The socket where our hot water heater plugs in burst into sparks and started smoking. We shut off the power and immediately called around to 10 local electricians to get help. Doug Palmer was the only one to reply to us in a timely manner. They got someone to us as soon as they could and were able to get the problem solved quickly and efficiently. We assumed the price for such a quick emergency fix was going to be excessive (my brother in law is an electrician on the east coast, suggested it would be expensive) but the price came in at 1/3rd of what we were expecting to pay. The invoice we received had a detailed description of what they fixed. The only hiccup was that there was no explanation of how to pay visible on the invoice we received, but calling in connected me to a very helpful person who got things figured out for us. Could not have asked for better service, pricing, or assistance. I will absolutely be using them again for any future electrical issues. read more

Doug Palmer Electric completed a project for me yesterday. They were excellent to work with from inspection to proposal to scheduling to completion. I live out in the country where we are subject to periodic power outages. I have 2 houses on the property. The project Doug Palmer Electric did for me was to wire the main electric panel at my house for a back up generator to supply power the house and garage during these black outs. My well pump is located at the original house on the property, which we now use only for storage, and was wired into the electric panel for that house. Doug Palmer Electric was able to connect the well pump directly to my main panel so the house, garage and well pump now all operate off the same power source and will all operate off the generator during a power outage. I was a Construction Management Consultant for 40 years. In my opinion, Doug Palmer Electric is the best contractor I have worked with and I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone. read more

The most outstanding service I have ever experienced from an electrical company. My landlord can be rather......."particular" lets say. She HAD to be here while the electrician diagnosed our problems. Julie (I think the owner) coordinated well with myself, my landlord, and the electrician to have us all meet at my home. The electrician who came out was named Charlie. Extremely kind man, Very knowledgeable and a pleasure to deal with. Charlie explained how some techs use a method called "quick stab". It's basically a style that the lazier electricians use. He explained how that Vs. a hard wire connection can make a world of difference. Obviously it does considering my "quick stabbed" outlet took a #2 on me. Charlie hard wired the outlets and fixed my 2 week problem. If you want quality electrical work done in your home, I wouldn't hesitate to call up DP electric. Major kudos to DP electric and to Charlie. Thanks again! Got a customer from here on out. read more

I rate this company a two only because the gals in the office were so nice, it should be worse. I scheduled an appointment, two weeks out, to get an estimate for numerous things I needed done. The morning of my appointment the office called apologizing that the estimator had a "family emergency". They then called me back to reschedule the appointment, appropriate, all of which is based on my work schedule. The morning of that appointment the estimator was 20 minutes late so I called the office. Unaware of this situation, the office asked if they could call me back. Upon their call back they informed me the estimator was running 45 minutes late. This would not work with my work schedule. They asked if I'd like to reschedule a third time, I declined. read more

We hired Doug Palmer twice. First to setup the electrician work for our hot tub and second to install a chandelier in our kitchen and we were very happy with the whole experience both times. My mother-in-law is an electrician out of town and told us what she thought we should pay for each job and they came in close to but under estimates each time (without us mentioning them) so their prices seem totally fair. More importantly, they do a great job and are very pleasant to work with from scheduling to having the work done. Both electricians were skilled and efficient but also friendly and polite. Totally unreliable. If your time is valuable don't waste it on Doug Palmer. I took time from a very busy period at work to get some electrical work done in my house and to my surprise the electrician did not show up at the agreed time. This is in spite of the confirmation call that I received from Julie at Doug Palmer the day before (which mentioned nothing about an appointment change). When asked about what happened, I was told that the electrician had another job before mine (although I was scheduled for 8:30am), and that he will only arrive at my place mid-morning. Total waste of my valuable work time. I can understand that schedules change for electricians but not informing customers of such changes as if their time does not matter is utterly unprofessional and disrespectful. I prefer to use my money on a company that values their customers. read more

If I could post a negative stars review, I would. I just watched a friend go through a total shafting by this company. She asked them for an estimate, made several appointments where no one showed up, finally got someone to come, received an estimate, and explained that she was limited on what she could afford to have the work done. The day of the appointment to do the work, the guy didn't show up at the appointed time. She called, the "woman" in the office said they had sent him to a different job. The guy finally showed up almost an hour late. He got lost...driving across the parking lot. (Her space is in the same complex as Palmer). He was there for 3.5 hours (she had to sign off on the hours) and then they tried to bill her for 1/2 hour of "travel" time...to drive...across...the..PARKING LOT! She was assured that she would be billed for time and materials, not to exceed the estimate. Then she gets the bill...and it's for the TOTAL estimate...and they started calling it a "bid" for the total amount of work!! Talk about a bait and switch! They won't give her a rundown of materials, refuse to even discuss it, and are being total asses. I'm in the same complex...and I was going to hire them to do some work in my unit, but after this "oh, it's really a BID, you have to pay the whole BID" crap after every email saying it was an estimate is utter bull and seriously bad business practice. DO NOT USE THESE PEOPLE. They're dishonest. read more

This is from a letter I've sent to this business. This service provider did not appear to want my business and only proceeded when I insisted on him provider further investigation. When they called regarding payment, and I made the complaint, they attempted to justify the amount of the of $120, again for less than 40 minutes, due to it being a weekend. Although, in fact it was not a weekend call and a look at their own invoice would verify this to them. I believe that not only are their rates out of line, but their customer service leaves a lot to be desired. Again, as I've noted, I am late in paying this bill and will accept my own accountability regarding that, however, as noted, I attempted to pay my bill immediately upon receiving the "service" they provided and they refused my payment at that time. I'm glad that others had a better experience. Maybe because I'm a home owner who will not likely contact them again, rather than a rental provider, I didn't fit the valued customer profile they preferred. I don't know. Needless to say, it is unfortunate that I have had to write this review. This call could have been handled so much better. Here is the letter. "Enclosed please find my payment for supposed services rendered. I apologize for the lateness of payment, but will only note that I am very ill and doing the best I can. That being said, please note also, that I attempted to pay at the time the supposed service was provided, but your service provider refused to accept payment at that time. Just another reason that the service fell short for me. Also, please note that your service provider was here for less that 40 minutes, initially told me that there was nothing wrong, even though the light did not switch on, then at my insistence, took the socket apart, said there was nothing wrong with it, but after he put it back together it worked. When I asked why, he couldn't tell me. Needless to say, I don't feel like this is great service, particularly for the price you are charging, $120. I will pay, as I pay my bills. But as I always say to service providers, provide me with good service and everyone will know. Provide me with poor service and everyone will know. Guess what my review will say. Have used Doug Palmer Electrical for 10 years for different occasions. Have been happy with thire services until the last time when we needed house inspection and electrical services. Requested for house inspection service due to the previous good experiences with them. Even thought agent suggested another house inspection service. Everything went fine except a hole in the jacuzzi tub was missed. We understand a person may not be able to see everything 100% of time. So we did not say anything, just to find a contractor to fix it. The house needed electrical service because some of the lights could not be turned on and the creston audio system was not working. Also some bulbs on the high ceiling need to be replaced. I requested service on Sat because that was the only time I was available and the wife did not understand the electrical/audio stuff well. Was told it was going to be 1.5Xnormal rate. I was fine with that as long as the problem was taking care of. Showed the tech where the problem were for about 10 minutes. Pictures were taken. Was told that they had specialist to take care of the audio stuff and would come for the service another time and he would pass on the info to whoever was going to do the service. Nothing was done that day. Ok, the day came. My wife called that the tech said: "I am here to repair the audio". Had to break off my work to explain to the tech where the problems were. Got a call form the tech some time later that he was able to turn some of the lights on and was able to replace the light bulbs on the high ceiling. But he could not fix the other lights and the creston audio system because it was beyond his ability. So I had two major problems with the whole process. I paid 1.5X rate to have service done on Sat because that was the only time I was available. But no service was done and the info was not passed on to the next tech who came to do the service. When the next tech came to do the service, he was able to turn on some of the lights and replaced the bulbs on the high ceiling. The other lights and creston audio system were beyond his ability. Only small part of my problems were solved. Got the bill. No details of the servics or hours. Only the number. Did I pay the full bill? Yes, I did. Am I happy with the service? No, I am not. Don't use this guy! He writes wrong information on home inspections. He writes up older homes with knob and tube as being uninsurable and unsafe in general - which is not true. How convenient that after he scares his home buyer regarding the wiring in a home he is there to offer his electrician services to "fix it". He should lose his contractor's license. Not only does he have a conflict of interest but he writes things on home inspections that aren't true. When you ask him after he has derailed the sale of your home what insurance companies won't insure knob and tube he says he doesn't know, it's just something he "heard". As a home inspector he is supposed to write what he sees in a particular house, not what he has "heard" about insurance. read more

Unfortunately, this company did not live up to their previous review. They came and installed 2 light bulbs and are charging a minimum of $100 when they were suppose to come back and do other work. They billed us incorrectly $260 to hang a chandelier that had not been done and when I called was informed by the female owner that there is a $100 minimum (they were at my house for 20 minutes). It took 3 weeks just to get them to my house and when they said they were going to come back never did. I would NOT recommend this company to anyone, unless you want to wait a long time for work and get overcharged. The gentleman and his son that came to my house were very friendly.
