Cleared up all questions with ease and they even had an option for sugar-free eaters such as my Grandma (It was some sort of apple ice cream which she said was delicious). I walked in into this place with my daughters and the young staff did not acknowledge us. Ownership should train the young staff to say Hi or Welcome, or would you like a sample? The staff acted like they didn't want to be there. The ice cream was good. My bill came out to $9.01 and I had a 10 dollar bill. The cashier could have easily pulled one of the many pennies out of the tip jar but no she gave me 99 cents back instead of a dollar bill. If the service was great I would have given them that dollar plus a lot more. The moral of the story is work in a factory if you don't want to deal with the public. read more

We were in Alpena last week, and I remembered there was an amazing ice cream shop downtown. Thanks to Yelp I found it again! The single scoop is more like two scoops at many ice cream parlors. The flavor selection is wonderful. Service with a smile, too. I docked them one star for not having a public restroom. That's a pretty big failing for a place that serves lots of children and tourists. We had been on the road for over an hour and by the time I finished the ice cream Nature was calling me loudly. Staff wore gloves and throughly washed an ice cream scoop before dishing out from the new tub. Wowza was this place delicioso. Handmade ice cream with a plethora of flavor options. The pricing was very favorable for such a great product. Also, the people that here are very honest. I left the ice cream shop with my expensive sunglasses on the table I ate at. They are worth approximately $250. I assumed that they would have been gone when I went the next day to see if they were turned into lost and found. The staff saved them for me. Definitely did not expect that. Look, it not HUGE, but this place has all of the major flavors you could want. The quality of the ice cream is right there will Cold Stone, but WAY cheaper. We got 2x1 scoop waffle cones for $6. Their standard scoop is 6 oz which is pretty big, and affordably priced. The smell of waffle cones greets you at the door and my husband couldn't resist, and the cone did not disappoint. I noticed some fun novelty flavors like Eskimo Kisses (chocolate and coconut) and Superman ice cream. They have a few better quality Michigan souvenirs for sale too, but not so many that it overwhelms the ice cream shop. Nicely restored downtown location with tin ceilings and old fashioned style. What a disappointment. The ice cream is, well it taste like any store brand you would buy at any major retailer. It is not rich or creamy like a high quality ice cream. Vacation time for my family usually includes looking for interesting places to have ice cream. Downtown Scoops is literally in downtown Alpena (a small town) in an interesting older building. Parking was easy to find. The ice cream was excellent and a very good value. Some of my family got junior sized cones, just right fo those with smaller appetites for ice cream. The rest of us got single scoop cones/dishes, which were very large. The service was friendly and excellent. At staff person taking care of us noticed on his own that he had overcharged us and corrected it immediately (before we had paid). I likely wouldn't have known the difference. The staff take orders and write names down so that you get the right cone/dish when your name is called. There is some seating inside and more outside. read more
