We visited National Tiger Sanctuary a few years back after going down the whole Tiger King rabbit hole, and honestly--it couldn't have been more different in the best way possible. This place is the real deal. You can tell right away the focus is on the animals' wellbeing, not entertainment. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate, and they take the time to educate you on each animal's story--how they got there, what they've been through, and how they're being cared for now. It sticks with you. We went with the kids and cousins, and they were completely locked in the whole time (which, as a parent, you know is no small feat). It's engaging without feeling like a zoo--more like a respectful, up-close learning experience. The living environments are thoughtfully done and clearly designed with care, given the nature of rescue work. Nothing felt exploitative--just people doing good work for animals that deserve it. If Tiger King left you feeling a little uneasy about how these animals are treated, this place restores some faith. Easy 5 stars. Would go back in a heartbeat. read more

I genuinely never expected to say this in my lifetime but... I fed a tiger! National Tiger Sanctuary was such an incredible experience from start to finish. The moment we arrived, the staff made it clear that safety and animal care come first. This is not just walking around staring at animals behind fences. You learn their stories, why they are there, and how much work goes into giving them a good life. Seeing the white tigers up close during the feeding tour was unreal. Getting the chance to safely give chicken treats using assisted feeding tubes with guidance from staff was something I never expected when we decided to stop here. The setup felt safe on both sides of the enclosure and respectful to the animals, which I really appreciated. What really stood out to me was how much enrichment the animals have. You can tell they are stimulated and thoughtfully cared for. The staff shared details about their routines, personalities, and special needs, which made everything feel meaningful instead of just a photo opportunity. It is fully outdoors, so wear comfortable shoes and be prepared for natural terrain. I went when the heat was intense and brought a UV blocking umbrella, which I highly recommend if you are sensitive to sun or heat. It is absolutely worth the walk and a little shade hunting to meet and support these beautiful animals. The team is incredibly knowledgeable and genuinely passionate, and you can feel that in every interaction. We saw a billboard for this a few months back while driving back from Silver Dollar City. We knew we were in Springfield at the end of July so decided to book a tour. Very happy we did. The weather cooperated and was perfect - low 80s, low humidity, and a bit cloudy so wasn't too hot. We arrived a little early and were able to walk around out back. They have a beautiful Ligar (one of the photos is of him). Austin was our tour guide and he was fun. We sat up front (recommend sitting towards the front). The tour takes about an hour and we made multiple stops. Probably saw about a dozen big cats and two of the timber wolves. Be prepared - you might not see a lot as it is summer and many of the animals are not very active. Saw a beautiful white bengal tiger. She was sitting in her den chillaxing and could see her but iPhones don't like the focus so no photo. If I am back in the area we might try the feeding tour. There might be more that can be seen. All in all though we loved it and was a great way to spend the morning. read more

Visiting the area during Spring Break 2026, we always try to find different activities to participate in, thus we found the Tiger Sanctuary. It's hard to find one word to truly represent our experience but let's start with phenomenal, fantastic, heartwarming, nature connecting, gracious and unique experience. We LOVED this experience and will never forget it. Bryan, our guide, was so informative, inviting, compassionate, you can just feel the excitement and love he has for the majestic animals under his care. This feeling was also emitting from the other individuals in the crew. Now for service... TOP NOTCH. It was unexpectedly super-duper cold out (i.e. about 7 degrees with windchill) and rather than completing our ride in a side-by-side Bryan graciously took us in is HEATED personal vehicle... Whew and Thank You! Knowing all the funds for our event and purchases in the gift shop go toward supporting the animals and the staff, we were just fine with it. It is a great value! Now the question is, would we return? HECK YES! We will be back next time we are in the Branson area. They are continually improving the facility and animal enclosures, cannot wait to see what is next. I know when we travel we get "caught-up" in the touristy stuff but do something different. Go see the beautiful creatures God created, have a unique experience people of all ages can and will appreciate. We must look beyond ourselves and look to other areas greater than ourselves. We did a private tour, the top tier tour, at this sanctuary. First off, they only do a few of these a day. You get to see everything in the operation including all of the retired animals that aren't shown on the main tours. The staff were extremely knowledgeable and you could tell they had a passion for what they were doing. They literally love these big cats like their own. For nature lovers and animal lovers this is a really great experience. It is pricey, but it's hours long and worth the time and expense. You can tell these cats are taken care of and loved, even if just through the fences. Absolute must! read more

I love animals, especially lions and tigers and this was my favorite place I went to on my vacation. I did the feeding tour which was informative and fun. I wish it was longer though... I honestly could have spent all day there! All the stories were interesting and the animals look in great condition and seem to have a real relationship with these people. They have a nice gift shop which I bought a shirt from, but a lot of selection. I would HIGHLY recommend to visit and would definitely check this place out again if I was in the area. read more

This was a great stop. This is NOT a tiger king type place. We learned a ton of information about the place and the tigers and how they are cared for. They all were just soaking up the sun and getting fed. The guide did a great job explaining all the big cats and answered any questions we had. We will definitely be back to take the golf cart tour. This was our first time at the Tiger Sanctuary. It was very easy to get to in a great stop before we headed into Branson. The staff were very friendly and very knowledgeable. They made sure that we were very safe at all times. All of the animals looked well nourished, and in happy moods whenever we walked by. There are a lot of different tours that you can go on, but we went on a feeding tour. My daughter got to feed tigers and our guide would feed the other ones that we saw. It was so cool to learn about these magnificent creatures and how they ended up at the sanctuary. We went in the afternoon at the end of July, very hot, not a good time because most of the cats were hunkered down in the shade. If you're heathy do the walking tour, it will give you a better view of the cats. Our tour guide said the optimal times are 9AM when it's cooler or at 4PM when it's feeding time. As we have limited mobility we opted for the shuttle tour, guide was super informed and personable. We only saw a few of the cats, they were impressive and we enjoyed ourselves. read more

Everyone we had as a tour guide was friendly, patient, knowledgeable about every animal and so caring! They know the story about every animal, every medication they are on, and most importantly their personalities. Our tour was suppose to be 3-1/2 hrs and we were there at least 4. I'm amazed at the people that post a one star review for this place. It's a nonprofit sanctuary not your personal petting zoo. That being said we loved the place. The guides, we had two, were very knowledgeable and filled with interesting stories and anecdotes about the different animals we saw. The tour went quickly but didn't feel like we were being rushed. What a day!! Roar!! The National Tiger Sanctuary was the place to be.....we not only got up close and personal with many big cats, we were able to feed them snacks!! Our 3 1/2 hour behind the scenes guided tour with the Head Animal Keeeper was everything you imagine it would be, wow! We learned about each animal we met, their quirks and dietary needs, what brought them to the Sanctuary, special accommodations and their health needs/deficits. The Head Keeper was entertaining, informative and passionate about those in her care. The animals were all in great condition and an emphasis on the animal's enclosure enrichment was a definite priority here. read more

I've been to a few Tiger Sanctuaries and this is the best one. The cats seem very cared for and happy. We did a tour and our tour guide was extremely informative and knowledgeable. There wasn't a question unanswered. It's a great cause, too. So many of these cats of horrible backgrounds they were rescued from, thank goodness. While we were there, the cats were interactive and very awake. We were there in November on a day that was a little chilly but not too crazy. The "chuffing" that the tigers and staff communicated with melted my heart. I learned so much during the visit. Highly recommended. read more

I took the "behind the scenes" tour today which was 3 1/2 hours long. It was fascinating and worth every penny. I could not recommend it more highly. As a person who is involved in animal rescue myself, I would say to those who have written negative reviews of this place ... you don't understand rescue. These animals were messed up by stupid humans in the first place, many of them started out as "pets" or as part of the entertainment industry. They have zero chance to live life as they were intended. Of course these sanctuaries cannot replicate the natural surroundings the big cats would have had born in the wild, that would cost a fortune on top of the fortune it already costs to feed them, provide veterinary care and maintain their habitats. The "behind the scenes " tour starts out as a walk through viewing some of the big cats closest to the entrance. Harry is a memorable guy (a huge Siberian Tiger) as he loves to spray groups of people. We were forewarned and managed to dodge the spray. Midnight is a beautiful black leopard, a former house pet who was relinquished when her "human" married and had a baby. She has a wonderful "playpen" with scaffolding and catwalks up high. "Bambi" a spotted leopard, is THE most beautiful animal I have ever seen. The keepers here say she is super sweet. She lay by the front of her enclosure with her front paws politely crossed gazing at us while our guide told us her story. All of us had the chance to feed some of these cats a snack of a raw chicken leg on this portion of the tour. This was safely accomplished through two layers of fencing with a PVC pipe/plunger apparatus. The second part of the behind-the-scenes tour involved riding in a tram and visiting with many more big cats who aren't able to be on display on the walking tour for various reasons. We also went to the big cat seniors area, and viewed the hybrid wolves which were separated into two packs. To finish the tour we observed an intern full feed 3 big cats, this time a full meal of up to 12 pounds of raw meat, not just a chicken leg snack. This procedure is a sight to behold. If you deeply love animals, you will love this place and the wonderful people who work there. Go support this place. read more

I love the Sanctuary becuse they were there for me in a grave time of need. My fiancé had exotic animals and when he passed I didn't know what to do , can't call a shelter. I would highly recommend this to anyone in the Branson area young or old! It was so interesting learning about the animals and watch them interact with the guides. These are all rescue cats, mainly from circuses and shows that no longer use the animals or have shut down. Learning about the history of these animals is both eye opening and saddening, but knowing they are in a better place now is heartwarming. The National Tiger Sanctuary is a wonderful place ran by caring staff and volunteers that are passionate about helping these big cats. I have fostered both dogs and cats and realize the amount of time and effort it takes. These animals are not able to live in the wild and need a place to go to be cared for. They all were born in captivity. The ideal situation would be to allow a wild animal to live in the wild, but under their circumstances it's not possible. These animals are very well cared for and loved by the staff and volunteers. A lot of work, time and sacrifices go into to making a place like National Tiger Sanctuary run. If I lived closer, I would definitely want to be a part of this organization and volunteer. My son and I really enjoyed our time there and fell in love with these cats in the small amount of time we were there! Definitely take the time to visit if you are in the area! read more

The sanctuary was sooo cool! We did the Behind the Scenes tour. So we started with a general group where we were able to feed the tigers twice. The staff know a lot about the tigers and lions. It was awesome, funny, and super informative. We did an extra 2hrs or so with Sam for the behind the scenes part. He knew so much and took us to even more animals. It was hot and the others (staff and visitors) said that the cats are more active when it's cooler out. So we are planning to come back in about 6 mos. read more
