    Cockroach

I thought for the amount I paid I would get more updated hotel for a suite. The suites are big but not sure where cockroaches are coming from. They are doing construction but not in my room. Someone should contact me. All I got was, I will let the manager know.

Ants in the bed with my daughter
    Tyesha L.

Contacted management that ants were in the bed, on the floor and at the sink but the issue was ignored and I was never contacted. Very unprofessional and will never stay here again. I sent video and pictures because management said the room was checked and they saw nothing. It was clear the room wasn't fully inspected before check in due to old food being in the fridge. I'm going to send my follow up email now alerting them it's now posted to see if there's an outcome. Who pays for ants to be sleeping in their child's bed with them.

No Pool, No Breakfast, No Restaurant After researching multiple Hilton hotels in the area, I chose this one for our family trip to bring my son to CHOP because it was close to Philadelphia and had breakfast and a pool for the kids. Once we checked in, we were told that the pool was not open due because the state says they cannot open it due to COVID. This is not true at all according to the official site for the State of New Jersey and New Jersey Department of Health. My guess is they don't have the staff or want to spend the costs to adhere to the requirements to keep the pool open. My issue is that it should be made known up front that the pool is not available at the time of booking. If I knew that, I wouldn't have booked the hotel. The second main issue is that their website and the Hilton app say there is free breakfast. When we asked about this, we were told there was no free breakfast, but we could purchase a breakfast box for $15. That is not fair or acceptable if you claim that it is part of the amenities of the hotel and then try to charge people for something that should be free. At this point I called Hilton Honors customer care. Over the course of the next hour the person tried to evaluate my options and eventually just connected me to the hotel front desk. So, talking to Hilton customer care is a complete waste of time. At that point I discussed my two main concerns with the person at the front desk as well as the other issues I found. The blood on the shower curtain, stains on the floor including one where my socks would stick to the carpet, no soap in our room and when we asked for a plastic fork to try to eat what food we did have they didn't even have that. All I really wanted was to get back some of the Hilton points I used or money for the time we were here since I wouldn't have booked the place in the first place. I was given two options, checkout and get half my money and points back or deal with it. I asked if they could maybe put me up in another Hilton hotel that had what we needed but he said not because they didn't have enough staff and he started to get agitated with me. I continued to try to explain to him that both those don't really work for me because I need a place to stay with small kids and don't really have the funds to spend much more on a new hotel, plus this whole thing was making us late for our plans. So, we made the choice to stay because at this point there was nothing they were willing to do to put us up in another place. I honestly think they are just too thinly staffed, and the place is just not able to be maintained or operated on the number of people they do have. But if you are looking for a pool and free breakfast do NOT stay here. The only other issues are that the "kitchen" area is just a counter with a sink and a microwave with a TV. We thought we would be getting more of a functional kitchen, but I guess the room we ended up with doesn't have that. The beds were comfortable. Only issue was with the pull out there was food and other stuff on the sheet that was on the mattress, so we took that off and put on the top sheet on the bottom so that the kids had something clean to sleep on.

This is neither the cleanest nor most updated DoubleTree, I've visited, by far (so why come here, right)? The service is so top notch and everyone is so friendly. Twice was I welcomed by Tiffany at the front desk. She has big welcoming eyes and the warmest smile, she's genuine. My last visit she ran around to find me apple juice. This visit, she was helpful in my search for strawberry milk. Apparently, I'm THAT diamond guest who makes off the wall requests and she's THAT efficient accommodating person who makes whatever you ask, appear. Some may call her Tiffany, but I think of her as fairy Godmother, that's how quickly she gets it done. Now, the room.... it's needs some updating as far as the living room furniture and decor. What's there currently needs a shampoo treatment as it's visibly stained. Additionally, the shower curtain is not being changed. Mine reeked of urine. Yes, URINE (Room 303... check on it). I've come here before and felt the hotel was average. It was Tiffany's service that deserved the five stars. It hurts my heart to give any Hilton property less than that, but when you don't invest to be the standard, what do you expect?! Do better.

Extremely outdated and poorly maintained. This is probably the worst of the DoubleTrees I stay in. The entire hotel is very dated from the finishes to the furniture. Features such as Digital Key work intermittently with no rhyme or reason. There is no temperature control in the bedroom of the suites and the mounted light looks like one of those stickup lights from the late 90s. For my money I would go elsewhere

Difficult to get to from NYC by bus. The front desk personel should know the nearest stop and bus company.

First the check in: I requested a 2:00 pm check in which is a hour earlier than the 3:00 pm posted time. I showed up at 2 and our room was ready. Check in was smooth and quick. The desk clerks were very nice. Our room: Seemed very clean. No problems at all. Didn't even find a stray hair. Bed was firm but not too hard. We didn't use housekeeping during our stay. So can't say anything here. The location did seem to attract some traveling school kids. I assume with sports teams. Of course you have kids you can have hallway talking and running. Of course this is not the fault of the property. Luckily this wasn't too bad. They found their rooms at a decent hour. Let's talk breakfast: Not bad at all. Each of the three days was a little different. Eggs, potatoes, French toast, waffles, bagels, pork sausages were all offered at one time or the other. All were hot. Let's talk about breakfast clean up. I witnessed the front desk folks cleaning up tables at the eating area. They did a great job with this, which allowed a lot of folks to roll through. The area: seemed safe and free of homeless or riff raff. Numerous places to eat, get gas or even shop at Walmart. So I do recommend this hotel and if back in the area would stay at again.

Then, the front desk was MIA--after waiting several minutes, two ladies walk up and basically blow me off. My first thought for a description: absent and apathetic. Next, I got into the smelly & defective elevator. I wondered if I accidentally hit a button the first time it called for Help. But then when it did this on my ride back to the lobby, I realized it wasn't me. This venture back downstairs was to ask about the "Sky Lounge" listed on the app as an on-property dining option with light bites. I was hoping to find libations, as I was trying to escape the persistent vacuuming right outside my door past 7PM. I encountered a pushy & sarcastic bartender at a bar in the corner of the lobby who said the "Sky Lounge" didn't exist. I ordered a vodka & soda from her to take back to my room since the lobby was still rowdy (a few hours later)--no soda could be detected so one can assume it was flat--just like this hotel stay.

Rooms have minor signs of wear, water pressure isn't awesome in every room, pantry is very small and is effectively a vending machines worth of goods, and breakfast is some type of eggs and a mix of mostly shelf stable breakfast items. However, the beds, linens, and pillows are reasonably comfy, even for bigger people. The rooms have just enough for cleaning up after a rough day, and the room noise is usually very minor. There's also a dunkin within walking distance if you want a quick coffee. The common areas are very clean, and there's lots of light in the halls and elevators. They also do some minor holiday deco in the main hall, which is a nice touch. Pricing is high if you're trying to entertain a group of kids. The casual traveler won't find much here to be entertained by. But it's a great place for the traveling worker to bed down for the night.

I once got on the elevator to go to the third floor, another person was there going to the fourth floor, the doors closed, the elevator paused at the third floor, then proceeded to the fourth. I had to re-press my floor, then it worked. No more free lemon water outside the elevators. Lack of cleaning routines in the common areas as crumbs were all over the floor and splash marks on the elevator doors. Provided in the rooms were enough towels for three showers. Needless to say we were out of towels after the first morning. I had asked the front desk if they can kindly replace the towels and empty the trash in our room when we left for the day. Upon returning late at night, nothing had been done to the room. Approached the desk the next morning and they were very apologetic and said they would bring towels and empty the trash at my request. I did not want to disturb my partner, but I did call down later that morning and they did come right up. I have a beef with the hotel industry in hole because of their lack of maid service, this just puts an exclamation point at the end of it. The front desk, though friendly there seems to be a communication breakdown between the front desk staff, and the maintenance staff. Pleasant demeanor and assurances at the front desk were negated by the lack of action by the maintenance staff. I needed to iron my shirt for the day and I got the ironing board out and proceeded to unfold it. It was broken. I wound up putting the ironing board on the bed and iron there. We approached the front desk and we were inquiring about cutting our stay short. We asked that our room be made up. We proceeded with our day and came back a few hours later. Our room was not cleaned. We found that the maid was still cleaning other rooms, and asked if our room was on the list to be cleaned. It was not. A maid supervisor knocked on the door and asked if we needed our room cleaned. We said yes. Had we not been there it would not have been done. Our room was painted with incorrect paint color. You could clearly see that they edged with one color and painted with another. You can see exactly where they stopped painting. Taking a shower is an adventure, as the temperature set at the beginning of the shower changes drastically to very cold, prompting immediate temperature adjustments. This happened all the times I showered. Our room also had a slight musty odor that appeared when the air conditioning was not running. One of my pillows also had a slight musty smell. On the positive side, the breakfast in the mornings were above board. Plenty of options to whatever you may like. The only thing lacking was fresh fruit.

Keep in mind, this is only for a 2 day stay - and I'm thankful it's all I had lined up here. Something to also keep in mind is that I'm an incredibly easy 'customer' - I rarely ever complain like some others tend to do, even for the times I probably should. Normally I'd just dismiss it, but this time irritated me a little more than usual. The grounds are very nice and the location is very convenient. There are multiple hotels in the vicinity - some within walking distance - which makes the issues at this location baffling due to the competition all over the area. The first issue I had was the lack of hot water in the shower (the sink was fine). The first night, I had to run the water for over 10 minutes for the water to finally get warm enough (never fully as hot as I'd like it). The second night, I gave up after 20 minutes of no hot water. It was late and I didn't bother to complain, because I wasn't going to sit there while they tried to figure it out. I've never had this experience at any Courtyard or any other hotel before for that matter. Hell, I've stayed at seedy hotels and motels before (don't ask) and I never had this issue before. Keeping it on the subject of plumbing, the toilet was strange - sometimes you'd have to flush it twice. I guess it depended on whatever mood it was in and not the contents. It's one of those bathrooms where the sink is separated from the shower and toilet - I'm not a fan of that design, but it is what it is. Another issue I had were the horrible pillows. They really ought to have some variety, which includes offering firmer pillows. Three pillows and they were terrible. Three pillows and I can grab all three with one hand and still make a fist. I had to roll up the blanket to use as a pillow. I didn't sleep well either night I was there because of that. It's almost miraculous I didn't wake up with the sore neck I predicted I would. Yet another issue was the lack of turn down service - they never came into my room once during my 2 day stay and I was gone from the room for most of the days. Luckily I'm not a slob like other hotel guests are, so it was just a minimal issue to me and I still had enough towels. I just mention it to mention it. The mini fridge is really small (and had to be adjusted temp wise), so be strategic with whatever you choose to use it for - if at all. While some would complain about the "thin walls", it's more of the other hotels guests being loud, oblivious, weird, and rude and not the hotel's fault. They did put me in a room with an adjoining room - the guests on that side were a little loud, but once I blasted my TV they seemed to take the hint to pipe down a few notches. I didn't use any of the hotel amenities to comment on them. I didn't need the wifi, didn't bother with whatever "breakfast" they offered, didn't use the "fitness" room, or anything else. It was just in the room and out and nothing more. Everything was clean, though the lower outside of the tub had some marks on it that might make other guests complain. As mentioned, the grounds are nice and there was plenty of parking. Speaking of parking, they apparently charge a $10 daily parking fee for some reason - but mine was waved. A small bonus for the inconveniences of this stay, but to charge for parking here at all is a little strange. Most of the staff were acceptable. The two in the front I deal with were friendly. Some of the other staff however weren't friendly at all. I still plan to use Courtyard again - just not this location ever again. Hopefully this is not a trend and all others will start following the problems of this location, otherwise I might have to look for another brand to use altogether. Over a dozen hotels in the very immediate area and I chose the wrong one................this time.

Aloft one of Marriott's "modern" hotel lines (along with AC which is good). I've been at 3 Alofts because I like punishment apparently. So, what's wrong with Aloft? Look at the pictures. One is of the "closet". It's not a real closet. It can only hang 5 items because of the configuration. It has a shower curtain as a "door". And notice. NO DRAWERS. In fact, there are no drawers in the entire room. None. Everything is in the open. What modern person has essentially a non functioning closet and no drawers for anything? No one. That's who. Next is the edgy bathroom. This hotel is NOT FAMILY FRIENDLY. Why you say? Look at the bedroom pic. That's a frosted window INTO THE SHOWER. See the shower pic to see the frosted window. How edgy that must be for a couple. Sure you can't see anything but you can see shadows. So do you want your kids trying to see if they can see mom in the shower? No of course you don't. Also, the shower section is barely lit so hopefully you can shower with your eyes closed in the dark. Finally, the materials are cheap and not well maintained. Everything is laminate fake wood and it's all peeling. And that's not just this one. It's been all 3. Plus plenty of other fit and finish stuff like the giant scuff on the wallpaper from the desk chair. Or the almost broken door lock. Oh and outlet placement is pretty terrible too at the desk. Now the good news is this hotel is next to a Millers. The wxyz bar is pretty good. And inside is a "high end" steak restaurant (not run by Marriott) which has a fantastic bar and terrible overpriced food (ok so that's not good news). I didn't interact with any staff so I don't know if they were amazing or not. Honestly, there are 20+ hotels in a 2 mile radius. Stay somewhere else. If you're Marriott, the Courtyard across the street is pretty good especially for the price. And if a manager reads this, don't reply back. Your best course of action is to find a better hotel to manage.

The scramble eggs, potatoes, sausage was really good. Plenty table space and tables for large groups if was eating together. Big TV over the fire place. Over all, this is a good hotel and definitely could be a 5 star hotel. But for me the lack of personal touch is a loss star for me. Others might like that part though. But this is my review

The rooms were comfortable and clean. There was also a decent gym too which is nice as I like to use the gym at some point. There's an indoor pool as well . I would definitely stay here again when back in the area.

The parking in the front was full but there was ample parking in the back as well as an entrance there. However, the door at the entrance was malfunctioning slightly and had to be opened just the right way. We explored the area and enjoyed both an ice cream shop and a bakery nearby. Our room was ok. There was signs of wear and tear but nothing really egregious. The biggest detraction was the next morning when we were getting ready. My aunt left the bathroom saying that she couldn't get the shower to work. I went to check and sure enough, there was a hole in the back of the showerhead. A small bit of water was coming out of the front of the shower head while the rest poured out the back. Looks like we weren't taking showers (unfortunately as we had a long car ride ahead of us). I went to the front desk on our way out. It appears the air conditioning was out in the lobby (unfortunate during a scorcher of a summer). I let the front desk agent know that the shower in our room wasn't functioning and that they might not want to check anyone in to that room again. She asked if I had submitted a report yesterday (I hadn't). She looked in their system, found the report for our room, and said she'd add an additional note. I walked away wondering why we got checked into a room with a known malfunction. Alas, with plenty of other hotel options in the area, I won't be returning to this one.
