    The cardboard container.

Douglas Disposal is more than just a transfer station. It does this well, but its recycling center is something worthy of your attention. If it's recyclable, they'll take care of it. I primarily use it for my empty glass containers, newspapers, cardboard, tin, aluminum, and plastic. I occasionally use it for batteries, mercury containing lights, and paint (although you do need to make an appointment to drop off partial containers of paint). I have noticed that others are bringing down used engine oil, but I'm a bit too lazy for this. Many people are taking full advantage of this location, and it is not uncommon to be crowded, especially when I seem to go, Saturday mornings. During the workweek, or later on a Saturday, it seems to be less crowded. Yesterday was a great example of how nice they are as well. It wasn't crowded and I had glass, newspaper and cardboard. The man that worked there came over and unloaded half of my stuff for me. This is the first time this has happened, but it was not expected and it was appreciated. Maybe it's an example of small town graciousness, or it might simply be this man's great attitude, but these kind of people seem to be few and far between. So, yes, it's a transfer station for your general household refuse, but it's so much more.

Staff were friendly and helpful. The rates were cheap compared to California. Just packing by brother up for a long distance move. Thanks

Is the dump. It does what it needs to. Always a fun time flinging my trash bags at the giant pile. What else is there to say about it

Well organized with friendly and helpful people who work there. It makes it less dreadful to have to go to the dump.

I LOVE that they have an actual recycling center in South Lake Tahoe, especially because many restaurants/stores/outside bins can be deceptive thinking you're actually recycling/composting when in reality, they group it all together when they taking the trash out (yes, I'm talking to you Taco Bell next door). At this center, they are particular about the CRV and cleanliness. One thing I'd wish they'd improve on is being consistent with allowing other plastics to be recycled that have the PET symbol on it even though there's no buy/back value. I do this for the environment, not for the money (although it's a nice incentive and extra motivation to make the drive) and I know I'm not alone in being sustainability oriented so that would be a great change. Definitely recommend bringing your items here if you don't have a go-to center already!!!

I like to use the money to donate to people in need since the recyclables are easy to come by for me. The people that work there are always sweet and always have times to joke and chat. All smiles all the time. I would absolutely go there for all your basic needs. Make sure to have CA plates if bringing a lot. If you have other plates you can only bring 25 pounds (or what you think is 25 pounds don't bring more) as it's state law. I learned this. Haha. Make sure to be patient with the people there as they work hard and winter is yucky here.
