We visited National Tiger Sanctuary a few years back after going down the whole Tiger King rabbit…read morehole, and honestly--it couldn't have been more different in the best way possible. This place is the real deal. You can tell right away the focus is on the animals' wellbeing, not entertainment. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate, and they take the time to educate you on each animal's story--how they got there, what they've been through, and how they're being cared for now. It sticks with you. We went with the kids and cousins, and they were completely locked in the whole time (which, as a parent, you know is no small feat). It's engaging without feeling like a zoo--more like a respectful, up-close learning experience. The living environments are thoughtfully done and clearly designed with care, given the nature of rescue work. Nothing felt exploitative--just people doing good work for animals that deserve it. If Tiger King left you feeling a little uneasy about how these animals are treated, this place restores some faith. Easy 5 stars. Would go back in a heartbeat.

Stopped by tonight a half hour before they were supposed to close, and they're closed again. I'd rather drive to Springfield and get someone who is open when they are supposed to be.
