I couldn't find there office. I was there last year, but just couldn't find it. I called 11:45, 15 minutes before they closed for lunch. The young lady was so nice and said we could do everything by phone. My friend just moved here and needed service put in his name. She said the bill had not been paid in six months. Gayle and I recently moved to Genoa from the Bay Area. Yes, 2 more Californians have "invaded" Nevada. However, since Gayle's family arrived in Genoa around the 1940s, I'd like to say that at least she has come home. Besides politics and taxes, there have been a few things we've needed to get used to. One is garbage service, and every Tuesday evening our "can" is out on the curb for pickup the following morning. That's can singular, with no provision for green waste of recycle. If you want to recycle cans and bottles, there's provision for that right next to Jack's Valley Elementary in Carson City. However, if you want to recycle your paper and cardboard, then you'll need to schlep down to the Douglas Disposal Transfer Station around 15 miles (and change) down the road. Turn It's actually a pretty drive once you're past Walmart, and the animal shelter and fairgrounds are on the way. In any event, it's best to collect one's errands before making this trip. Once you're here, turn right before the scales and the recycle bins await. Besides all the usual plastic, tin, aluminum, and glass bins, there's one for white paper only and newspapers and magazines. If in doubt, the rest of my paper goes in the latter. It's also relatively tight quarters here, so watch out for other citizens and dump-related heavy equipment. Actually, it shouldn't be this hard to recycle from home and I now understand why several of our neighbors say "screw it" and just trash the whole thing. We may get there eventually. read more

Douglas Disposal is more than just a transfer station. It does this well, but its recycling center is something worthy of your attention. If it's recyclable, they'll take care of it. I primarily use it for my empty glass containers, newspapers, cardboard, tin, aluminum, and plastic. I occasionally use it for batteries, mercury containing lights, and paint (although you do need to make an appointment to drop off partial containers of paint). I have noticed that others are bringing down used engine oil, but I'm a bit too lazy for this. Many people are taking full advantage of this location, and it is not uncommon to be crowded, especially when I seem to go, Saturday mornings. During the workweek, or later on a Saturday, it seems to be less crowded. Yesterday was a great example of how nice they are as well. It wasn't crowded and I had glass, newspaper and cardboard. The man that worked there came over and unloaded half of my stuff for me. This is the first time this has happened, but it was not expected and it was appreciated. Maybe it's an example of small town graciousness, or it might simply be this man's great attitude, but these kind of people seem to be few and far between. So, yes, it's a transfer station for your general household refuse, but it's so much more. read more

We live in Lyon County, which does not have recycling - but we do the bulk of our shopping in Douglas County. Every week or two we bring our bottles, aluminum, plastic, cardboard, etc. to the recycling center on one of our shopping runs. This used to be a company that could get things done in a timely manner. I asked a supervisor how long it would take to replace a 3 CuYd dumpster with a 4 CuYd. He told me it would take 2-3 days. I've been waiting over a week and my dumpster is at capacity. Called owner of the company and supervisor and no return phone calls. Too bad the girls in the office have to take the brunt of customer frustration because the guys in the field sit on their thumbs. Yes...they need some competition in this valley. read more

To bad this is the only game in town. The don't pick up on a regular basis and if you call to ask them to come pick up your garbage they say we'll do it next week. What are we paying for but garbage !! I was late paying them one month out of 10 years because my husband committed suicide and they threatened to cut off my service This company needs competition !!
