Not only do they serve Vienna Beef dogs (best in the industry) but they also offer the Vienna Beef dogs w/natural casing (my favorite), the red hots that snap when you bite into them! Nicky V's (formerly Doug's Dogs) in Oak Forest is a sad excuse for a Chicago Hot Dog Joint. The food is absolutely disgusting and unedible. I have put off by this place before and stopped going but eventually go back because my wife likes them, but I will never go there again. They keep raising their prices but the food never improves and actually shrinks and stinks.The food smelled so bad in the car driving home I nearly gagged and had to open the window even though I had the AC on. I had two chili dogs and they were the smallest hot dogs I had ever seen. Every time I order I request they cook the fries well done and crispy and they are incapable of doing that. You get wet limp soggy fries that are disgusting; and I believe the restaurant and the food smells so bad because they never change the cooking oil. First time coming here. Wanted to support a local establishment. The first thing I didn't like was that hill I had to go up to turn especially it dips too a bit. It kind of scraped the bottom of my car but you can't hold the building accountable for that. I checked in on Yelp to place my order. My Yelp check in was acknowledged! So I was excited about that. The food here is at a great price. It's got a good menu. The hot dogs, fries, Italian beef were all made to perfection. It's got a great amount of parking. Not really much of a look inside. Since Don's hot dogs on 151st & Harlem was ruined in a fire a while back, we've been looking for another good hot dog place. I think we found it at Doug's. We've been by Doug's Dogs many, many times driving east on 159th Street and just never stopped. We heard that ownership had changed a number of times and we were skeptical. Well we finally did stop and are glad ... the latest owners are tip-top. Nice dogs here (4 star stuff), all beef and a bit of snap in the casing and overall a very nice taste. We had six dogs - 2 with just mustard, 2 with everything but peppers, and 2 with chili cheese - so we tried a lot of dogs. The fries (3 stars) - which come with every order, so you don't have to order more - were very good ... fresh, hot, and crisp. That was it for this visit - but we will be back to try some other items. read more

Foods always good but today's order was not. On my burger and my sandwich I ordered today they both had hair on both sandwiches. Not even through the second bite and that when we saw it that turned my stomach and had to throw out the whole order. As I feel that the South suburbs lack any good hot dog stands, this place sets the gold standard. I consider myself a hot dog snob and will travel to get a good hot dog meal. Doug's hot dogs have all the basic toppings and not those bare bone depression style hot dogs. And making it even better, they serve up fresh cut fries. The place is small with limited room to at inside, but there a couple of benches out front for some nice summer outdoor eating. Service is fast and prices and not that bad for what you get. Tip of the day. Watch out for that driveway when you exit off of 159th Street, it is very steep and your front bumper will let you know. read more

My previous review was uncalled for. I was having a bad day and took out my frustration on a small business that didn't deserve it. I used one bad experience for a review without thinking of all the great experiences I've had. That being said, Doug's offers great food. Their fries are hand cut and fresh, not frozen. The place has great hot dogs, tamales in a bun, beefs, fries, you name it! He goes out of his way to make sure your order is exactly what you want. He even delivers during Covid and supports the local community. We love his car shows and we hope they can continue in the future. I live close by and love Doug's Dog's in Oak Forest. read more

Just had our first take-out experience with the new and improved Doug's Dogs.... the food was delicious. The Gyro Cheeseburger was perfectly cooked, very tasty and just enough food. The Vienna Beef hotdogs never disappoint and we're complimented nicely by the fresh cut fries.... literally cut to order and fried fresh every time. Lastly, the value offered at the new Doug's Dogs was the real story here.. (2) Gyro Cheeseburgers with fries, (2) Hot Dogs with fries, (1) cup of homemade chicken noodle soup and (2) cheese cups for $24!!!! You can't beat that Oak Forest! read more

Pretty solid little place, no tables or chairs (except outside), easy menu items and super friendly folks working there. I'd definitely choose the dogs over the burger(though it is pretty good), the dogs are loaded up and the Spicy Joe Dog is om nom nom good. The thing I wasn't too happy about is that 1- it was not very filling even with all the extras... probably better off getting 2 of them. I had the Angus Bacon Cheeseburger there too it was good, but not great. The patty was a little overcooked and so was the bacon. Now I don't mind a burger that's well done, but when it's too well and starts to dry out... no megusta mi amigo. I'll try it again some time, maybe it was just an "oops, there's a burger cookin' there,m better get it" Alls in Alls: yep, it's a hotdog place and it's tiny... good for a snatch and grab food run and probably a cool little chill place in summer with the 5-6 tables out front. read more

Ordered 2 cheese dogs and 2 chili dogs. I got them and they had ONLY cheese and ONLY chili on them. I have never seen that before. Absolutely no veggies. Is that normal? I wish I had known, but unfortunately it was a grub hub order so I had to take the loss. Fries were soggy and gross. I've eaten there before and it was mediocre, so they get 2 stars. Skin on, same as portillos and other great dog spots... 2. Maryanne poppy seeded bun, steamed 3. Fresh cut fries are temperamental and not necessary but if your gonna have them.. fry twice. Stopped here for the first time since the owner change. Big disappointment. The cheese dog tasted just like the ones I put in the microwave for my kids when they were little. The cheese fries had way too much cheese. Not the same. Also, the person packing the food had his mask on below his nose and was breathing on the food. The person who made the drinks had no gloves on and had their hands all over the cup lid. Not too sanitary. read more

The dogs were okay, but nothing like the rave reviews the place has been getting in the media of late. Somebody rated Doug's as among the five best dog places in the Chicago area and another review show gave it similarly high ratings, but the dogs, while okay, weren't that good. What really bothers me about the place, though, is that when you order in the joint, you can't get a hot dog without paying for fries whether you want them or not. At the risk of sounding un-American, I don't like fries in general and I especially, as I found out, don't like these fries. (Since I had to pay for them anyway, I took the fries, hoping that someone else would want them. But they were hyper-greasy and even my fry-loving friends didn't like them.) Yes, I know I could simply decline the fries, but the objective is not to pay for something you don't want, yet Doug's insists that we MUST buy, or at least pay for, fries if we want a hot dog. This is not unheard of among dog places around town, but is not a practice followed by anyplace I will go to twice. And I LOVE Chicago dogs. So the dogs were pretty good and the place is conveniently located close to family, so, normally, I'd go back, but won't because of the "no dogs without paying for fries" policy. There are too many other good dog joints around that don't engage in that potentially backfiring exercise in margin expansion. read more

Local, authentic food. My mom and I tried them out, and we're immediate fans! I'm not typically a burger person, nor am I a huge fan of meat (though in no way am I vegetarian), but I tried their gyro burger and I just have to say--I quite enjoyed it! They make their fries fresh, too; and I see at times the workers bringing in these huge bags of potatoes into the restaurant. Pretty nice! read more

When I moved here, I was given so much grief about how I eat my hot dog. Apparently you do not put ketchup on a hot dog. I think that the south missed that memo. Anyway, It was insisted that I go to Doug's by my Chicago born and raised friend/ "hot dog extraordinaire" (who's body does, ironically, resemble a hot dog...but I don't think that has anything with her credibility). The first time I went, there was a line wrapped around the building. When I got to the back of the line I felt like I was waiting in a line to see Santa, but instead of Santa, it was a glorious hot dog (which is about the same level of excitement for me). The line moved reallly quickly. When I received my hot dog, I did not put any mustard, as I feared that people would start stoning me. THE BEST HOT DOG IN THE WORLD! When Mr. Burrito changed its special from a steak burrito to a cheeseburger and fries, I decided to try out the place next door: Doug's Dogs. The marquee, which used to sport Christian slogans, was offering a special of a Polish, fries and a shake for $4.39. When I went inside, I was told there was no shake in the combo, just a soda, but I could upgrade to a shake for 95 cents. No thanks. Anyway, I noticed immediately that Doug's Dogs likes to make clear it's a Christian hot-doggery, based on the newspaper clippings and signs announcing "GOD IS IN CONTROL." The boy behind the counter was very polite and gave me the option of a fried or steamed Polish. I opted for friedm which actually was quite good. The fries were freshly fried, although not sliced in-house, and the soda was ... well, soda. If you want to sit down and eat on a rainy day, this ain't the place. Seating is outdoor only, and they take down the umbrellas when it's wet outside. Also, the kid put each item of my meal in a seperate, very tiny, bag - which made carrying it all (plus my umbrella and keys) a bit tough. Overall, these guys are nothing special, and Portillo's (oh, the horror of a chain!) makes a better weiner. read more

I've been working in Tinley Park the past few months, and on my drive home this little hot dog stand with a giant replica Statue of Liberty on the roof always catches my eye. I resolved to visit this place, which is how I came to visit Doug's Dogs. Doug, as far as I can tell, is the former owner of the stand. A lady named Karen, I believe, is the current owner. She was there during my visit, and was very helpful and friendly, and would constantly ask if I needed anything. They have two types of hot dogs, an all-beef and an all-pork. Sorry, I don't think there's a blend for those who can't decide. I, however, opted for a yummy chicken pita which came with fries and a drink for the recession-busting price of $6. Hot dog combos are even cheaper, as are the copious daily specials. They also offer milkshakes, which are one of my favorite things in the whole wide world. I resisted the temptation... This time. On my visit, I got the feeling this was sort of a community hang-out, and why not? The food is cheap and tasty, and the management is friendly. Incidentally, the Statue of Liberty on the roof is actually the second statue, as the first was stolen by hoodlums and became too damaged to use. As a side note, there's no indoor seating, only an outdoor patio. read more

Was sorely disappointed! First off(through no fault of Doug's Dogs), my doordash driver spilled the chili tamale boats all over all the food, had bag sideways. As far as the food, very disappointed. Hot dog tasted like it had been sitting on a roller for awhile, bun was close to being stale. Fries were okay. Ranch dressing was so watered down, weird flavor. Tamale boats were a mess, but edible according to my guests. Pizza puff was pretty much inedible. Had a couple bites, but was just too undercooked. Order well done or crispy. As for the dogs. They were ok. Kind of scrimped on relish onions and mustard. Vienna beef yes, natural casing no. A major disappointment. Made a special stop at this place as it was recommended in Dennis Foley's book "No Ketchup" which lists the best 50 dog places in Chicago and a few suburbs. I'm not the author nor do I have anything to do with this place whatsoever other than being a chicago dog superfan. I got the hot dog and fry deal for $3.15 with a coke. I spent about 6 bucks including the $1 tip. I like to swap out the pickle with cukes because often on Chicago Style Dogs places with use dill relish so why double up? Also, the cukes brink old Bozo Hot Dog taste back from my youth. Anyway this dog was perfect at 3:30 pm. Every taste was noticeable independently at times and definitely came together for the one of a kind Chicago Style Dog experience. Excellent steamed bun, the sandwich stayed together as much as expected. All ingredients excellent. Hot Dog A+++. This would usually be enough for a great hot dog experience but the Fries at this place are out of this world!! I'm a huge burger, dog and fry guy. These fresh cut fries are the BEST I'VE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE, so far. I watched how the chef took out some fries and dumped them in the frier and i thought oh boy this is going to take a while. It didn't and so I assumed that they must have been previously cooked and then they flash fry them ala Five Guys. But, don't put Five Guys in the same universe as these fries.
