We wrapped up our informal wander through the fabulous Delmar Loop and drifted up here for a final drink, a skyline check and that signature rotating oversized Moon glowing over the building. By pure luck, it was a full moon over Saint Louis too which felt a little on the nose in the best possible way. The rooftop is solid, a clear arc of the city that makes you slow down to appreciate the view. The space itself is exactly what you want at the end of the night. Open, relaxed and elevated enough to feel like a finale without trying too hard. The music was much louder than I'd prefer and not an artist I'd ever queue up for a mellow nightcap and it did sort of get in the way of the vibe. The kitchen had already closed, which killed the idea of a final nibble with our round of drinks. The bartender did offer the workaround of having DoorDash delivered to the bar but we weren't going to hang around that long. The Old Fashioned he put together was excellent, balanced and smooth. Just what I needed as my Fitbit clocked over 10k steps. As a final stop on a Loop night, the Moonrise works beautifully. You get the view of downtown Saint Louis in the distance, the atmosphere, the giant Moon doing its thing and a comfortable landing spot before calling it a night. I even got to watch my Royals (that's right STL, my ROYALS) win game 6 of the World Series in resounding fashion up on the rooftop here. Good times. A dozen or so years later, feeling nostalgic, and having struck out on some downtown STL hotels, I opted to come back here. Unlike my Royals, this place has still got it. Friendly staff upon check-in, and they let me know they don't have valet which I was honestly relieved about. When I'm traveling solo, I sort of just want access to my car, not to have to wait 15 minutes to go to the trouble of retrieving a phone charger out of my console. There is a little lot in the back that they'll check if you're a guest before allowing you in during busy periods. The room was nice, and the elevators are quick. The shower pressure is WAY better than I remember, at least it was on the third floor. The bed was insanely comfortable, and really, no complaints. The one issue was the little room couch was filthy in my room, with visible stains and grossness.. I just avoided it during my stay. The rest of the room was clean. No hotel gym that I noticed, but not far from Forest Park if you want to jog or walk (beware the insane STL drivers). I also took my takeout dinner to the rooftop which was nice, but not yet open for the season. I still appreciate them letting me up there for some fresh air and views. Lastly, the Delmar Loop has quite a bit! This area offers good coffee shops, a store, tons of quality restaurants, and all within walking distance. Nice place overall, and definitely in my consideration every time I come to STL.

There is a $10/night fee for self/ parking, which is a bit odd. There are spaces right outside the hotel or in lot just behind it. I will say that I was unaware of the fee for parking (I just happened to hear someone at the front desk telling a guest about it). I always check-in through the app, so I often don't come in contact with the front desk staff. Once I overheard that conversation, I called the front desk from my room and the parking fee was confirmed. I had to give them a description of my vehicle and I the state of registration. Makes me wonder if I would have been ticketed or towed if I didn't learn of the parking situation. There should be signs or a note in the app notifying guests about your parking. That is my only complaint. Rooms were fine, the free breakfast was standard for a Hampton Inn. Worth noting: there was no closet in my room. I found this to be very odd. There was a full length mirror bolted over what appeared to have once been a closet. Luckily I didn't need to hang any clothes, but that was really odd to me.

FIVE STARS go out to all the staff, who went out of their way to ensure we had the best visit possible. Special thanks to Malissa at the front desk who checked us in and always greeted us warmly with a smile and asked about our day; she was so friendly and made us feel so welcome! Thanks also to Josh Garrett, who answered our questions about the area; Jay, who took care of the laundry and made sure all the common areas were fresh and tidy; and all the ladies in the breakfast room! They started our morning out on a high note with the sunshine they carried with them. The breakfasts were always tasty and filling every morning, and we really appreciate breakfast on-site that was included in our stay! It was so convenient to have our first meal there before we ventured out into the city each day. Having hot items as well as the usual fruits, pastries, waffles and cereal was very nice. We also appreciated having the coffee and tea bar open 24 hours a day. The rooms are fairly well-insulated. We heard minimal noise in the hallways and none from outside the hotel, despite the proximity of I-64 (just one block away). The location of the Hampton is ideal for those visiting Forest Park and its environs. The Park is just 5 minutes away by car, and the Science Center is just down the street. St Louis Community College is across the street, so the area is generally quiet. There are restaurants and gas stations about a half-mile away, and grocery stores are 10 minutes away by car. Downtown is 10 -15 minutes away, depending on traffic. The few less-than-stellar items we encountered were the mattresses, which were somewhat lumpy; the bed and bath linens, which were somewhat worn; and our room wall thermostat, which seemed incapable of keeping a steady temperature. These would be fairly easy issues to address and bring the hotel's rating to a solid 5 stars for me. Overall, many thanks to the Hampton Inn at Forest Park for a lovely stay in Saint Louis!

And some of my travels have taken me thru the St Louis area a time or two. Besides being awestruck by some of the beautiful women there, nothing about Missouri in general really ever wowed me! So when my friends told me that our hotel was nice, I was like, "Okay. But how nice can it really be? I mean.. at the end of the day, we're in Missouri. It's the Show Me state, right? Then show me!" So we pull up to a structure that looks like an old train station. Makes sense, because as I found out, it previously was. So kudos to the engineer for breathing new life in to a beautiful, aged edifice. But I'd seen similar before so I wasn't necessarily blown back. Even to access the lobby was a bit tricky so... strike there. We get to the front desk and the staff is warm and inviting. Genuinely so. Points there! You can pay people to be nice but that only lasts so long. When that's just the way you are, that's a different thing altogether! And these people were the real deal! My friends kept talking about walking around and mini golf. It was already getting cold and I don't like the cold so I'm already turned off, but I always like to at least give serendipity a chance so I told my friends I'd go with. Lo and behold, everyone takes a longer than intended nap and I can't sleep, so I decide to go wander by myself. I started by trying to find this mini-golf that's supposed to be connected to the hotel somehow. So I see the sign and I follow it. It takes me though an atrium of some kind where it turns from enclosed environment to a domed, open air feel. Ok. That's cool. Cold, actually but I'm up for an adventure. So I follow the walk way around an ok looking pool, but it was closed because it was cold, and then it happens. I step out on to a boardwalk. The ground literally transformed beneath my feet. In front of me was a lake, with Lily pads (which I later found out held the torches for the pyrotechnics show a little later on), a couple of eateries and not just a mini golf course but an amusement park. I'd never been so amazed in my life. I was completely blown away. Inside this repurposed train station, they created a Shangri-La for the weary Midwest traveller. I gotta say... it was one of the most unexpected things that I've had happen to me in a while. So if you're ever driving through downtown St Louis... just up the street from the Arch... be sure to wander around the St Louis Union Station. And who knows... maybe stay a night or two. It's definitely worth trying at least once.

We did not utilize the Valet for parking but they were ever so kind holding the doors open for us. We went to the front desk. Ms YESHE BUNTOWIJAYA greeted us warmly. She introduced us to the night Manager Mr Luke Hutton. The scooters we rented were already there and powered up for us. It is the only way to get around the large Hotel. Mr Luke recognized the lost look in my eyes when he mentioned getting off on the 8 th floor to go around to another elevator to get to the 9th floor. He stepped right up to take us to our luxurious room. A bell hop already had our luggage from our nieces car and going upstairs with them. Once at our most luxurious room, Luke took time to give us a tour. It was so big I could get lost walking around the bed. Rooms behind and around rooms. I asked Bev if we had a GPS on our scooters to find the Onder Christmas Party. Once we settled in it was quite easy to find our way. The bell hop delivered our bags while we were still having the tour. This was the first time I felt such a respect when I had not earned it yet. Kindness given is easy for kindness returned. We looked around the hotel finding the restaurant for breakfast, and the Spa as well as the ball room. Bev was exhausted from the travel. She kicked off her shoes and laid on top of the bed. She was out like a light. I relaxed writing notes then went to get ready for Bed. I washed up in a bathroom that was perfect for the handicap. I put on a very thick robe the hotel provides. The Bed was wonderful, perfect in every way. Sleep must have been fantastic if I judge by my bed head ...flat in one place. We woke up knowing it was the day of the party. A great Hot shower! A fast dress for a " ...let's explore the hotel more..."outfit! And off we went for a relaxing breakfast. Once in Gordon Ramsey restaurant we were overwhelmed. Juljan was our server and was absolutely professional ,friendly, and had a great sense of humor. Daniel was so very kind welcoming us here. She knew I loved the orange juice and got me a second one. Bev was thrilled with the breakfast. She could only eat a bit of it. I loved the Honey on toast. Hope stopped by our table to join in the laughter and smiles. She let us know she would be at the party that night. Being Treated with such respect and kindness kept the smile on my face our whole stay! After breakfast we went to the ball room flood to pre look how it was laid out. Where to go and if there is room. My ADHD kicks in when there is an unknown. It was being prepared for the party so we did not stay long but long enough to know we were informed a special treat. We then explored the Spa. Delaney was on duty and welcomed us like we were long time friends , respectful and knowledgeable all at once. Bev was looking for something. I wandered. I found a lavender/Eucalyptus spray that was heavenly. Bev saw a tote she really wanted. We purchased both items. Delaney showed us the exercise room and then the elevator to go back to our room. We noticed a light in the living room was not working so we called for help. I looked at the plug, the cord and I could see nothing. I forgot his name. Please look it up and thank him for us. Once at the Party on the 6th floor Hope saw us and came right over to us to say hello. That was so nice to remember us and go out of her way to say hi. I would love to give praises to the following. Tatiana Suero - Restaurant general manager. The staff follows your lead in kindness , professionalism, and attention to detail. Danielle - Restaurant has a smile that made the room brighter. Thoughtful. Xavier- Restaurant very kind and professional Ann- Restaurant attentive to everyone. Hope -Restaurant and bar at night. Juljan- Restaurant Miran Abbas - very helpful and kind. Delaney-Spa a great guide. Very helpful in making choices for our purchases. Lauren- Front desk. Arranged for our ride to the Airport. Mailed our Santa letters we wrote. Bev would not let me see her note. YESHE BUNTOWIJAYA - the first to welcome me. Luke Hutton - his kindness is off the charts! That cannot be taught. He has the rare gift of making us feel like we are the only important guest he has. I know I'm not important. Bev is ... but Luke made me feel important. Kelsey Stanfield - on the phone . I asked questions and she was so helpful. She answered everything for me. Atharva- on the phone. Was very helpful with the spelling of his co-workers names. He did not mind at all. Karim- front desk. Answered many calls from me when I first arrived. He was patient and kind. I do hope we earned the respect and kindness that everyone presented us with. We felt like family.

Whether it is the quaintly appointed guest…read morerooms or the delightful library and parlor, each area of this former residence is unique and meticulously maintained. While it is not likely the norm, the owners, Mark & Leslie, met us at the front door, quite literally inviting us into their establishment. It was simply the most welcoming manner in which to be introduced to this treasure and Leslie quickly engaged us with the history of the home and how she and Mark had recently become the owners. We chose this destination based upon the significance of the Fleur-de-lis to my love, a native New Orleanian. Given St. Louis' rich French heritage, the mansion was originally outfitted with four chimneys that feature the fleur-de-lis design and the pattern is repeated throughout the home. While we enjoyed a quiet morning coffee in the back of the property, a lovely shaded patio area, she noticed how many places the symbol was present. She actually made mention to Mark & Leslie that they could make an activity out of counting/finding all of the fleur-de-lis around the home. What a fun idea! We were fortunate enough to book the Tower Grove Park room, a spacious room fitted with a king-size bed and a two-person jacuzzi tub. There is even a 'fainting couch' for that extra French touch! The bed was amazingly comfortable and the decor and accoutrements were exceptional, right down to the pocket doors and writing desk. But a B&B is set apart by the fare served in the morning, and this is where Mark, a chef by trade, and Leslie, a self-taught baker, knock it out of the park. That morning's menu included a fruit starter, fresh juice, Leslie's home-baked sourdough toast and home-baked English muffins, and Mark's egg and sausage soufflés with country potatoes. The entire breakfast had us completely over the moon! We felt so at home that we wanted to clear our own place - so we did! The rates are competitive and well worth every moment spent here. There is parking behind the property, as well as across from the property, and each guest is allowed a unique security code so as to gain entry while you are enjoying your stay. I can't say enough about how much we enjoyed this getaway, and Mark, Leslie, & assistant Sammy made us feel like family from the moment we crossed the threshold. We'll be back - and you should give Fleur-de-Lys a try!
