    Room 226. Bathroom.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Dothan for one night, October 8, 2016. As part of a wedding block, the cost was $135.30 (taxes included) for a room with a king bed. We didn't have any problems with our short stay at this hotel. The bed was super comfy (silky smooth sheets and soft pillows). The hotel looks pretty up-to-date and modern. It's clean. Our check-in time was 3pm, but that almost got pushed back because the hotel was at capacity due to folks displaced by Hurricane Matthew. The guy at the front desk (who was friendly, by the way) told us housekeeping had the daunting task of turning over 100+ rooms for Saturday night, which isn't normal. Luckily, after a short wait, we were able to snag a room shortly after 3. We had room 226 which had a view of the VW dealership next door. The room was clean and I watched college football on the TV. The TV had a decent selection of channels, though some were non-HD. There were the usual essentials: iron, ironing board, microwave, coffee maker (Keurig), mini fridge, soap, shampoo, conditioner, body lotion (that made me smell like coconut and lime), makeup remover, etc. The hotel will provide stuff like toothbrushes, toothpaste, etc. upon request (complimentary). I liked how the shower drained in the center. The shower floor was a bit slippery though which is a safety concern. Also, one of the shower doors had a lot of mold/mildew buildup on the bottom, which was off-putting. I loved how bright the lights were in the bathroom. The AC worked great. Wi-Fi was free and the speeds were decent, but only after bouncing around a few different Holiday Inn Wi-Fi networks to find a good one. We grabbed ice from the second floor ice maker a couple times and it worked fine. We had breakfast at 7am on Sunday morning. Breakfast opens at 6:30. We were the first to arrive. Breakfast wasn't included with our booking, so we paid an extra $6.99 per person + the cost of coffee. Breakfast was A-OK. It was a standard American breakfast buffet that consisted of items like grits, scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, pancakes, biscuits, gravy, fruit (watermelon, blueberries, cantaloupe, pineapple, strawberries, etc.), boxed cereal, and yogurt. Our server was exceptionally nice. The restaurant had two TVs tuned to the news. One TV was tuned to CNN and the other Fox News. In the end, this is not a bad hotel. It's simple and gets the job done. Plenty of parking out front too.

The Grand On Foster - Outside courtyard.

    The Grand On Foster

I'm not sure what this place used to be, but the courtyard in the back looks like it was once a part of the inside of the building. All of the walls are brick (some of the exposed variety) with cement columns. The wedding ceremony took place in the courtyard. The courtyard is walled in with brick that extends two stories high. There's a fountain, plants, string lighting, spiral staircases that lead to overlooks above, and a couple neat little nooks and crannies. The atmosphere is rustic yet refined. The wedding was intimate with I guesstimate about 50 guests. I believe this venue can handle at least 125, however. Due to the small nature of the wedding and the walled-in courtyard, no mics were necessary for the ceremony. As guests, we could hear every word spoken by the pastor and the bride and groom. The reception took place inside in The Grand's two ground-level ballrooms, the Orleans Ballroom and the St. Charles Ballroom. The Orleans Ballroom is where the dinner, DJ, and dance floor were located. The St. Charles Ballroom is where the dinner buffet, drinks, and wedding cake were located. I don't recall who catered the food, but the menu consisted of pork loin with pineapple habanero sauce, baked chicken in a light lemon butter sauce, mashed potato bake, mixed roasted vegetables, spring mix salad, and rolls. Beverages included water, sweet tea, ginger ale, and Coke. The food was A-OK. The cake was phenomenal. I got seconds and was stuffed silly by the end of the night. The wedding was short and sweet, but still traditional and elegant in every way. I had a good time and consider this a terrific, simple, and classic-looking venue for medium to large sized events. Though there isn't a dedicated parking lot for The Grand, there is plenty of free public parking on downtown streets and in various lots. I parallel parked on Foster next to the Federal Building. Check out the directions page on The Grand's website for a helpful parking map: http://thegrandonfoster.com/directions/.
