I had been using them on the recommendation from a neighbor and while their work is acceptable their pricing is outright robbery. I was charged over $900 dollars for a replacement battery: Battery $330; labor $504 and its failure was a known problem on my 5 series BMW that they missed on a $300 oil change in October. read more

Rethink your decision to have them work on your car. They used scare tactics to persuade me to get work done or I might get stranded somewhere. My quote was 5x's more than another quote I got! Once they had my car the bullshit started. And if your wife drops off the car be careful- they will take advantage of her. I'm been driving around in fear ever since they worked on my car because they lied to me to try and charge me for more services I didn't need. read more

I initially went to Dougherty Automotive because I read on-line that they were great at fixing foreign cars like Volvo's (which is what I drive) and, I had been having some difficulty with my vehicle periodically shutting off. My first visit there was promising enough. They seemed knowledgeable and were very pleasant to work with. After the first checkup they recommended that I have some spark plugs end relays changed with the promise that this would fix the problem of my car cutting off on me. I agreed to have the work done only, to find that my car problems went from bad to worse. After spending a considerable amount of money ($570 dollar - almost $600). I still had a broken a car and, they wanted me to put more money into it!! Frustrated with the whole "guessing" process I asked for my money back as the work that they said would fix my car did absolutely NOTHING! At one point I was told that I could get my money back if they put back the old parts (they had removed) back into my car - WHAT?!! I was then told that I could not get my money back because they stood my their diagnosis of the problem and, that what they replaced in the car would have to be taken care of eventually! My major complaint with this auto service is the lack of integrity and customer satisfaction. It was not about whether they stood by their work or diagnosis. The fact was they had done work on my car that promised to resolve a very dangerous problem (If you ever had your car shut down on you while driving...you will understand!) and when said work did not resolve the matter, their response to me was A) put more money into to having them "try" something else or B) leave with no sort of financial return for my troubles! This is not how a place should EVER conduct business! I wish my experience here was better but, unfortunately it was NOT! There is no FREE estimate as they advertise. I brought in my Mercedes for a raised suspension issue and mentioned a check engine light, which I informed them what it meant. After waiting almost (2) hours, they said they didn't know what the exact problem is, but I can bring my Benz back next week and leave it and charged me $302.21 to tell me what I told them, the suspension is elevated and that they scan my check engine light. These guys are experts at what they do. Bear in mind, they are fixing a variety of European cars and are often maintaining cars so people can keep them for upwards of 200,000 miles. They have exceptional diagnostic capabilities and are honest to a fault. I am saddened to read the few negative reviews posted, because their description could not be further from my 50+ visits I've had to this shop over the years. They have fixed my car on a Sunday even though they were closed. They have always gone above and beyond to make sure I get good value. The dealerships seem to employ only "parts changers" but these guys are top notch mechanics. Bear in mind, they service the racing community, who demand the highest quality repairs, since their next breath may depend upon it. I had an incident years ago where they gave me a probable diagnoses. They told me up front that the particular repair MAY fix my problem, but their may be other underlying issues. They replaced the part, it didn't fix the problem and they removed the part, refunded my money and went on to repair the car to perfection. ANY dealership would have told me I needed both parts. They spent more time to undo the work and make sure I got good value and exceptional repair. This is a gift in my eyes. The very best physicians will recommend the least invasive treatment as a first option, knowing that they may have to go deeper. These guys are the neurosurgeons of the European car community. We trust all our vehicles to their capable hands and have never been disappointed. From a Honda to Porsche, these guys are top of their game. read more

Wouldn't trust my V70R to anyone else. These guys diagnosed issues with the front shocks that the main dealer didn't find and have had my business ever since. Very fair, honest, friendly and engaging. I ran into a known issue with the V70R where the brakes squeal - Dougherty worked beyond reasonable expectation to resolve an issue which has tested Volvo specialists everywhere, investing parts and labor into making me a happy customer - which I am. read more

I've only had good experiences at Dougherty. They do a pretty good job on my VW and they charge less than the dealership.

I've been using Dougherty to service high end European machinery since the 90's. They have always done an excellent job and I trust their work completely. Much more than basic mechanical service is available at this shop, they have artisan fabricators and specialists who know what is really going on with a vehicle. I cannot recommend them more highly if you want the job done right. read more

Dougherty Automotive is the only place I take my Porsche. My first time there (I've been there 6 times since), Bill Dougherty took me around the entire shop to show me the other cars they work on, the Porsches his master mechanics track on the weekends, and the speciality parts that would be going into my car. He didn't have to do that but, it made a difference. They are a cut above the rest. On my last visit, I mentioned that I smelled the faint sweet smell of antifreeze coming from my 911. They changed the coolant (at my request) and said, "Jim, we pressured tested it before the change, and then again, and then after the coolant change we tested it again. That level of thoroughness is exactly why I take my car there. read more

Dougherty did a great job on my 48,000 mile 2003 SL500. I am the original owner and when the baffle in the gas tank came loose, i was facing a $4,000 gas tank replacement. Dougherty offered an alternative repair for $700 which meets the needs. The car needed a number of other repairs which they were able to perform in one day at a substantial savings over the dealer cost. read more

Not a good experience. Dougherty Automotive took my (only) car and held it for two weeks while claiming to be fixing an electrical issue. I stopped by and noticed the car had not moved from the EXACT same spot for a number of days... in the end they decided it would cost me nearly $3000 to fix a wiring issue. I found the parts online for a tenth of the price... and another local shop fixed it for an hour of labor. These guys are not trustworthy and I would definitely not recommend them. Do your research first, and be better informed. I would not pay Dougherty to even look at my car. read more

My review is called "two out of two jobs failed". In May 2013 we took our BMW Z4 to Dougherty's Automotive for two jobs - mount four new tires and fix the automatic convertible top which would not go up or down. They completed the repairs, and we brought the car home. My husband was especially concerned about not scratching the rims when mounting the new tires and that was why we decided to take it to a specialty shop rather than one of the big chains where we take our other cars. He questioned in great detail with Ryan how this would be done, and Ryan stated they had a special machine for this that the big chain retailers do not have. Anyways, my husband actually checked the wheels when we got home and was shocked to not only see scratches but deep gouges in the wheels. So while caught red-handed, they did correct this issue by having the rims resurfaced. The second job completed at the same time was the convertible top. We were informed that the motor/pump was rusted and corroded from water leaking in. We had the pump replaced and discussed, in depth, about protecting the motor from a reoccurrence. The invoice even stated "Apply Sealant to Motor Housing to Protect From Future Water Damage". I personally discussed my concern with Ryan regarding a reoccurrence, and he did lead me to believe they were correcting the problem and preventing it from happening again. We paid the $1275.44 for that repair, and thought the problem was solved. Sometime during the summer of 2015 (two seasons later), we experienced the same problem. Due to timing issues, we were not able to get the car back in the shop until the Fall of 2015. We took it back to Dougherty's only to be told it was the same issue and that their work is only guaranteed for one year ( genuine bmw parts are actually warranted for TWO YEARS, unlimited mileage) Yes, the motor was again rusted and corroded from water - the very thing they said they would protect the new motor from. Why didn't they tell us it was only a temporary fix when we first brought the car there? If we had been informed correctly, of course we would not have wasted $1200+. They took our money and led us to believe the problem was solved. They even charged us $133.56 to look at it (yet their site advertises "free estimates"), and tell us the work they did previously failed. Of course we brought the car home. Why would we pay them to fix something they couldn't fix right the first time. Two jobs - both shoddy workmanship. Yes they corrected the first job only because we did catch it immediately because it was something we could physically see. We cannot see the motor and could only assume they corrected the issue by properly protecting the motor. Obviously they are not experts in foreign car repair, or they just did sloppy work on my repairs. read more
