Upon returning, we were paired with an "Axe Master", who was knowledgeable and guided us through axe throwing technique and etiquette. Just got back from an excellent 3.5 day retreat at Butter and Egg Adventures…read more My husband and I brought 25 students, plus our two kids down to Troy. While the website was impressive, we had no idea the treat we were in for! The staff is warm and welcoming. The camp is family run, and it is obvious that the rest of the staff are included in that warmth. Our students had a blast on the zip lines and ropes courses, and grew together as a group through the facilitated team building activities. As a director of Residential Life it was incredibly heart warming watching the students open up to each other and work together in a new way. Honestly, I really can't say enough good things. Even though my husband and I were the only chaperones of 25 teens (with our two kids), we felt relaxed the entire time. Because of the staff's collaboration with us, we knew the students were taken care of. It made the entire adventure a relaxing experience - which, believe me, is a huge feat. While there were threats of a storm (which never happened) we felt perfectly safe with the camp's procedures. Any of our group's random complications were handled with grace and support. You can really tell the thought and care that Susan, Ron, Natalie, and the rest of the crew put into the entire experience. However, when we were here for our conference we had a bunch of people coming together and wanting to do something together. On this trip, we visited here twice. We escaped twice. To note, it wasn't the same group each time I visited, but it was a nice mix of people that we really enjoyed ourselves. When we booked, we just booked for two people to kind of reserve the room. The additions paid when they showed up to the facility. Upon our first go round here, we were early. We joked that we would love to have a drink while in here. The staff promptly told us that we can partake in alcohol and that if we wanted to get a drink we could go to one of the nearby restaurants or the liquor store up the block. We did a quick run and were set free into our rooms for each respective room. Seeing my colleagues and friends coming together to bust out of a room was amazing. We were able to figure out the clues and once we were organized into teams inside the room, we defeated each of them. Escape rooms are a fun thing to do, whether you escape or not. We really enjoyed these ones at this locations and if time would have permitted, we would have taken on more.

For starters the air conditioning was broken so they only had fans in the rooms, tolerable but not ideal. The clues were obscure and there was no flow to the room. When we got stuck, we pushed the button for a clue. We pushed the button several times, asked for a clue verbally and after 6 minutes of waiting we decided that our experience was ruined. We walked out of the room and asked for our money back. The staff member told us there were only two people working, which was why we weren't getting our clues. I feel bad for the staff; it's not their fault they are understaffed. The manager did not give us our full amount back. These rooms aren't cheap either. Poor customer service and practices on top of value.
