She fixed my arthritic thumb joint very successfully. She is humble but clearly highly skilled.

I am surprised that New Mexico Orthopaedics has a solid 2-star average rating…read more I've seen a few of their doctors over the past several years and have had great experiences. A few years ago, I saw Dr. John Kiburz for a meniscus tear in my right knee, and he was kind and helped a lot. I felt confident in his abilities. Today, I had an appointment with Dr. Matthew Patton for a thumb injury. Not only was he very knowledgeable about my particular hand injury, but he was also personable and treated me as an equal. Those are essential qualities for a doctor to have. Before seeing Dr. Patton for my thumb, I initially saw Kira McLemore, PA-C. She was compassionate and recommended I see one of the orthopedic surgeons here. Sure, the wait after check-in was long each time, but this is positive. These doctors are in high demand, and the ones I've seen didn't rush through my time with them. I highly recommend going here for any ortho injuries.

I really wish they did more than just orthopedic surgery here. Seriously…read more This place has outpatient surgery down to a science. You check in, they take you back and get you hooked up to everything, your family comes to hang out, the anesthesia doc comes to talk to you, you meet the OR nurses, your doctor comes to have a chat, and then you're off for surgery. After surgery, the nurses in the recovery room will have a plethora of drink options and crackers for you to have a snack while you beat off the effects of anesthesia. They'll bring your family back to sit with you, and help you get dressed. Everyone here is super duper nice, and very helpful. They even call you the day after surgery to see how you're doing, and you'll get a card signed by all of the staff a few days after as well. Not necessary, but definitely a nice touch.

Patient beware! I would definitely have your surgery done somewhere else. They will overcharge you,…read moreyou must prepay or you can't have surgery. Then when you are owed a refund they will process very slow and hold your money as long as possible and send a paper check instead of refunding your credit card. They do not care about the patient only the money. Also billing never answers their phone or returns voicemails at least not when they owe you money! Do yourself a favor and find another surgery center or not for profit hospital. This surgery center is a for profit center, it's all about the money for them.

A visit to Dr. Heckl is by far the worst medical doctor visit I have ever had in my 48 years! He…read morekept me waiting for 1.5 hours (!) in paper shorts in a windowless office. No apologies when he finally showed up. The whole visit seemed to be his excuse to get his day back on schedule. He took NO time to examine my knee. He literally said, let's just get to the end, and filled out the electronic evaluation while complaining that nobody should ever vote for President Obama and obamacare as it forces him to do paperwork now?!? plus his 6 best friends in the business have left (because of paperwork?!?). I had to stop him and ask him to feel the swelling in my knee and tell me what happened to it. His response "ah, its probably little pieces of cartilage that broke off and are healing; and don't take ibuprofen to attack swelling (even though my primary care had me doing it)" why no ibuprofen? he never bothered with that detail! As he was quite literally RUNNING out of the examining room (why?!), he did say he had some injectable "stuff" that I could get from him for an extra cost. Of course, he didn't actually give me any information as to what this injectable stuff was, what it would do for my current condition and/or if it were for future protection of the knee. STAY AWAY FROM THIS NUT JOB!

Today, I am back to skiing, racing motorcycles and doing just about everything else I did before my knees were injured. I found Dr.Heckl to be nothing but a very skilled professional and my only complaint is that he may retire before I'm done destroying my knees.
