Downtown Doggie has been our go-to for dog boarding and training for nearly a decade. Their team is professional and organized and we always feel assured when dropping our pup off. They have a large outdoor space and their downtown location is perfect for where we live. I decided to take my 3 year old dog to the obedience 101 class. She's pretty well trained already (she was trained when she was about 6 months old) but we decided to bring her back so she could socialize with other dogs and so she can attend some of their other classes and this class is a Prerequisite to participate in their other programs. I love that the class sizes are small. There were about 10 in the class. I also like that they start at 6:30 which gives me time to get home and get ready to go. Lastly I like that they have adequate parking. It is a very much get down to business type of class. No fluff no jokes, laughter or fun. It's obedience training. If you are looking for something pretty basic (sit, stay, down, heel, here) this one is probably okay. It's an hour every week for 6 weeks. It is cute that they take a group photo on the last day of class/Graduation and your dog also gets a certificate of completion which is nice. read more

I'm LOVING downtown doggie as a first time dog mom. My sweet pup LOVES daycare, he always comes home super tired. We are also doing obedience classes which have been super helpful because my sweet boy is insanely smart and insanely stubborn. I feel the location is very clean and I feel comfortable leaving my pup in the care of the folks at downtown doggie. I LOVE that they have such a big yard for them to play in. Such a treat for a downtown location!! My only wish is that they were able to provide updates of how he is doing. I ended up calling them at noon on his first day and they didn't provide a lot of updates of how he was doing. I'm a bit of a helicopter mom so I would love the updates but that's the only call out I would make. Would highly suggest bringing your furry friend here! read more

I took my pup to obedience 101 at Downtown Doggie and had the BEST experience! This was a 6 week group class that taught dogs (and their owners) the basics of training (sit, lay down, stay, loose leash walking). My corgi has always been a bit stubborn but the clear instruction mixed with praising with treats helped all of the commands click with him instantly! Our doggo, Oliver, has fallen in love with Downtown Doggie. He always gives the big swoopy tail wags walking into the space, because he loves all of the people who work there and greet him with a big smile. He's a high-energy dude who gets plenty of play and walks at home, but not as much socialization time with other dogs, and dog parks just don't work quite as well for him. Daycare is perfect, and Downtown Doggie has been the perfect fit for him. It's full-service and conveniently located for us, and we've been absolutely happy with boarding and grooming services, too. Oliver has the very dark nails that hide the quick, so we used to take Oliver to some different vets and groomers to get his nails trimmed, but he hated it so much. Downtown Doggie is hands down the best place I've taken my dogs, Sammie & Pierre. We did a 2 week board and train, and they came back like brand new pups! They are now more trusting of people, and walks around the city are so much more enjoyable!! After the training we did a one-on-one lesson to teach me how to reinforce what they had learned. Sam gets pretty nervous around strangers and other dogs, and most of that anxiety is now able to be managed. These ladies are awesome, can't say enough good things about them!!! read more

"Hey Cooper, wanna do to daycare today?" is all I need to say to get my little guys tail wagging so hard that his butt starts shifting back and forth. He LOVES it here. When we walk in the door, the friendly staff greets both of us by name and Cooper makes a bee-line to the back to see his friends. No lookbacks, nothing.. he's so excited. When I come back at the end of the day to pick him up, he's worn out. Usually they tell me he's been napping because he's so tired, which is one of the reasons he comes here! Socialization for my 4 month old Bich Poo plus exercise makes for a tired guy. My guy is also going through puppy obedience class at Downtown Doggie, which is going really well. Halfway through the class and I feel Jodi is doing an amazing job building upon each of the previous lessons, and that my guy is actually learning something. Everyone here is friendly, LOVES dogs and always has a smile on their face. We have been taking our 2 huskies here for 3 years. We have had one since he was a puppy and our girl is a rescue. Charger has since went blind and they have been amazing with him! He goes to daycare and plays as normal with all the other dogs. Charlie was a rescue from an abusive home and could get a little uncomfortable with strangers taking away her food or taking off her harness and they didn't complain and worked with her! For our 2 pups it is $45 a day and we try to take them once a week. They are DEAD when they come home. Perfect solution if you have a date night or event after work one day and can't leave your dogs at home all day. If you live downtown, they also have a drop off service. They also have a bath service for $25-30 which is great. read more

HORRIBLE experience and bad management. My dogs pad paw was cut open and bleeding after what was supposed to just be a simple grooming. I get that things happen sometimes, but if they do, you should try to make them right. They didn't even offer a refund or discount or ANYTHING. I just wanted her tear stains removed and her nails cut. I told this to them over the phone and they said it would be $20-25. Then they have the nerve to give me back my hurt dog and charge me $35. FOR WHAT? My dog to be bleeding and limping for the next few days?? She already needs another bath because there is literally blood all over her paws and also in parts of her fur. The pain on my dogs face made me cry in the parking lot after picking her up. I will absolutely never make her go back here. read more

Under no circumstance bring your dog here. They will groom them however they please even when you make requests. Your dog will come back with cuts and more mats than they came in with. When we called to ask what even happened they said if you don't like it get a new groomer. Truly sad that this business makes any sort of profit and that people bring their pets here. read more

Our dog LOVES Jodi and the crew at Downtown Doggie. You can tell they look after everyone's furry children well. Every dog that bursts out of the hallway to get picked up at the end of the day has an ear-to-ear grin and a tail wag that could bend a dog in half. The indoor and and outdoor spaces are bigger than many dog parks I've seen, with separate pens for dogs of different needs. The drop off and pickup is hassle free and quick for people on the go. My dog came back a couple times smelling like she rolled in a pee puddle, but this happened on rainy/freezing days. There are some messes you can't avoid with a pack of dogs who don't want to go outside to pee. The staff made a great gesture and gave my pup a bath the next time I picked her up. read more

It's a convenient location if you live downtown, so I was trying not to focus on the fact that besides having the highest prices, they offer no half-day fees OR pick-ups on Sundays (basically forcing you to pay for Sundays, even if you don't need it) Both of the options are offered in every other daycare I used, so to me this indicated that the owners were all about getting as much money out of their customers as possible without much consideration for their convenience. This was unfortunately confirmed, when I was charged $70 for what amounted to 24 hours of boarding. I dropped of my dog at 4pm and picked him up at the end of the trip at 4 pm but was charged both an overnight ($40) and a day ($30) fee. When I brought this up with one of the owners, she didn't see any issue with the fact. End result? I cancelled my Christmas break reservation (they might have gained $30 but lost $400+ and much more, I travel a lot) and switched to another place that is on the way to the airport, cheaper, offers half-day prices AND two pick-up times on Sundays. read more

Our dogs love downtown doggie and we like the all day play concept when boarding because other boarding locations you have to pay so much extra for your dogs to play each day. BUT... the no pick up on Sunday essentially forces you to pay an extra day or two depending on when your work starts on Monday. This is almost not worth the extra cost. Also, our dogs come home sick every single time we board them here. They have had several stomach bugs and Impetigo after staying so the vet bills on top of boarding makes it a difficult decision every time we decide to travel. read more

We drop our dog at daycare here once or twice per week and it is a lifesaver! Downtown Doggie makes the drop-off and pick-up process a breeze. The employees are always friendly and I also hear them greeting most dogs by name in the front lobby. When we first rescued our dog, we weren't confident in his behavior around other dogs. Downtown Doggie was extremely understanding and started our dog in smaller gated sections at daycare until he became more comfortable and confident. Now, our dog is much more social and even uses the dog park at Downtown Doggie where he enjoys running freely with other dogs. I'm so thankful they were accommodating to our new pup in the beginning. We are so lucky we live in the same neighborhood as DTD! We have three dogs that consume our lives, so the utmost care is our main concern when we travel (which we do often!) for only $10 extra per dog (in addition to the $40), they can share a kennel and receive all day daycare. I am so glad I found Downtown Doggie and so is my pup! As soon as I pull into the parking lot Wrigley is jumping in the back seat and whining to get out and play. We first found this place when looking to board the dog for a weekend and now use the daycare a couple times a week. If you have an active or high energy dog this place will be a life savor! I left my labradoodle with them and they didn't listen to what I wanted, and cut her super close in three obvious spots. These hurt my dog and she licked at them constantly which changed the color of her hair. When I picked her up they rushed me out the door so I wouldn't notice their mistakes. There are a lot of good things about this business that I enjoyed; The dog park, the facility was decent and the area is ideal for clientele. But being a former employee I would say there are many things wrong with this company. For starters I was made to lie to some clients about their dogs. If they were not a great fit for daycare they would get sent to the kennels in the back where boarders would sleep, which is not a bad solution but most of the clients were not told this was happening and most dogs were there all day until recently a rule was put into place that they get special play time called 1 on 1 (about 10-20 mins probably) just the dog and a co-worker. This not only upset me because the owners were not aware but because most of the dogs being pit bulls were placed here. Even if you are a regular accruing customer I would check to make sure. They have and will lie to their clients to benefit theirselves. another thing I would like to point out is the way they were trained to train others. A lot of people (including myself at one point) are not aware that shock collars,prong collars, choke collars, and other negative reinforcements are not always the best solutions especially if your dog is more fearful and has a bad history. This is more of a personal comment but don't feel like this is the only type of training possible for your dogs. I loved and cared for all of the dogs there and it hurts me to know some of them appear to be getting attention they are not actually receiving. Another thing I had trouble getting over was the new rocks they recently put in place for the outside yards in daycare .. they seem to be a real sore on most of the dogs feet. Anywho this review is mostly to worn people that if your dog doesn't seem to act the same or you notice they don't seem to like it there .. pay attention because they can only use physical communication to display their emotions. After being fired from the facility I would like to add, this is not to bash anyone but to make you aware of the things I felt like I couldn't share before or have just come to realization with. All daycares have their pros and cons but your dog should feel at home when they arrive at theirs. read more
