All the bad reviews are totally accurate. The first time my Amica towing called these people, they claimed that I cancelled the call. I never did. So I had to wait another 90 minutes for another company to get to me. Last night, my transmission went and I was trying to get to a safe place to pull over. When I saw it was the same company coming out, I knew it would be bad. I ended up getting down the street to a parking lot and called them to update my location. They guy on the phone started yelling at me and told me not to move my car at all because if they couldn't find me immediately, they were leaving! And then asked me why I needed a tow if my car was running. I explained my transmission was gone but would occasionally kick in. They yelled at me and my insurance company. You know when someone needs a tow, it's a bad day! What a terrible time to be so mean to people! Don't be in business if you are that rude! read more

This is by far one of the worst customer service reviews that I have ever written. I got a flat tire and through my roadside assistance, I pay monthly, they connected me to Jack Rabbit first. The lug nuts on my tire would not come off, so they connected me to this towing company. The conversation goes like this.... Douglas Tow: "Douglas Towing and trans." Me: "Yes, hi, Im here with Jack Rabbit and they cant get the lug nuts off to change my tire, so can you send a tow, thanks." DT : "Go figure, why cant he get it off? Doesn't he know how to change the tire?" Me: (repeated statement above, apparently dum dum didn't hear me the first time) "they CANT get the lug nuts off to change the tire can you help or not?" DT: "Have him do it! " Me: "Excuse me? Im calling for a tow and just want my tire changed." DT: "Have him do it." Me: "Thats the problem Einstein, he can't!" DT: "Have him try harder, then." Me: "This is the worst customer service." (Hung up) Went with another tow company. I must have been talking to hillbilly Douglas from the back of the Appalachian Mountains Seriously! To start off I just want to say that I am not a friend or family member giving a favorable review to try to boost total ratings. I am in fact a repair shop owner and I deal with a lot of tow drivers. Having a dead vehicle dropped in your lap can make or break your day depending on where and how it is dropped. Especially when you're a smaller shop with limited parking. In the few times I have dealt with Douglas Towing I have been nothing but happy see them coming down the driveway. In fact the last time I saw, who I believe to be Douglas Jr., he was skilled, patient and curious. He manage to load a dead Explorer onto my drive on lift, which mind you on a good day with a fully functioning vehicle, I still need guidance onto due to its off center positioning in the shop. At my shop its pretty standard to offer a modest tip when a driver goes out of their way to make our day easier. But on this day the driver (Doug Jr.?) would not take the tip stating that he was just doing his job. Mind you, bad news (reviews) spread faster and louder than good ones do. read more

I was bringing my car to Pep Boys & the sent this clown. After a 4 hour wait because the driver didn't find the address & left. I was told I would be charged an extra $50 because he had to winch the car an extra 10 feet because he couldn't manuver his inappropriately sized truck for the job into position. The driver was nice enough & since I was over a barrel paid the extra $50 thinking I could reason with the dispatcher the next day. When I called I seem to have reached the now infamous "Doug" He was immediately rude when I explained myself. "LOOK BUDDY blah blah blah. I guess the scam with this loser is find any excuse to up charge the customer & then be rude & hang up on them. Burn your car on the side of the road before calling this loser. read more

There driver just showed up at my house and tried to extort money for a service that was covered by the roadside plan. He was rude also basically told me off in front of my kids. they should be ashamed of there business practices. Douglas, the owner, is extremely rude. I had my car towed by one of his employees, who told me he was "new on the job" and then damaged my vehicle. I filed a complaint and received a call from Douglas himself. He told me nothing I was saying was true, that he fixed cars of better brands than mine and didn't care about my (expletive) car, and "good luck with that." He insulted me repeatedly, wouldn't let me speak, and hung up on me. I called again to try and talk, and the same thing happened. I have never been treated so poorly in my life. If only there were negative stars. This towing company is by far the WORSE towing company I had to deal with. This WANNABE "big shot owner" name Doug has no sense of customer service and will give off an attitude quick. This guy thinks he is the only towing company out there. Please. Ill call another towing company. STAY AWAY FROM THIS GUY and if your insurance request them to tow your car ask for another company. Today was the day from Hell and Douglas Transport was the driver. At around 12pm today I got back to my car after a doctors appointment and my car wouldn't start. We called USAA and they set me up with Douglas Transport I got a text at 12:16 saying that the ETA was 1:44 at 1:55 I called and was given attitude. The guy I spoke with told me that he hadn't even gotten my call till 12:30 (which is clearly false since I have a txt from his company time stamped 12:16) he also schooled me on the definition of ETA and told me that it was going to be another 25min. He stated "traffic" as being the reason for the delay. About 10 minutes later I got another txt from the company that quoted 2:15 as the new ETA. I spoke with USAA about 15 minutes after that and they called the company to find out the status of the tow they were then quoted an additional 20+ minutes. The tow didn't arrive until 3pm. I then was given attitude by the driver when I told him it wasn't the battery. he said "I don't think you know what you are talking about". My husband is a mechanic and when I called him we went over the potential issues that the car was having and he determined that it wasn't the battery. After we got on our way the driver took the worst route possible which ended up in us sitting in bumper to bumper traffic and when I inquired why he would take this route if he was familiar with the area and he said "there's traffic everywhere at this time of day." And that might be true but Lowell street in Salem/Peobody is ALWAYS a nightmare. Where as there tends to be much less traffic on 114 there is also more than one lane. The driver then proceeded to take the most round-about way to get me home when he could have just taken 114 from Salem to 125 as opposed to 128 south to 95 north to 133 west to 97 north to 125 west. I believe that that driver was trying to pad his time by taking routes that are consistently unreliable when it comes to traffic. The entire experience with this company was so horrible and I advise NO ONE to use them when they are stranded. read more

I was hooked up with Douglas Towing thru' Liberty Mutual Roadside Assistance. While waiting their arrival I read their reviews and I then felt rather apprehensive. However, within 30 minutes a friendly, helpful tow truck driver was helping to get my non starting Prius out of my garage and onto his flat bed tow truck. I certainly had no complaints. read more

Young Doug gave me a call yesterday and asked me to remove my bad review. I told him I would update it after Hyundai checked out my car to make sure it was fixed properly. I'm a woman of my word, so here goes my new review... a few lessons learned here.... 1st.... always photograph before and after. The first words out of Young Dougs mouth were, "we can't help you, you should have stayed with your vehicle." After I explained to Young Doug that I have photos and I would be filing a claim, he called me back and accepted full responsibility. Young Doug was very helpful the next few days. Everything ran smoothly and he even offered me a rental when my car took longer than expected. I declined because we do have a second vehicle we could use. When my car was returned to me, Young Doug wanted me to sign off on it. I explained that I needed Hyundai to check the car out first and Young Doug seemed a little upset. "Had I known, I would have driven it to Hyundai." I told Young Doug if he was more comfortable doing so, he could. He took video of his work instead. I'm sure though, as a business man, he understood where I was coming from. When I return the leased vehicle in July, I certainly don't want a bill for all the damage to the back end because it was towed with the flat. Young Doug claims his driver didn't know it had a flat and he also told me the driver was fired. Good judgement on Young Dougs part if he has a tow truck driver who tows cars with flat tires and claims they didn't see it. YIKES! We did pay Young Doug for the tire, after of which Mike at Hyundai said I should not have done. How was I to know if the tire could have been repaired was Mikes point. I guess Mike was right. You'd also think that seeing I didn't cost him hundreds, maybe thousands of dollars on insurance, and I didn't make him pay for a rental, that giving me a break on the tire would have been the right thing to do. Nope. Second lesson here: Always go through insurance!! I was a bit uncomfortable standing with Young Doug and my boyfriend Brian when Brian was trying to explain to Doug that we were only trying to right a wrong. This wasn't our fault and our initial response from Doug or Dougs old man was for us to 'go fuck ourselves.' Of course we are being cautious. Brian said this morning that perhaps young Doug is trying to do things the right way and he works for this father, who is a complete ass, and it isn't easy trying to take a business with so much negativity.... ( I mean look at the other reviews ) and turn it around. I felt Young Doug did turn it around a bit... he taught me some very valuable lessons. He was always kind to me on the phone after he saw that I wouldn't be going through the insurance company and that I had photos. The car is fixed, it looks great, Hyundai said all the work looks fine and all is well that ends well. The only thing that could fix this mess is if Doug mailed me back the money I spent on the tire. Only then would I say, although this all was a little bumpy.... young Doug was great. But for now.... it is what it is. Don't you all think he should mail me back the money I spent on the tire? read more
