I went there during a road trip. If it is chicken cooked in American style you want then they certainly deliver. Personally it is a little fatty for me but hey I eat fried chicken maybe twice a year and they taste great. Very friendly waitress. read more

Crispy, moist, tender fried chicken on a bed of fries. By the time you get to the fries they are wet with heavenly fried chicken grease, making them some of the best ever!! The 30 minute cook time is well worth the wait. Fried prawns are crisp and huge. The bar in the basement is cool and dark--perfect when looking for cover on a hot summer day. This family owned place is keeps locals like me coming back again and again! read more

Great chicken. Best I've found in Montana. It takes a while but it's worth the wait. I've never tried anything but the chicken and fries, and probably never will. read more

The fried chicken is really good! If you're cool with fried upon fried upon fried food this is your place. I think the thing that could elevate Double Front a bit would be to offer some more veggies and fresh sides greens/mashed potatoes ect. I just feel super gross after fried appetizers, fried entrees and fried sides. read more

Bunch of clowns. The food was cold, oily and two peopl got salmonella poisoning. Avoid at alll cost t

The Double Front gets 4 stars from me for being OPEN (after 9pm), for being a family-friendly & kid-friendly place, for freshly prepared food when ordered, for good basic food, for great service, for being a clean restaurant. I don't eat poultry so the menu is very limited for me, thankfully fish & chips are offered as well as pan-fried oysters, and fried prawns. My traveling companion enjoyed the grilled chicken Asian salad with huckleberry vinaigrette. We saw quite clearly that this is NOT a fast-food restaurant. Your expectations need to be re-organized if you expect fresh chicken on the bone to be prepared in less than 30 minutes. If you can't wait the time it takes, it's ok to call ahead to place your order and eat-in. read more

Double Front Cafe - Chicken dinner at Double Front cafe - American Near Me - Missoula, Montana

Some of the best fried chicken you will find in Montana. Consistently great, big portions, very moist & not greasy. Definitely a Missoula favorite since my wife went to college there in Missoula in the 90's. It's kinda of a dive but I think thats what adds to the appeal of the place. read more

It's a once a year stop. You crave it - then you regret it. It's good food, just noticeably hard on the body. A lot of different styles of fried food out there... and this is distinctly different than any I ever had growing up in the South. If you can get into the basement that's the place to be!!! read more

I have been going here since I was very young, now that I'm "old" I make it a point to go to double front. Call your order in ahead of time so it's ready when you get there. It's definitely the best chicken in Missoula! read more

Double Front Cafe - Waiting for my chicken with a big sky brewing summer honey ale! - American Near Me - Missoula, Montana

I grew up in South Georgia and this is the greatest fried chicken I've ever eaten. If you are in Missoula you MUST stop by this joint. For real. You MUST! The wait is worth it. read more

Solid comfort food. Pricing was steep and timing of when food arrived was fairly slow. Be careful not to be starving when coming here. Friendly staff with kind of a stale environment. read more

The best chicken in Missoula. Give yourself 30 minutes since it cooked to order. They do have call ahead. Must see if in Missoula

We stumbled into Double Front during our recent visit to Missoula for a Pearl Jam concert. Two other restaurants turned us away as they either had run out of food or the kitchen was too far behind. How lucky we were - the fried chicken at Double Front was the best I'd ever had. Period. The server was extremely gracious as we were a late arrival and it had been a very busy day. Thank you for a great end to our day! read more

Double Front is a Missoula staple! I recommend it to everyone who wants good fried chicken. The fries are wonderful, the chicken breading is great, and the Mac and cheese wedges and corn nuggets are amazing when slathered in ranch. The best part? The pickle chips with every chicken dinner. It's not health food, but it's healthy for the soul! I've been going there since I was a very little girl, and they'll always have my business. Waitstaff is always friendly. The food sometimes takes a little longer, but it's worth the wait. read more

Maybe we picked a bad evening for the Double Front. We ordered a white and a dark chicken dinner and an order of Fried Mac N Cheese. The Fried Mac N Cheese was very good. The chicken, no, just no. it wasn't cut up, the wing attached to the breast or the leg attached to the thigh, huge pieces from older chickens which results in stringy meat. It had also been brined too long and the dark meat was so salty it couldn't be eaten. we did not complain, we just walked away from the food after paying. You could smell old chicken and grease that wasn't fresh before you walked in. I should have known.. but my curiously bit me in the butt this time. The second star was for the fried Mac. read more

The best chicken and fries in Missoula!! Prices are amazing!!!!!!! I can't wait to try more of the menu

I love Double Front. I actually prefer the appetizers over the chicken. I'm a huge fan of the corn nuggets.

Hated the interior very run down, limited menu felt like everything there was going to be skeezy BUT the cook came out and asked us how we wanted certain things (we were the only ones in there and he might have been the only one working) He was very cool and the food ended up good! much better than expected! The onion rings were good too. read more

I'm new to yelp but I have to say I absolutely loved this place. My husband and I use to come here Years ago and enjoyed it very much. Now, widowed, I still come to get the best chicken in Missoula. The staff is terrific especially Jonathan. Entertaining and happy all of the time. And might I mention, they hold the door for me when I leave. Just a delightful small restaurant that will always have my business. read more

I don't even like fried chicken. Until now. Usually the skin icks me out but this merges with the breading in one crispy coating. The service is just fantastic too. The corn nuggets are yummy. The fries are battered and too greasy for me. Next time I'll get the mushrooms and cole slaw. read more

Some of the best fried chicken you will find even in the South. Consistently great, with not much grease and good sides. Definitely a Missoula favorite! read more

I was driving through missoula and found the double front on yelp. It's an okay place and probably has a funky atmosphere during busy times, but I was there mid-afternoon and except for two other table people and a constant stream of takeout customers it wasn't worth the wait for the chicken .... and you do wait. Everything is cooked from scratch and to order. I probably waited thirty or more minutes for the food, but then it was so hot I had to wait another fifteen or so minutes for it to cool down. I went outside to smoke a cigarette while the legs and thighs cooled and discovered a great shop next door. It sells home brew equipment and ingredients and it sells home indoor plant growing equipment ... this place is very browsable, the guys working there are very friendly, and I give it five stars. Double Door gets just three because the chicken was too frigging hot to eat .... it became a chore, not a pleasure. The French fries were awesomely good, though. read more

The chicken is amazing but the staff are not friendly at all and the wait time is way too long. We came in a group and all met there. The waitress never asked if we wanted our bills separate and just clumped them all together. Then she acted annoyed when we asked her to separate them. I would maybe order chicken to go next time and call an hour before we pick it up. read more

If you're going on a Friday or Saturday evening have a snack at home before you get here (it's busy, and they fry-to-order; it takes a little while). Deal with the smokiness and sit in the bar downstairs. Order a chicken deluxe meal, even if you normally don't eat dark meat (if you're like me, you'll substitute mac and cheese wedges for the fries). Have a cocktail. Forty five minutes later, when the dumbwaiter buzzes with your amazing chicken dinner, you'll be exceedingly happy. Delirious, even. It's that magical. read more

Excellent fried chicken. Best in town. Plus, the Cole slaw in town. The only reason I gave it a 4 star, if you order something other than the lunch special during the lunch rush....you are going to have to wait. Food is always served hot. read more

This place does only one thing and one thing only - CHICKEN. They don't do anything revolutionary to it, just good old fashioned batter fried chicken. It didn't blow me away compared to the appetizers. Just order the appetizer platter and you're all set! read more

The chicken was moist but the coating had zero flavor but it was nice and crispy and the french fries were very good. I doubt we'd go back again. read more

Great food but always 30 min wait even if your the only one here. Best to phone in order and pick it up.

Everything you've read about how good the chicken at this place is true. It's juicy, non oily and best of all, it's well seasoned. The staff is friendly, courteous and attentive to your needs. Please be aware that the chicken is cooked to order which takes about 30 minutes, so plan accordingly. If you're starving when you first walk in, plan on an appetizer. I'll be back whenever I'm in town. read more

We were on a road trip, looking for late lunch and found this place on Yelp. Had to try it ourselves -if you like Fried Chicken it is very Good! Ordered the White meat Chicken plate. Comes with fries-but you can upgrade to Onion Rings or Fried Mushrooms. They tell you that it's gonna take 30 minutes- cause they cook it right then. They have sodas and a full bar. Don't miss this place if your in town! Excellent Fried Chicken. read more

Double Front chicken has been a Missoula tradition since I went to college there in the 80's. While in town for business I went for dinner and was sadly disappointed. Our chicken dinner took 50 minutes to be served. And the chicken was dry and a bit over cooked. It is still a good chicken dinner for Missoula standards. When thinking nation wide, Popeyes is better as is Boston Market. read more

The food was pretty good for fried chicken. Cute restaurant with a sweet downstairs bar.

The fried chicken is really really good. Super moist. They have some really good ranch. The best I have had in a long time. All in all it was a good lunch and the lady that served us was really good! So going back before we leave. read more

Chicken was delicious and the fries were great too. Also ordered Mac n cheese wedges - husband wasn't a fan because it tasted like Kraft Mac n cheese. Me on the other hand likes the taste of cheap box Mac n cheese so I was fine with them. To each their own! read more

Yum. Yum yum yum yum yum. Yum. This place has been around for years and I have never had a bad meal here. Simple food well prepared. I decided to head back while I was in town last weekend and the chicken is still as good as it ever has been. French fries too. read more

That's some good fried chicken and good breading on the fries. What a good guilty pleasure!

They tell you the wait for your chicken is about 30 minutes and it was. However,,,it was very much worth it. The chicken here is lightly coated, crispy, juicy, and very clean tasting. We were very pleased with the clean environment and delicious chicken. They were out of the gizzards, we will definitely be back to give them a try. Kids loved the Mac n cheese wedges and the corn fritters. read more

Hands down the best chicken you will have in a 1,000 mile radius. You have to love a place that will give you a free meal on your birthday right? Service isn't the fastest but then again, great chicken with a truly original recipe and one that makes Colonel Sanders look like Private Pile, can't be rushed. If Jesus Christ made chicken, it would taste just like this. read more

The wait can be long but man the chicken is good! Fresh, hot, and moist. I believe they use a pressure cooker and the chicken is made to order. The sides aren't bad, although I'm more a fan of battered mushrooms than breaded...if they are going to be fried. read more
