Bullet Stop is your mom and pop style of gun shop. You walk in and it's nothing fancy. In fact it…read morelooks like a house that someone converted to a gun shop, which is what I think it is. They have a large selection of fire arms from modern to WW2. Many times they run specials for their firearms and ammo. I've bought a couple of firearms from them, I've been completely satisfied with what I bought. Nice folks, very friendly staff. They also have an indoor shooting range. You need to call ahead and make a reservation. As you get the entire range of 4 shooting stations to yourself. If you don't make a reservation you run the risk of walking in and them not having an opening at the time you get there. Do yourself a favor and call ahead. The only part of their range that bothers me is that you have to buy your ammo from them. You don't have the option of bringing your own. Their ammo is more expensive than if you order bulk online. The last time I went shooting, my wife and I both shot, 50 rounds, plus the range fee and tax, it came to $67.00. I believe if I read correctly that if you buy your sidearm from them, that you get to use the range for free. So keep that in mind if you are in the market. I will warn you that the parking is a little confusing. You actually park in what appears to be the lot of the business next to them and then pass through a gate in the fence to get to the shop.

This weekend I took the CCL class with Joe and Terry, and I honestly can't recommend them enough…read more I've been shooting for a few years now, but I walked away from the class feeling much more confident in my knowledge and aware of how much more there is to learn and stay sharp on. My parents took this class last year and had been nudging me to sign up. I kept putting it off because sitting in a classroom for 8 hours over a weekend sounded like a nightmare. But wow, was I wrong. Joe and Terry made the time fly. The class was engaging, informative, filled with real-life examples that tied directly into their experience, all while tying in their great senses of humor. It was clear this wasn't just a dull PowerPoint read-along like I feared I'd get elsewhere. Their team is equally amazing: super personable and helpful, both in the classroom and out on the range. I didn't catch everyone's names, but every single staff member made the environment feel comfortable and judgment-free, which I really appreciated. I can only imagine how much that meant to the people shooting for the first time. If you're on the fence about taking this class don't be. It was an insightful, empowering weekend and I'm so glad I finally did it. Thank you again, Joe and Terry!

A brief explanation on how I came to Top Shot Academy when I decided to take the CCL class…read more I began this journey by looking in Google maps for a CCL instructor/class that was near where I lived. I found one eight blocks from me. Problem: they closed their business and told no one. Next, I looked again for a close proximity instructor/class. Found one who was an "attorney" (that's what I was told). Made the date for the class, we agreed that I would take the Metra out to his location and he would pick me. Got on the train in the city and went out to his Metra stop. He was a no-show - got stood up. SOOOO, having finally learning my lesson, I looked on Yelp for a reputable 5-star rating CCL instructor. Top Shot Academy and instructor Chip Eberhart. Taking Chip's class was unbelievably thorough and so complete with regard to every detail, well, I'll say I plan to never loose touch with this remarkable guy and Top Shot Academy ! His experience and continuing ongoing firearm education (including and great wit and sense of humor - can I say that ?) makes him a paragon of his profession ! Alan
