Alpine Guest Lodging - Loft 3

CUTE, COMFY, SIMPLE AND NO COMPLAINTS (Warning: Young adults…read morefrom Central Florida in for a vacation) Our original plans had to change last minute and thankfully AGL accommodated us within a few hours. It was super convenient- we never even had to face any staff. Our keys were waiting for us at the door (Yes, that's pretty trusting but the location is also a bit hidden as we had to walk down a clean alley to get there) SIMPLE ACCOMMODATIONS Huge plus for having local Coffee at the counter as well as a microwave, mini fridge, and wifi. Also a collection of small snacks for the taking. A simple, sheer curtain divided the living room from the bedroom but also added an elegant feel to the minimalist appearance. Everything was clean and perfect for our stay. AND RATHER SPACIOUS It never felt cramped inside. That sheer curtain also works great, space miracles. We also liked how right outside the door was a small, vegetation-filled courtyard. It was a bit too chilly for us to take advantage of but it mentally made us feel very relaxed upon entering.

I booked this place through airbnb and had absolutely no issues until after the stay…read more This place is clean and great for the price. They provide snacks, WiFi and a great binder with information. The location is convient to pretty much everything in Alpine ( a lot within walking distance). However, I was extremely dissapointed and annoyed when I received my review back from the Guest Lofts. We came to Alpine to celebrate me turning 21. Im not a big drinker and therefore wanted to travel for my bday. I think my group and I were stereotyped and therefore received a negative review. Apparently we kept a family and their kids up all night long... First off we were on the outside which meant there was only one loft next to us. The first night we stayed there we had just drove 7 hours and didn't stay up past 10. The next morning when we woke up the only people in the loft next to us were one of the ladies that runs the guest lofts cleaning. We were told In the review we were too loud and didn't follow the rules. There is no possible way we kept anyone up all night long. We never stayed up past 12 and didn't wake up until 9. I didn't even finish a four pack of beer and one of the people in my group was sick. The only "kids" I saw were two preteens throwing knives at stuff in the courtyard. I take it Guest Lofts are not a fan of young adults. I think they could have handled the situation better and maybe talked to us in person or let us know there was supposedly someone staying next to us.

Your own little slice of heaven in downtown Alpine, TX. I loved sitting on the front porch watching…read morethe 15 minute rain showers and enjoying my hot cup of tea sweetened with the local raw honey kept on stock in the kitchen. The locals could not have been more warm and friendly, even the local reptiles are calm and friendly. (See photo) I had a flat tire during my stay and it was minutes before I had a smiling local offering to help me air my tire back up. Having a fresh organic food truck steps away from the Bottle House was the greatest surprise. It's like having your own personal chef on call. I was so pleased to have delicious healthy food options near. The scenery surrounding the Bottle House is nothing short of breathtaking. On my drive into West Texas from Austin I literally gasped at the sight of such beauty once I hit the West Texas mountainous landscape. I was in awe. The beautiful natural landscape is captivating and can be admired while driving into town and from your front porch. Alpine is a treasure. It is a beautiful quick drive to Marfa from the Bottle House. I had planned on making day trips to Marfa several days of my stay but ended up enjoying relaxing and exploring Alpine so much that I had to extend my trip by a day to give myself a chance to see Marfa. I couldn't get enough of how charming this BnB is. Liz has thought of absolutely everything one could need to be made comfortable and feel completely at home. I can't wait to visit Alpine and The Bottle House again next time I'm in need of a peaceful retreat, full of natural beauty and friendly faces.

Summary: We spent a belated honeymoon here in September 2012…read moreand decided to go back at the same time every year for honeymoon repeats! Friendly, family-built, -owned, and -run, this place is perfect for a relaxing, private getaway in nature. The location is fabulous - less than half an hour to the national park, about 10 minutes to the little shops and a convenience store of Terlingua, and 15 to the social center of the area, the Terlingua Ghostown. The buildings haven't been updated since built (in the '80's), and Cabin 1, where we stayed, needs a bit of maintenance, but the bed was comfy, the rooms clean, the towels fluffy, and the pillows downright luxurious. This is perfect for anyone who's more interested in quiet, privacy, and the spectacular nature of the region than in room service. Background/history: Louise and Bobby Ray started buying property in the 1970's and moved to the place in the mid 1980's. It is now 230 acres, and Louise is thrilled to have guests hike around the property and enjoy it. They built everything there - the main building that functions as an office and also the family's main living quarters; a second house for the housekeeper; and Cabin 1 (the only "cabin" that is actually a cabin and not a mobile home). Bobby Ray passed in 2004, and Louise and her daughter Wanda have been keeping up the property ever since. They and Wanda's teen-aged son live on the property. Although everything was clean and neat, and Louise extremely responsive to any requests, it seems that anything more than basic maintenance has gone by the wayside since Bobby Ray's death, but we saw nothing that changed our overall love for the place. (For example, the shower surround in Cabin 1 needs to be replaced, and you can tell that water is running down behind it, but that didn't effect our stay.) Cabins, Amenities, etc.: We stayed in Cabin 1, the only true cabin, with the other 4 (Cabin 3, the only 3-bedroom, was struck by lightning and burned down in early 2012) all single-wide mobile homes. We peeked into one, and it looked very similar to ours, just smaller rooms. Cabin 1 is definitely on the best site (Louise suggested it to us when I told her we were on honeymoon). The view is SPECTACULAR, with views to both east and west. It feels very isolated, though Cabin 2 is actually close, just cut off from view by a big mound of rocks. No one stayed in #2 during our stay, so we had total privacy; not sure how it would be if someone was there. The cabins are stocked with all you need - full kitchens (modern fridge, coffee maker, microwave, stove), dishes, cookware, etc. The only things you need bring are "specialty" items (for us, a sharp knife, garlic press, champagne glasses) and food/drinks. There is even statellite TV! We had absolutely NO cell phone service or Internet in the cabin, but got wifi in the office and dependable cell service 5+ minutes away in Terlingua (and, surprisingly, most places in the national park). Each cabin has a wide porch with chairs and a small table - AMAZING at all times of the day, really! Cabins 1 and 2 are on a high area, with outstanding views. Cabin 3, above both of them (but all separated from view of the others), burned, and Louise has built a large pavilion on the site, which any guests can use. Cabins 4-6 are on a lower level and, although a good distance from each other, are within view of each other.
