until we got it right (and we finally did!). It was very clear our happiness was extremely important to him. If you are looking for a contractor who is honest, knowledgeable, responsive, efficient, affordable, and fun to work with, Independent Remodeling is who you should work with. It's hard to find a company you would want to use a second time, but Jim will be the first person we call for future projects in our house, and who we will recommend to friends and family if they are looking to complete a project in their home.

Shortcut everywhere- every year is a new surprise-turns out they also used a black pipe for my tub…read morefaucet. When I turned on water when remodeling was done, they actually told me the brown water that initially comes out is from the copper pipes, and I believed them! Well, years later looking at brown water, the whole faucet came off the wall. Added picture. I had to get a plumber to come in, open the wall, put an actual tub pipe in, and have someone fix the wall, plumber come back to attach faucet. He couldn't believe that Independent Remodeling didn't drive 2 min to a store to get the right pipe. They were probably behind schedule and used whatever was in the truck. The amount of things wrong with this bathroom is insane. It's great when you're done and easy to be happy because you have your house back, but if you want long term quality, do not go with this company. When doing the initial walk-through explaining what I wanted, there were no notes taken. I thought that was weird but they are professionals and I figured it's what they do. That was, until plugs ended up in the wrong spot, etc. they did something wrong while installing a very expensive showerhead and fixture, and the solution was to put gum in it which took no time to get brown with mildew. The tiles were not laid properly and are cracking. They did come back a year later to redo it, but they are the same quick job. There's something behind the tile that is not letting water flow to the showerhead, we had all new piping done with them. They also hung a giant mirror with a thin wire. They had to come back after year because it was starting to pull off the frame. They just glued it to the wall. It is now peeling from the wall and is about to fall on someone. So after just a few years I am looking for a handyman to fix all these problems which may include taking down the new tile, so I thought I would share that this probably isn't a good solution if you're looking for a long-term bathroom redo.

They designed a kitchen remodel from a blank slate (completely gutted) that could not fit a standard sized refrigerator. They didn't realize this until the kitchen was done. Brand new cabinets had to be pulled and replaced so that we could have a fridge. They installed tile in three areas (kitchen backsplash, sunroom floor, powder room floor). All three areas had to be fixed or redone. The backsplash had to be completely ripped out and redone because the spacing was off and the grout was uneven (completely missing in areas). The installer blamed the tile, but after they brought their "best" installer, there were no issues. The 225 sq ft sunroom had tiles that needed to be replaced due to uneven spacing and the grout had to be stained because it was applied incorrectly making it the wrong color. Finally, the powder room had spacing and grout issues which looked like a first time DIYer botched the job. It was "fixed" by the installer, but still looked awful. IBI gave us a partial credit and I had to hire someone else to rip out the entire floor and completely replace it. Additionally, they subcontracted almost all of the work that was done anyway (what they did themselves was unprofessional and poor quality as well - kitchen design and cabinetry). Save yourself a major headache and hire someone who can get the job done right the first time. Response to the owner: Not everything was resolved. This was just one example of the nightmare of an experience we had with your company (see additional reviews on Google and Facebook). Plus, we had to hire and pay someone else to fix your work.

Was ok but I hired someone else. Employees at design center were very helpful. Do not have much…read moreelse to add.
