All of the meat was full of flavor and the sauce was thick and flavorful. Potato salad was a nice surprise. It was a mayo base, and that made my tastebuds super happy. Calling to place the order was easy, they had my order hot and ready as I walked in. Location was easy to find. My only negative was that our corn bread was so dried out that had to crunch a butter knife through it to break it in half. Even then, with the real butter they had, it was tasty. Look at the recent reviews before you go to this restaurant. It seems like this restaurant may have been good at one point, but it's pretty awful now. We made the mistake of trying this restaurant just based on the overall 4 star average. However, I truly believe this place needs to be shut down. The whole group I ate with got sick from the food. Pros: fried okra was pretty good, sweet tea is good, waffle was fine, restaurant atmosphere was nice. This used to be a great BBQ place. I went in and stood there at the counter looking at the side of the woman's face - who supposedly "worked there" while she pretended not to see me as I continued to watch her enjoying her time on the computer. The smell of old grease and rancid animal fat and looking at the side of her face as she ignored me made me change my mind about wanting to eat anything from this place. She let me stand there looking at her over the counter for a good 10 minutes - finally I'd had enough of her and this hole in the wall (it used to be a good place) what a shame. As I walked out I yelled pretty loudly "thanks a lot! Bye bye!" She actually yelled back "bye!" Whoever owns this place must not want to be in business anymore - this was the second time I left because of this woman's behavior and horrible attitude. I was hoping for some great BBQ on our drive to Bisbee, so we stopped at this place along the way. Reasonable menu and small establishment, but we were happy to try a new place. The chicken and waffles didn't allow white meat, so we had to get pulled chicken. We also ordered a 2 meat plate (brisket & pulled pork) with jalapeno cornbread. The sauce from the chicken tasted like Lousiana Hot Sauce, pulled pork was ok but the brisket....not so much. Sorry guys, but the cornbread tasted 'out of the box'. read more

First off, let me say the hush puppies are pretty good! The pulled pork is ok, but a little tough and needs more seasoning. The corn bread is terrible, tastes stale and has no flavor. Forget it. We went there for the first time today. Liked the extensive menu - but when we went to order (and already had our taste buds set for a particular meal) they didn't have it. Would have been easy for them to mark the big menu board with some sort of indicator that it wasn't available... And, the lady who was taking the order didn't apologize or even seem like she cared when we said we'd be leaving because we were hoping to get that particular item. Also, my wife went to use the rest room and the hallway was dark - almost creepy dark. And the lighting in the bathroom was poor also - once my wife figured out which room was the ladies rest room. So to concur with several previous reviews you definitely need a sweet tooth or better yet sweet teeth. To start, I was drawn in to this place on the way to a different lunch location by the sight of the smokers fired up outside of the establishment. I was so interested that before I went inside for linch I decided I would return before my drive home to Tucson and pick up a lb of brisket and ribs for the family for dinner. What a great plan. There's a saying about all great plans. .. Yes. Sweet. I ordered the brisket which was absolutely swimming in sauce. I prefer to dress my BBQ with sauce myself and see the meat. It was way too sweet and thick. There was a very nice subtle hit of spice, mild but tasty if you can get past the sugar content. The serving was quite fatty but despite this, the meat itself was not that tender. I picked out the fat that I could see beyond the sauce. The sides are $2.50 which I thought was pricey for a side of cornbread. However, the serving was three muffins. Who eats three muffins with their sandwich? The jalapeño muffins didn't have much flavor at all. No taste of jalapeños but again was too sweet. Sense of cleanliness was fair. Not impressed at all. This food was mediocre at best. I had the 2 meat combo (ribs and pulled pork) with Mac and cheese and house beans. The ribs were near bland but at lest they were tender. The pork was sloppy and severely overpowered by some over sweet semi spicy sauce. The pork flavor could not be pronounced through all of that if it was good to start with. The Mac and cheese was straight out out of a box with a little pepper. The house beans were made with some scrap pork and were not to bad other than once again to sweet. My suggestion to this place would be to spice it up but stop drowning the food in sauce and sugar unless the sauce could hold its own. read more

The other reviews I have seen with a negative slant are in two categories: 1.) Cheapskate Sierra Vista/Fort Huachuca types (look, if you want homecooked food that isn't from a chain, you'll have to spend more than $3.99 a meal, dude). 2.) People judging the interior for what the place isn't (It isn't a sit down place. It is a take out/lunch counter BBQ place). So, if you aren't choosing your food based on whether or not it is dirt cheap, and you don't expect a BBQ place to seat you like Tavern on the Green, and what you expect is a great BBQ meal at lunch or to take home, you'll really like this place. read more

St Louis Ribs were super yummy. I ordered a half rack and they were HUGE. I had a side of mac and cheese and ordered some jalepneo corn bread. The amount of food I was served was enough for me to have lunch the next day . So definitely great portion sizes. I was a little skeptical about barbeque in Sierra Vista, but I was pleasantly surprised. I left with a full and happy belly. The owner was really nice to me and thanked me for trying it out for the first time. I'm not a local in this area, but if I was , I would definitely come back. IN SHORT: Skip this place. I'm giving this place a 2. I drove by on Saturday and was attracted towards the smoker fired up letting off a nice mesquite smell. I went for dinner on Sunday, the smoker was not running. Service was slow. The pictures of the food on the wall were not very flattering. I thought the prices were high but decided to wait and give it a try. I ordered a two meat combo and was overcharged $2. I didn't say anything. The counter is blocked off so you can't really see them preparing your food. The woman on the register was nice, likely the owner. The one preparing the food was new. I waited 15 minutes and my food was ready. Over-sauced and microwaved. How could I tell, you might be wondering? It had hot spots and cool spots and with no grill fired up...how else is it going to be reheated. It even had a little microwave flavor, like when it's over cooked. The cole slaw was not fresh. Likely made the Friday before. Overall, just not good. It could be a whole lot better. I would never go back. This is coming from someone who has lived in and experienced real BBQ of North Carolina, Kansas City, and Texas. If you're left wondering where to go in Sierra Vista, I'd suggest Texas Roadhouse. read more

I do not know what kind of food this is, but it's not BBQ. I ordered the 3 meat platter with brisket, pulled pork and pork ribs. Everything was cooked on a flat top grill and slathered in BBQ sauce. Nothing was cooked fresh on a BBQ grill. I wouldn't even say it was cooked on the grill, it was more so warmed up on the flat top grill. The corn bread was under cooked and was very hard. I also ordered the chicken and waffles hoping that would be good, but it was a big let down as well. The chicken was blackened. My wife said that her fish was very salty. The only reason I am giving it two stars is because my sides were pretty good and my kids burgers were decent and their fries were hot. I was really needing a meat fix so decided to give Down Home a try. Really disappointed. I love bbq...all styles, but have a hard time with bbq joints that douse their meats in sauce. And not even really good sauce. The beans tasted like they came right out of the can (with some meat scraps thrown in to make it look homemade) and the cole slaw was watery and tastless.
