After two serious car accidents, years of rehabilitation, and more medical appointments than I can count, I've become very cautious about who I trust with my care.
That's why I feel compelled to write this review about Dr. Edison Wong at MD Diagnostic Specialists.
Dr. Wong is a board-certified physiatrist who specializes in brain injury medicine, neurological recovery, and musculoskeletal injuries. What impressed me most wasn't his credentials--it was how he treated me as a person. While many providers in the accident and injury space can make patients feel like another chart or claim number, Dr. Wong never did.
Following my 2021 accident, I was dealing with a concussion, herniated discs, nerve damage, chronic pain, and a significant amount of anxiety surrounding treatment. I was hesitant to trust doctors because of previous experiences. Dr. Wong understood that immediately.
He took the time to explain imaging, test results, treatment options, and the reasoning behind every recommendation. I never felt rushed. In fact, there were times when staff had to remind him he was running behind schedule because he was spending extra time answering questions and addressing concerns.
What separates Dr. Wong from many specialists is that he doesn't seem interested in treating isolated symptoms. He looks at the entire person--biologically, neurologically, emotionally, and functionally.
One of the most impactful recommendations he made was introducing me to trauma-focused therapy. What I eventually realized was that my anxiety wasn't entirely from the accidents themselves. Much of it stemmed from the years of legal proceedings, medical scrutiny, and the feeling of constantly being watched. Through treatment, I experienced meaningful relief that I honestly didn't think was possible.
Another thing I appreciate in hindsight is his documentation. Nearly nine months after completing treatment with him, I requested my records and was amazed by the detail of his notes. He had documented conversations, symptoms, observations, and treatment considerations that I had long forgotten. It reinforced how carefully he had been listening all along.
A practical note for new patients: MD Diagnostic Specialists can sometimes require a little patience with scheduling and administration. If you have a busy calendar, schedule appointments as far in advance as possible, keep track of holidays, and cushion additional time before (for paperwork) and after (in case there is tardiness). When requesting records, ask before your final appointment if possible. If you need assistance, Christina was incredibly helpful in helping me obtain my file.
Healing after a serious accident is rarely straightforward. If you're dealing with chronic pain, a concussion, neurological symptoms, or trauma that continues long after the accident is over, Dr. Wong is absolutely worth (should be your only) consideration. We have a saying in my house, "Dr. Wong is Never Wrong"!
