We highly recommend Dr. Doucet. Both he and his staff were extremely caring, helpful and competent in diagnosing a condition (a broken jaw) missed by two prior oral surgeons. After being ignored and dismissed by the other doctors, it was Dr. Doucet, and another amazing doctor who referred us to him, Dr. Dashiell, who finally listened to our son and took his pain seriously. They were the first to mention that we might want to do a CT scan to see if there was a jaw fracture possibly not visible on standard xray. Dr. Doucet not only discovered there was a jaw fracture that both prior oral surgeons had failed to diagnose, he actually initiated a call to me and fully explained to me the details of my 21 year old son's condition and the treatment therefor thus finally putting us on the path to an end to what had been a 5 week nightmare following what should have been a simple wisdom tooth extraction. He also called the original oral surgeon who performed the extraction, during which the jaw broke, and explained to that doctor how the xray just a few days after the extraction showed that our son had been suffering with a broken jaw for 5 weeks that had gone undiagnosed despite numerous trips and calls back to that first doctor.
For 5 weeks, the oral surgeon who performed the extraction in our home town, and then a second oral surgeon in Berkeley where our son attends school, both continued to tell him that his pain was normal even though he could not tolerate the pain without Vicodin. Neither doctor considered there might be a fracture they were missing; neither mentioned there was another tool, the CT scan, for checking that. They seemed to think our son was either drug seeking or just complaining about minor pain. These two doctors refused to give our son any additional guidance or assistance other than to just wait it out with ibuprofen. They not only refused to get on the phone with me, they also failed to talk to each other. The original doctor told our son he needed to see another doctor but then refused to share medical records with the other doctors.
By the time I was calling Dr. Doucet's office I was losing hope. His staff listened and listened and listened. They worked with the original surgeon's office to get our son's records and worked with our insurance company to resolve a complicated and unusual insurance coverage issue created by the circumstances. They were always generous with their time and extremely caring--from their actions our son's treatment and recovery seemed to be as important to them as it was to us.
Because of the insurance coverage issue, I ended up talking with about 15 other oral surgeon offices. Dr. Doucet's staff stands out as uniquely caring and concerned and responsive and highly effective, just as we found the doctor himself to be. read more
