I have been going to Double Rainbow ever since I was a kid. This place brings me a lot of fond memories, most of which were with my dad. He loved coming here and became friends with the owner. I started coming back more often after he passed and it brings me joy to see that it is still operating and that the owner is still there behind the counter and working alongside his family. Double Rainbow has been a local staple of San Pablo for many years and has contributed and served the community with great hospitality and delicious ice cream flavors! My go-to is the cappuccino frosts and the strawberry cheesecake ice cream (cheesecake pieces and real strawberries)! I put my bf on the cappuccino frosts and now we drop in every now and then for some! We have become semi-regulars now haha. I'm also very happy that they brought back their lychee nut ice cream (with real lychee pieces), another favorite of mine! I haven't tried their ice cream cakes recently, but remember getting them for my birthday as a kid, along with their clown cones! Their prices are also very decent. Definitely stop by and check out this local ice cream spot! read more

I just moved to the area and love supporting local businesses and stumbled upon this gem. I love the interior, it's giving 1970's vibes, very retro and old fashion! I got the pistachio ice cream and it was very creamy which I love! The employee was nice and patient with me since it was my first time and I couldn't decide what to get. I will definitely be back here and try their other flavors. Parking was not hard as they have a lot of space. read more

Would you believe that the location Double Rainbow is at use to be Baskin Robbins? It is great that there is a ice cream place across from McDonald's. I love that there is a place to get ice cream. Contra Costa College students can grab ice cream in between classes. El Portal got a place to get ice cream. The service at Double Rainbow was amazing. I think Double Rainbow is family owned because it seem like no teenagers were working there. I will try Double Rainbow again read more

I've been coming here for over 10 years and it has never disappointed. It's truly a local staple, and I'm so glad to see it still going strong. The owners are always so welcoming and great to see whenever I stop by. And of course, the ice cream is consistently delicious every single time! read more

We were here for a quick ice cream and i can see remnants of Baskin Robbin's decor. However, the ice cream does not taste very fresh; it's true the costs is less than BR31 but unfortunately the Ice Cream just didn't taste that good. If i get a redo, i probably skip our visit. The gentlemen's who helped us was very nice though! read more

Their ice cream is a cut above commercial quality, prices reasonable! The German Chocolate cake is yummy, as was the ice cream smoothy. read more

A reliable scoop of good no-frills ice cream! Since 1976 and with its first store opening in SF, Double Rainbow continues to be family owned and operated to this day, with both retail and wholesale distribution across the country. This location was a little sleepy in one of San Pablo's many plazas. I decided to stop by after a dinner run to Koi Sushi. There were a ton of flavors but I gravitated toward my childhood favorites, mint chocolate chip and butter pecan. Portion was hefty, scooper was friendly, and the taste was refreshing, creamy and nostalgic. They also have yummy looking custom ice cream cakes in the display and booths on the side if you want to dine in. I would return to satisfy the local ice cream fix and try the other flavors! read more

Love this place in downtown Benicia! Very cute area. The girls who work here are superb, very friendly, helpful and always have a smile on their faces. I especially love that they're the only ones who serve soy ice cream - love the soy very cherry chip! Reminds me of Ben n Jerry's cherry Garcia but better in my opinion because it's soy! It's also wonderful that you can place an online order for pick up! Recently discovered this flavor this summer, hope it sticks around! read more

Double Rainbow Ice Cream - The goody - Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt Near Me - San Pablo, California

Solid ice cream. Roughly 5-6$ a waffle cone scoop and usually quiet so not a lot of noise. I would recommend the banana walnut!

This business has been around for years. I drove there at around 8:30 at night, 30 mins before closing. No customers were around, so it was very quiet. However the owner and second employee were there and attended to me promptly. There were still many flavors to choose from. I ordered a brownie sundae with rocky road and a pint of strawberry ice cream. I devoured that brownie sundae when I got home and I saved the pint in my freezer. I've been eating the pint over the past three or four days and it still tastes good. I'm picky about strawberry ice cream and this was pretty good, had actual strawberries in it. read more

Double Rainbow Ice Cream - a hand holding a cone of ice cream - Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt Near Me - San Pablo, California

I was first introduced to Double Rainbow ice cream when I was in the natural food aisle. I was looking for a decadent, organic ice cream sold in a pint and I came upon Double Rainbow Ice cream. I bought it, opened the lid and took a scoop. It was delicious. Then I was amazed to find out that they actually had an ice cream parlor two miles from where I live. Double Rainbow Ice cream is commonly sold in specialty grocery stores like Ardonico's, Whole Foods, Berkeley Bowl because of their natural approach to making ice cream. Their website states that they "only use the freshest and most natural ingredients". And that the "cream and milk used in their ice cream comes from cows not treated with hormones". Their "ice cream is thicker and creamier than other ice creams because they do not whip excess air into our product, and they use just the right amount of butterfat to ensure that every spoonful tastes rich and delicious". Also most of their ice creams are certified Kosher by the Orthodox Union. This information is taken from their website. I could definitely taste the difference. They don't use high fructose syrup or extra additives to make it sweet. I ordered the strawberry cheesecake ice cream and it had real strawberries and pieces of cheesecake in it--no artificial flavoring. The ice cream is as authentic as one can possibly make it with a creamy, desirable texture. With that said, why only 3 stars? There's much to be improved about the actual parlor. First, I had to have my ice cream to-go because it would be impossible to enjoy by ice cream there. Unfortunately, there's a distinct, pungent smell as you walk in and it's hard to over look this, especially at a place that serves food. I immediately wondered about the sanitation and the disinfection/cleanliness practices behind the company, and sadly, I preferred to eat my ice-cream in my own car. For a place offering first class, top rated, exclusive ice cream, then their place of business should reflect this. I'm not suggesting that the parlor needs go under renovation with state of the art infrastructure, but if several customers have had similar complaints about the odor, and if paid customers would rather eat their ice cream besides inside the parlor, then something should be done. Secondly, I doubt that most of the customers know anything about the natural ingredients in the ice cream. This is a huge marketing incentive. There's no other place in the El Sob/ Pinole/ Hercules area that offers wholesome ice cream with wholesome ingredients. Yet when you walk into the parlor, there's no literature, posters or pamphlets that say anything about their organic practices. I shouldn't have to look at one place (their website) to find this information, I should be able to walk in their parlor and see it as well. With just a little bit more TLC and sharing more knowledge with their customers, I can see this place thriving. They have the product to get customers, now they just need to find a way to keep the customers there. Four stars for ice cream, minus one star for the parlor. read more

This is a great icecream shop near McDonalds in San Pablo. They have all the traditional flavors with a few not-so traditional flavors, but my favorite is the coffee flavored icecream. The decor could use an update, but if you just want good icecream this is the place. The staff is friendly and they don't seem bothered by my little ones running around. Best part...prices are reasonable. read more

Love this ice cream when I'm visiting family in this part of the Bay. Their service is ok, but they are always friendly read more

The strawberry ice cream cake I bought for my niece's 7th birthday tasted awesome.. however the lettering on top looked like she had written it herself. If you work at a place that offers lettering/piping/handwriting please have decent handwriting!! They should probably also have more than 1 person working at a time. I might have come in at the wrong time when someone was on their break but as soon as another person walks in the door, the employee is already overwhelmed. +3 stars for yummy tasting strawberry ice cream cake and ice cream! -2 stars for the horrendous lettering on my cake and the lack of staff. read more

The owner very nice. The ice cream very lacking. My hubby got banana walnut ice cream. The nuts on top better than the ice cream. I got coffee blast it was overly flavored. It was very strong. I don't recommend this place. The owner again very nice the quality of ice cream was not good. We didn't even finish it. read more

this shop has been around for years, and you can tell it has been. the place looks and feels very old, which kind of gives off liminal space vibes. That's not to say that's a bad thing tho. It's not dirty, just old. Ice cream itself is alright. Nothing to be too excited about but they do have a variety for a fair price too. Definitely a go to place for your ice cream cravings! read more

I have seen long lines in front of ice cream places all over and have at times spent like an hour in lines to get home made ice creams. But this is so far the best ice cream ever. I have tried cherry, vanilla bean, chocolate chip mint, and recently my favourite which I can't stop eating is mango. If you guys love mango u guys are gonna love mango ice cream. It's really good. read more

The owner is so nice! He always remembers my family and I. The ice cream is also delicious, and at a great price!

Arrived at 9:54 to the only employee getting in there car and the store front shut down with lights off. Wish I didn't jump in my car and drive all the way there just to get a rude and somewhat threatening response from the employee getting in his car and leaving. Maybe change the hours to 9:30 or hire employees who will actually stick around until the shop is supposed to close. Didn't get a chance to try the ice cream, I will update my reviews IF I decide to give it another shot at some point. Major disappointment. read more

I don't know if they had a long day or what it was, but they had the nastiest attitudes... I was trying to be polite from the beginning (I work customer service so I know how it can be) but the man just didn't seem to be in the mood. I was trying to finish my order and he kept walking away. While preparing my moms order he had an attitude asking for the toppings. Then when he gave me my order he slapped it down on the counter. The ice cream itself was eh, the attitudes just topped it off as a bad experience. Only went there because Destenys ice cream spot was closed. Next time they're closed again I'll just grab ice cream at the mcdonalds next to this location. read more

Drove out to a blacked out store. Hours are wrong. Gas is too expensive for this. Do better

I've been coming to this spot since I was a kid, the older guy that works there has been the same one that used to serve us ice cream since I was 12. I appreciate him speaking Spanish to my parents when they used to take me there, All the ice cream flavors are great but pistachio and banana walnut will always be my favorites AND they're open late! read more

There was some kind of police activity on the freeway so I wasn't able to drive to Baskin-Robbins. Since I was in San Pablo I decided to purchase a birthday cake from here. The location is a little dingy and unkept, so I had reservations about buying a cake from here. I asked the owner when did she make the cakes that were in the display case and she said the day prior. I was still skeptical but purchased anyway because of the freeway situation and I have to say I was extremely surprised at the quality of the ice cream cake The cake and ice cream weabsolutely delicious and I'm giving them five stars just based on quality, taste and design alone. I taking one star off for the location which needs a deep cleaning and paint job. Other than that more people should frequent this place. read more

Excellent service. Friendly. Ice cream is always yummy. The new manager is great. This should be the best ice cream shop in town!

Very rude, and almost a sense of superiority when talking to them on the phone. I wont do business with them again. learn people skills.

Got an ice cream cake, it was alright. Prices are comparable to ice cream cakes at coldstone, 22.50$ here and $25 at coldstone for a small cake. Wished I had sprung for the extra $3 for the increase in quality. This cake had fine ice cream, but the cake itself was a bit dry. The outer layer was also butter cream icing, which isn't very tasty imo. But they are open late! Til 10 on week nights, which makes this much easier for a midnight birthday cake run read more
