I had the best steak and kidney pudding and all the trimmings while my daughter enjoyed the vegetarian menu, vegan options are also available. The Royal Oak is the essence of what a rural pub needs to be to survive these days. Only a mile or so off the A36 but in a beautiful old village. There is a front room with a small bar and another room in the rear. There is also seating outside for nice days. We sat in the room in the back. Service was excellent here and so was the food. We let our waitress know that we were catching a flight in Stansted and she helped us avoid the traffic around Stonehenge. She was so helpful she actually wrote out turn by turn directions for us. We walked out there with the dogs (which are welcome and the pub even provide treats and water) and had a lovely Sunday lunch on their terrace followed by a game of table tennis in the garden. It's not just the garden and the settings that make this place so wonderful, it's the service, the food, the home made honey and everything that goes with it. They drive about 70 miles one way and their friends drive about 70 miles from the other direction, and they meet in the middle at the Bell Inn. With all the pubs they could choose from that would fit the bill, you can imagine it must be pretty good to choose that one.
