At the time, my daughter was just five years old and absolutely terrified of the dentist. When Dr. Rachel took over Dr. Wrobel's practice, I wasn't sure what to expect, but she has been every bit as kind and patient--if not more so. She's had to do even more work, yet always takes the time to make my daughter feel safe and heard. At their very first appointment, Dr. Rachel removed her scrubs and mask, sat beside my daughter, and simply talked to her. My daughter was in tears before the cleaning even began, but Dr. Rachel gently walked her through every step, letting her hold "Mr. Thirsty" and explaining how each tool would feel. The entire staff at Platinum Dental is just as wonderful. The hygienists are so gentle and encouraging, and the reception team is always warm, welcoming, and incredibly helpful. From the moment you walk in, you feel cared for and respected--especially as a parent with a nervous child. We're so grateful to have found a dental office that not only provides excellent care, but also creates such a kind and supportive environment.

She is friendly yet professional and her hygienist was a wonderful woman also. My only comment is that... choosing the word Taro = which has so much significance to the Hawaiian people and making it part of oneʻs dentistry name is kinda hilarious.I never connected Haloa, the first brother to the kalo to be into dentistry. But I forgive her. lol. If she did her research the Kalo plant is a storied plant and holds a special place in Hawaiian culture. Thereʻs not to many venues that include the name Taro. But Like it said, I forgive but some locals may think twice before checking it out, ke aloha

You're almost done, but you take a shortcut to a fallen branch. Suddenly the ground shifts downward pulling you to a sinkhole. In just seconds, your face is about to hit the ground. Two front teeth become cracked and detached. Your day is ruined. You need to find a dentist, asap. I dialed up a lot of dentists for treatment. My regular doc was going on vacation. Early on Monday, I get a hold of Mary at Taro Dental. She books an appointment with Dr. Rachel DiPasquale, same day. Rachel asks me all the right questions. Fever, no. Heat or cold sensitivity from the damaged teeth, no. Any sign of infection from the ground? Probably not. But Rachel is aware of penicillin-resistant bacteria (MRSA), and so far, so good. Before she begins patching the teeth with composite filling, she tests my jaw muscles and neck, for any strain. She taps the two teeth to check for nerve sensitivity. Of course, they do x-rays and holistic 3D testing. Even the Governor of the State does not get treatment this good. Many times in my life I have needed dental treatment. Rachel is one of the best dentists I have ever found. Compassionate, brainy, cost effective, and complete. Taro Dental's new office at 6700 Kalanianaʻole Hwy # 102 is spotless. That is actually rare in Honolulu, and another good reason to try them out.

Anyway, i've been seeing Dr. John for over a year now and below are the high points of my trips (im better with bullet points, so, enjoy): -office is located in Aina Haina, and shares the parking lot with the mini mall there...so LOTS OF PARKING!...and shops, just in case you gotta get anything. -the two aunties at the check in desk are super friendly and have always been cheerful and happy! -the office LOVES University of Hawaii Football, evidenced by photos with players and other memorabilia in the waiting room (which i haven't waited very long in as of yet). -QUALITY SERVICE!!! i've had Dr. John and Nancy (one of the hygienists there) work on my grill. Both are very professional, make me feel comfortable and relaxed, **remember stuff about me from the visit(s) i had 6 months ago**, give great tips that no other dentist (3 prior) has ever offered, and they use the latest equipment and techniques in dental care! Check em out! They are very good people who perform great service!

That said, I think that qualifies me to write a pretty well-informed review! After all, with . . . uhh, let's just say 20+ years (haha) under Dr. Uto's care, I think I'm pretty familiar with how his practice operates! First of all, the office staff is SUPER friendly: - The front office staff have years of experience in scheduling and billing, so they know how much time to allot for procedures when you call, and they'll make sure your insurance, etc., is billed properly. - Sure, the hygienists may get on your case about your oral health habits, but that's their job. They are very thorough with their exams and give helpful recommendations on what kind of floss and toothbrush to use, as well as the proper techniques for flossing and brushing -- you know, so you won't get scolded next time! - Dr. Uto and his dental assistant, Coco, are beyond competent. When I had my wisdom teeth removed, I didn't feel a thing until the anesthesia wore off hours later. Plus, they keep you entertained with talk about the latest in University of Hawai'i sports while they work on you. Believe me, if I didn't feel that I was getting the best care here, I would've complained and taken my business elsewhere a long time ago -- I've done that with even the most reputable specialists. But I've stuck with Dr. Uto because he and his staff do a great job to make your routine (and not so routine, if necessary) oral health care as pleasant as possible. When you call, tell them I sent you!

To start, I called to book to establish care with the clinic approx 6ish months ago. Their first appt for a cleaning/X-rays took that long. So I booked it... even though that is a ridiculously long wait time for an initial appt. My parents go here and really recommended this place so I stuck it out. My appt was for today 8/4/22 @8am. I arrived at 8am- the usual. Fill out forms, wait a bit, at around 8:20ish, I was brought back to the room. The place is very nice, seems pretty high etc and it's very clean. Shelby the hygienist came in, she is fantastic. Bubbly, friendly, did a thorough cleaning and took the time to explain everything thing to me and answer any questions. This took around 1 hour. Then she said it's time for X-rays and the dentist will come in to examine. They took 17 X-rays, which seems like a lot, but they said this was the common procedure for establishing care. This took much longer than anticipated. Once the X-rays were finished it was 9:50am. At this point I've been in the clinic for close to 2 hours and I haven't even seen the dentist yet. When I asked about the timing because I have a meeting scheduled for 10 (not anticipating this appt to be 2 hrs), I found out that the dentist was still with another client. I asked to reschedule as I want to respect the time of the others who I have to meet with at 10am, knowing that I will have to now take this meeting virtually from my car. When I told the tech that, the dentist managed to break away from her other patient and do a quick examination on me. I could tell she was frustrated with the dental tech and she was very firm with her on how to read and take appropriate notes on the physical exam. To me- if your tech is struggling, it is a sign that the provider did not properly train her, but that should never be so obvious in front of the patient. It's never the techs fault, always the provider for not giving enough support/training. After the cleaning, it was stressful and took way longer than it should have. TLDR: scheduling took 6 months. Appt took 2 hrs for cleaning, X-rays, quick exam- too long. Hygienist Shelby was awesome.
