I never really write reviews, but after i went to douglas optical i felt i have to leave them 5 stars. after breaking my old glasses, i needed a new pair same day for work and i found this place on yelp. I was skeptical at first so i called ahead of time to see if there was some gimmick..to my surprise this place was legit! The staff were very nice and accommodating, the best price for glasses anywhere i felt i was getting a bargain and would highly recommend them to anyone! I was so pleased with the service that we received here this afternoon!!! My young grandson had broken his eyeglasses frames; they were his only pair, and he needs them for reading. I had been told by an employee at a vision care center that the glasses could not be repaired - we would have to replace the frames. Problem - they couldn't do it there. The employee suggested that we go to Douglas Optical. My goodness! This gentleman did excellent work, and is very kind. We did not have to replace the frames after all; the gentleman was able to salvage the original frames. His prices are very, very reasonable, and he did the work very quickly. I am writing this letter to complain about the poor service that I have received from Douglas Optical today who lost small parts of my prescription glasses in minutes and rudely told me to get out of the store. I was blindly referred by a receptionist from a reputable optometrist in my local area with hopes that they could find a titanium temple for my Tommy Bahama glasses which accidentally broke off. My first impression was this store is a big mess filled with clutter, dirt and totally unorganized. Nevertheless, I entered with my glasses anyhow, broken temple and two small screws including the hinge taped to a one inch square piece of paper inside a Ziploc bag for the main purpose of keeping all of the parts intact. I tried to explain my issue, but that ignorant woman said to place everything in a plastic tray only to find out later that they could not find a matching temple which I understand, but then they lost those important parts and I blame that woman who was so careless. I was very angry at that man whom I believe is the foreign owner and woman whose English is their second language who are both sly, shady, crooked as well as untrustworthy! Never in my life have I ever experienced such ridiculous customer service and as a result, do not even think about having any service at Douglas Optical in Long Beach. First of all I must say that this place is a dump! I can't even imagine the last time someone dusted in there. Glasses everywhere! Let me explain my visit. This morning as I was cleaning my glasses the lense came out and since I work across the street, I ran there (keeping in mind I have never been in there before) had to wait since there was a customer in front of me. Must add she was a little angry that her contact lenses were not there. Anyway she leaves and he asks how he can help me and I say that I work across the street and that my lense fell out and he yelled at me and said "NO NO NO I WILL NOT FIX YOUR GLASSES TELL YOUR BOSS HE IS SON OF A B*&CH" So I say I'm not him, not like I wanted it for free!!! I was so appalled by this that I had to come right here and yelp! Also just a quick note... My coworker went there a couple of weeks and go and he had white powder on his nose and yelled are her too. So one would say "why did I go?" When one is desperate and needs to see and there is shop across the street lets just say convenience was on my side. I don't usually write reviews but when I do that means I was happy with the outcome. I was looking for a place that would fix my broken eyeglasses as I had previously gone to so many optical shops including LensCrafters where I have my account and eyeglass purchases. They always tell me that it cannot be fixed anymore and should get a new one. There was one shop who would fix it but the charge is the same as buying a new pair. I was looking to buy the same frame (Chanel) elsewhere and just replace the lens but it was just too expensive. So I googled and found Douglas Optical and read the reviews which to some have the same issue as mine. So I went and gave it a shot. The first thing I noticed is that the place is like a family-owned business, which I like. You are treated in a way as a family as well, very warm. I went in and was greeted with a smile and they took my glasses for assessment. They right away worked on fixing the broken hinge on one of the arms of my eyeglasses. I went in 20 mins into closing, but they took me in without question. My glasses were fixed in 30 mins tops. I was really amazed! They were the only one who was able to fix it, paid only $20, and was out the door in half an hour. What a very ideal place to go. Barry and everyone else (his family) were so friendly. I finally found a new shop to go to for my eyeglasses, where I know I wouldn't be scammed. I felt the genuineness and simplicity of this place and the people who work there. This place is not a dump. But there are frames, frames, frames crammed into just about every available space, giving this place more of a thrift store vibe than your typical shiny, mall style optometrist. I've always preferred funky dive bars over trendy, upscale taverns so this suits me fine. There are hundreds of new and vintage frames spanning various decades, and it is easy to spend hours searching for the perfect look for your freakish face. Fortunately, they can have your glasses ready in 15 minutes! Although my fine-ass girlfriend had already purchased frames elsewhere, she said she wished we had discovered this place first because there were many cute selections for a fraction of what she paid. Barry, the owner, was very cordial and nothing like the screaming, coke-addled jerk hinted at in Kelli C's review. When he asked how we discovered his shop, I told him on Yelp and being the nosy type asked him about the "Sonuvabitch" across the street. Hahaha! Long story short, I like Barry... he's a straight-shooter. Even when we asked him to redo a couple of lenses due to very slight imperfections, he didn't complain or give us any attitude whatsoever. I broke my glasses last night and looked up glasses repair spots in LB. I found this gem here on yelp. Barry greeted me as I arrived and I showed him my glasses, he told me it was a welding issue with my glasses and was kind enough to recommend another store for me. I couldn't go without glasses so I asked him how much were glasses, he told me $59 for just standard lenses and I could choose from the free lenses or buy the name brand ones and get lenses free. I didn't have prescription for my glasses so I was expecting to pay for an eye exam, but Barry was able to pull up my prescription by examining my old lenses. The free frames have an HUGE selection! It took me forever to find the right pair. Usually at other places, their free frames are horrendous, but you'll find something for everyone there. Barry told me it would take about 5 minutes to get the lenses in the frame and I can be on my way. I loved the free selection so much that I bought two! Barry was the only one working so it took me about 20 minutes to get both frames with the prescribed lenses. I can't believe I haven't been here before! I spent $118 for 2 frames w/prescribed lenses and didn't have to wait the standard 2 weeks for glasses! Way cheaper then my frames and lenses from Costco. I didn't get anything special on my lenses like anti-glare and scratch resistant so it might be a bit more if you want those. If you are in need of some glasses right away, love to save money and fast service, this is the place for you! I'm definitely recommending this place to all my family and friends! read more

I usually go to Costco or Walmart for my sunglasses but I knew it would take at least a week turnaround time and would cost $200+ for my prescription sunglass lenses. So I checked Yelp and found Douglas Optical. I called on a Saturday at 1pm (hour before closing) for an estimate on polycarbonate lenses for my prescription sunglasses, got an unbeatable price, $109. And they said they could have it ready in an hour! and they did!! read more

I had a new prescription for progressive lenses. Getting old.... Ordered them from Costco and they weren't right so I brought them back. Same for the next pair so I went to Walmart. and had the same problem, they just couldn't get it right. Then I went to Barry. He assured me that the problem as the quality of lenses they use. He only uses the highest quality. Boy we he right. That was 10 years ago and probably a dozen pairs of glasses later and I still will only go to Barry. Same for my wife. Best experience I've ever had when buying new eyeglasses. The staff was amazingly friendly and would also crack jokes with the customers. I lost my glasses the previous night and thought that I was going to have to wait for the glasses to get sent to the lab and back or at least have to pay an arm and a leg at a place like LensCrafters but Barry and his team did it for a fraction of the cost and in less than 30 mins. I've broken my glasses twice cuz I was careless and irresponsible, and all it takes is a quick visit. I pick out a frame and hand them over and wait about 10 minutes. Then, MAGIC! I got a new set of glasses! It's quick, instant and I get my glasses the same day! He's got a huge wall of free frames and I love anything free! I only paid for the lenses. We will be coming here all the time from now on. Barry and his wife are extremely nice, professional, and quick. Got our 5 year old daughter's glasses repaired for only $12! My wife and I couldn't believe it. Especially since my daughter had put such a hurting on the frames. While we were waiting, his wife showed us some amazing rubber frames that are specifically made for very young glass wearers . We will definitely be going back there next year to get those for our daughter. Anyway, they did the job immediately and we were out of there in 20 minutes. This was the worst experience I have ever had at any establishment! The owner was so rude and disrespectful. His prices are always different, his work is awful (the lens cut did not match the frame), his frames are cheaply made, and he does not guarantee anything he does. He yelled at my mother and scream for us to leave his store for asking to fix my glasses, after he completely broke them down the middle. Changed a pair of broken frames. Was very happy initially. However, as the lenses were not grinded to fit, the rubber frames broke due to the tight fit. Got a free replacement, but the frames were the exact type, and as expected, broke again after a few days. Not wasting my time to go over there again. read more
